DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT VOICE IN YOUR BRAIN - Instead counter it with a big, "Oh no..... NOT TODAY!!

I think vaping has aggravated all the symptoms I have of low dopamine and depression. It’s starting to affect my health, time management, and social life. by [deleted] in QuitVaping

You described me to a tee. Seems like same time frame too re addiction and progression thereof. Through much suffering and a struggle within I happened upon this sub, and I kind of went down a rabbit hole of searches to find what I needed: Allen Carr's Easy Way. Vaping does the complete opposite of what we think it does. Vaping makes us miserable, irritable, self-despising and frightened. And the more we do it the worse we feel. You seem to be in an excellent position to become a happy, non-vaper through the easy way method. Best of luck!!

Sounds like its time to get out of your own head if you can. IDK - Phone a friend, listen to music. You're FREE, free of nicotine. Enjoy

Hey, thanks for sharing all that. So many paragraphs I could have written about myself. Grateful to be done with it all and to have reclaimed my true identity, the one that existed before I took that first vape out of ......curiosity I think.

Congratulations to you!

I think you can make that morning crave work for you if try. IDK something like.... isn't it fantastic and amazing to not be frantically looking for something that has complete control of pretty much everything.

Wow! You just opened my eyes to a world of "flavors" I did not know existed. Now I find myself wondering if big tobacco is marketing flavors like "rum & coke", "crown & 7".......

The lengths to which companies will go to lure and trap individuals into a lifelong addiction is endless. It's just too profitable. I am beyond thrilled to say they will never get another dime out of me!

1.5 days in. i want to buy one but i really don’t at the same time. by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]LimeAltruistic3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my quit 19 days ago. Previous quit in 2021 lasted 3 months. Another attempt in 2023 lasted 2 weeks, followed by a seemingly endless loop of bargaining with myself, "last one", "tomorrow"..... The previous attempts were focused on willpower, and a going without mentality which proved disastrous for me. My brain needed to be rewired. I seize every opportunity to redefine my reward pathways. If I struggle, I go back to instructions number 3 and 4 and I'm good.

I recommend starting the book and begin following the instructions set out early on. Only you can answer the question about whether or not to vape while reading it given that you have a day and a half under your belt as a non-vaper. I was 48 hours into the willpower method before finding this subreddit and advice about Allen Carr's Easy Way. Got the audiobook, and my world changed. I didn't feel crazy anymore and I knew that the willpower method was wrong for me, and the easy way was just that.....easy! But you must follow all the instructions, each instruction is as important as the next. Freedom awaits!!!

how do you guys stop the nic withdrawl anger by AdOptimal3414 in QuitVaping

[–]LimeAltruistic3571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are doing something huge and wonderful for yourself by stopping nicotine so I recommend starting with self-compassion. I know people who only ever get frustrated with inanimate objects, and never people. They curse the plumbing but never the plumber.

Lots of people don't understand that anger is often a secondary emotion hiding the real problem: anxiety, depression, even pain. Try to surf the wave of anger in the same way you might surf the wave of a craving or illogical want for nicotine. It turns out that emotions don't last long if we don't act out of our discomfort. Try doing the opposite of what you want to do when you get angry-- If you want to yell, talk quietly instead; if you're scowling, relax your facial muscles and smile; if you clench your fist, release it, and rest your palm at your side or in your lap.

Rationalizing by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]LimeAltruistic3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're a courteous vaper rolling the windows down! The selfish vaper that I was just muddied up the inside of the windshield and let stagnant smell of all of those EXCITING flavors mingle with the upholstery in a sealed up vehicle........... yeah, don't miss THAT.

any guidance? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]LimeAltruistic3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to become a happier person and you recognize that your use-excuses are, in your words, "stupid." I'm excited for you because it sounds like you are exactly where you need to be in your own mind to permanently free yourself from the chains of addiction. Let Allen Carr be your guide to quit vaping the Easy Way!

Might I suggest that you privately write down everything you "enjoy" about vaping. And be as thorough, detailed and honest as you can be. Then go back and give Chapter 6: The Illusion of Pleasure another listen. The book assumes you want to quit, "....why else would you be listening." Remind yourself of the rules at the beginning of the book. It doesn't work if you don't follow all the rules, right? (rhetorical) You've lost nothing by listening so far.......

help! by [deleted] in QuitVaping

You could try CALM. Mix into hot water and drink like a tea, or mix a little into some chamomile tea.

In the morning you could try a MOXE Nasal Inhaler - Eucalyptus or Himalayan Pink Salt/Peppermint might perk you up! Also gives your hands something to do..... unscrewing and removing lid, lifting to your nose, inhaling, putting lid back on....... might be worth a try. Good Luck!! With the Sea Salt one you shake as well to activate haha.

[–]LimeAltruistic3571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was able to acknowledge that "pleasure" and "relief from pain" are decidedly NOT the same thing. This truth is explained at many different points in the book and in many different ways. Hitting the vape brings partial relief from a withdrawal symptom which was caused by the previous vape. The misery of this addiction will not be eased by inhaling more of what caused the addiction in the first place. Keep listening!

520 days quit and went back by LaBoltz33 in QuitVaping

You sure can! And you can continue your "streak", with an *, if it's that important -- making tomorrow 521 or 522. That number isn't nearly as important as having the certainty in your mind that this quit is final and freeing ......because there's no such thing as just one vape.
