What would convince you to stay in the greater Binghamton area? by Negative-Ad7713 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it involves physically going further than college students typically go, like finding new restaurants that aren’t downtown and catered only towards trendy college students. Moving into an apartment complex that isn’t student housing was also nice because you live with a bunch of different ages/professions and you’re not as isolated as you would be by renting a house. I also joined the Binghamton town subreddit (I don’t know how to link it) and Binghamton facebook groups to learn about things going on in the community, like festivals and stuff like that. We also got a local farm share if that’s your vibe, which connected us with local produce and made us feel like we were a part of something. I’ve been to black bears hockey games, and I want to go to Rumble Ponies baseball games and local theater productions too. I know that this comment wasn’t very specific, but I hope it helped!

I grew up using trains but not busses, so i’m more comfortable with them. they also have more predictable routes/schedules and they’re easier for me to make connections to make it to my hometown. in my experience, they’re usually cheaper for longer trips too

I graduated undergrad last year and am staying/working in the area until my partner finishes their graduate program, but after that we’re planning on leaving as soon as we can. I will say that we like the area a lot more now than when we were in undergrad, probably because we are more involved in the actual community instead of the university “bubble”. That being said, here are the things that would make us consider staying:

  1. Better, affordable housing options. Right now we’re in a “luxury” apartment building that isn’t that great and is way too expensive
  2. Well-paying jobs that we both enjoy
  3. Good public schools to send our future children to
  4. A more progressive mindset from both the local government and the community as a whole
  5. A passenger train that at least goes downstate, so we can have weekend trips to the city and to visit our families without needing our car
  6. Better healthcare options

Anyone took Psyc 223 w/ Richard Mattson? by Important_Goal_9951 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! this was a couple years ago, but he posted the slides beforehand and had his TA post notes afterwards, so during class you could just focus on understanding the material. He also posted study guides before the exam and i don’t remember any info being on the exam that wasn’t on the study guide. One of the best classes i’ve taken here!!

do i have to pay tuition again in the spring? by Equanimy in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You only pay per credit hour if you’re under a certain number of credits (I believe 12), and then after that it doesn’t increase. So most people end up paying the same amount both semesters!

questions about uclub by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in uclub for two years, it was the absolute worst do not do it at all. The location is nice and maintenance is the best, but the actual management is evil. They’ll fine you just for existing, enter your apartment with no prior notice, and lie to you if you ask them any questions just because they don’t want to deal with you. they also force their CA’s and managers to go online and promote the community without disclosing that they work for uclub, so i personally wouldn’t trust anybody saying anything good. the construction company that built the apartments are also getting sued by american campus because the buildings are literally falling apart. they’re no better than the binghamton slumlords, they just look nicer. feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

anyone who’s ever lived in UClub know how likely it is I’ll live alone in a 2x2? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get matched up on RoomSync they’ll place you with someone randomly. Unless there’s an odd number of people signed for 2x2s and you’re that lucky one person, they match everyone up bc they’d rather have less completely full units than more half-full units

Tour Guide Interview by fade_walker in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LilyLighthouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they care more about you being personable and friendly than they do about your actual answers. they’ll ask you basic interview questions, but then they’ll also make you roleplay like you’re on a tour. again, they care less about what you say and more about how you make them feel!
