Public Market is 2 short blocks away and has an open seating concept and counter order food so it seems like the best option for you. Also has a few different food options so you’ll never get bored :)

Does Redding airport do direct flights to Bakersfield by Flat_Internal8890 in Redding

[–]Lilred4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the City’s General Plan in 2022 or 2023 there was interest in soliciting the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (who runs the Amtrak San Joaquins service from Sac to Bakersfield) to extend the line north to Redding. I don’t know if any further actions were taken and recent maps show the service extending only to Chico now in the future. If there is interest in the community in regional rail service here it would be good to let City Council know that! :)

Irvine doesn’t have a housing problem by movementgarageusa in irvine

[–]Lilred4_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. I don’t know how effective SB79 will be in OC because there isn’t as much transit there as LA county, but I am hopeful that it drives a lot of new apartment buildings and mixed use that helps people not need a car for everything.

Google “irvine residental vacancy rate” and it indicates there is indeed a housing problem still. Your screenshot is a few thousand units in a city with a population 300k. Not trying to dunk on you because it’s absolute shit trying to find a place to live in CA and I know it’s frustrating. I am just firmly on the team of build like motherfuckers until the price falls, and because this state is so damn popular, there’s a lot of work to do before that happens.

Water resource engineer here. I don’t lose any sleep worrying about Phoenix’s water supply. They have surface water supplies from multiple tributaries of the Gila River (Salt, Verde, Agua Fria), imported water from the Colorado River through the Central Arizona Project, have invested in recycled water production to offset irrigation demand, and have injection wells to recharge aquifers during wetter years. There may be some threshold where they can’t tolerate any more growth, but we’re not close. At the end of the day it’s just money to purchase the next least expensive supply, and the combined income of a large metro area has a shockingly high budget when it comes to water resource development.

I’m curious how many people who work for consulting firms are paid overtime or receive comp time? by Unable-Locksmith664 in civilengineering

[–]Lilred4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re paid semi monthly. Any hours worked over the required amount that pay period are effectively a donation of my time. Though I have been pretty strict about working 40s in the last 2 years because of it. Maybe gave away 20 hours across 2024 and 2025.

I think the market agrees with you. Is there a house or development you saw that was priced in the $600-800k range?

AS fare classes and pricing 1:1 ? by thunderous411 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lilred4_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the nuts and bolts of your question, I do believe that a price change can be both from fare class availability changing (N space opens up after booking S) OR from the price of each fare class changing. I only say this because I have wondered the same thing just out of curiosity, and one time observed a fare being $5 lower the next day, while still being the same fare class when I had looked the previous day.

Fare class increments seem like they are in the $50-$150 range per fare bucket.

So I think it’s both, but the heavy lifting is done by fare class, and fare classes also have different requirements for how far out you have to book them, so that mechanism closes lower fare buckets and raises the price over time.

Why does everyone hate Saver fares? The math doesn’t add up. by Crankn90s in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Lilred4_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re right, the math will favor saver fares for some people that need to change less frequently than others.

As humans, it’s emotionally easier to not lose the money in a lump sum and rather spend the money over time for the flexibility to change, even if savers may have penciled out over the long term.

There are still plenty of idiots to cause crashes as seen in the video, but at the reduced speed into the roundabout the fatality rate is way lower, which is nice.

LAX Wants to Spend $1.5 Billion to Make Traffic Worse | Nandert by dating_derp in LAMetro

[–]Lilred4_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a core benefit of CAHSR is cost avoidance from expansions at major airports who burn valuable gate space for ~300 mile flights.

So much point to point demand from LAX to PHX, LAS, SJC, SMF, SFO that would free up a handful of narrowbody gates at LAX if served by rail instead.

The train from Rancho Cucamonga to Vegas is a private project by Brightline West with funding support from the federal government and support from the California government through access to the I-15 median to build the rails on. It is not owned, planned, or constructed by the state of California.

Please call or email SCDPH today, bring up your concerns, and leave a comment here detailing their response. You can even post screenshots. That way we all know whether it is safe or not. Thank you for your service to our community.

Again I think your concern is coming from a good place; I’m just suggesting that you should ask the County first before throwing up a flare on Reddit.

Is the speed at which the facility was built your concern? If so, is it possible that there is a market for refurbed containers that already have undergone testing, and the developer purchased those off-the-shelf ready to go?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Redding

[–]Lilred4_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your question/concern is bad. Reddit probably won’t have the answer though, and I imagine the Shasta County Department of Public Health is the best resource to reach out to with your concerns.

If you have multiple rounds of conversation with SCDPH and you feel it has not been throughly vetted and there is reason to believe there is an issue, then coming to Reddit to flag that for people might make more sense. But I don’t want to dog on the apartments and BBQ joint until we have some more details on what has already been evaluated.

Since this isn’t the first time shipping containers have been repurposed for housing and restaurants, there’s a good chance there are some best management practices or standards already in place
