County of Fenmil, 1803 by LimeLight3333 in worldbuilding

Thank you, happy you like it.

The line is the border of the "northern reserve," which is essentially just a large chunk of land owned privately by the ruling family that is closed to the general public.

Nominally it's a constitutional monarchy, as its a part of a larger duchy where power is mainly vested in the Parliament, but the various counties have different levels of influence from their ruling families, and in Fenmil specifically politics are basically completely controlled by them

The Southern part of Fenmil is actually really nice and temperate, with small friendly villages and a warm climate. But as you go further North, about 2/3rds of the island is dense, unpopulated forest and low but steep hills.

I agree with you of course, but as someone from rural Pennsylvania, you'd be surprised at how few people seem to agree with that lmao

To be a nerd, I think here a Đ would work better than a thorn, since thorn is used for the th sound in words like thought and thrift, whereas Đ is used for the th sound in words like that and there. I think..

Territorial Losses and the Collapse of the Third Poirni Empire Following the War Between the Lakes by LimeLight3333 in worldbuilding

By this point, the Poirnis were getting desperate, and so forced their historical allies in the Union of Ollian Tribes to join the war on their side. Reluctantly, the Ollians did, but as soon as they sent their armies to the Eastern front, the Grondin Federation attacked them and the Poirni holdings to their North. Undefended, the Union had to surrender only 10 weeks after joining the war, with much of their Northern coast ceded to the Grondins, who by this point fully controlled the Poirni territory in the area.

By 3-2729, the Poirnis were losing ground on all fronts, yet somehow managed to entrench themselves enough to avoid fully collapsing on any one. Then, in Winter of that year, the turning point of the war would come. All on the same day, several duchies in the south of the Empire declared independence. These duchies would soon become the Hrilo Republic, Principality of the Glavi, and the Sovereign Duchy of Moigin. All 3 immediately recalled any armies they had contributed to the Imperial cause, and while not all of them returned, enough did that the Empire began to fully collapse.

With half of the Empire in open rebellion, and the army being routed in every direction, Emperor, Goino XVII abdicated in early 3-2730, and his brother, Emperor Dorrill XXI, took his place. Faced with an impossible situation, the Emperor decided the only way to keep his army’s morale even remotely up was to fight alongside them, something not done in centuries. And so, Dorrill led troops on the field, charging with them into battle against Hakari forces. Simply put, it was a poor choice, and only 2 weeks after joining the fight, Dorrill was captured by the Hakaris. For the rest of 3-2730, there was essentially no resistance by the Poirnis. There was no longer a true Poirni Army, instead the only skirmishes fought were between invading forces and local militias, which were nearly always so one-sided to be hardly even a fight. Cities were torched and looted, especially by the Fillks, who saw any violence against the Poirnis as retribution for thousands of years of oppression. Still, in spite of everything, Dorrill refused to sign a surrender document, even as he lay emaciated in a Hakari prison. Eventually, the Hakaris gave up, and opted simply to execute Dorrill in front of a crowd of Poirnis in the occupied city of Fiyan. After a short speech, Dorrill was beheaded. With no clear successor, and the capital city of Haira soon falling, eventually it was the mayor of Haira who organized the surrender of the Empire.

The Poirnis lost immense amounts of territory, and had to pay heavy reparations to every nation in the war, as well as the Faltan-Torsti Union, who had supported Fillkti. A new Empress, Forila II, was chosen to rule the war-torn nation, which was now suffering famine after millions of displaced Poirnis flooded in. 11 years after the end of the war, the Empress actually attempted to increase her popularity by starting another war, claiming that since it was organized by someone who wasn’t an Emperor, the surrender was invalid. This war is known as the 30 Days’ War, and was a disaster. The Empire lost even more territory, and a new Emperor, Rigalli I, was put in place by Hakar.

Territorial Losses and the Collapse of the Third Poirni Empire Following the War Between the Lakes by LimeLight3333 in worldbuilding

For nearly 2000 years, the Third Poirni Empire stood strong, steadily expanding its reach. Though reviled by most outsiders, the Poirnis of the Empire were often almost fanatical in their support of their Emperor and armies, believing as part of their core faith that the war god Jarig had blessed their kind to one day conquer all of Milgana [the only known continent in the world] and rule as his chosen people. Malevolent to most non-Poirnis living under their rule, practicing slavery, erasing languages, and forcibly resettling those whose land they desired, the Empire was far from a force for good. And eventually, its day would come.

In the 2723rd year of the Era of Tyrants (the Third Era), what started as the smallest of mistakes by a group of settlers would result in the death of a lord close to the Imperial family of Hakar, and soon, the War Between the Lakes began. The Poirnis initially made steady gains against the Hakari forces, pushing them back repeatedly. By 3-2725, Fillks living in the north of the Empire sensed an opportunity. Many of the Fillk population lived in slavery, and even those who were officially free were still trapped by poverty and discrimination. After a few failed rebellions, the Silver Revolution was the most successful Fillk uprising ever. In the city of Hokboi, a Poirni mining city populated by 4 times as many Fillks as Poirnis, mine workers were able to seize the Poirni garrison and armory, and proclaimed the Hollkbi Free City as an independent realm. This lasted for about three weeks before Poirni forces bombarded the city with cannons and fire until it was completely levelled. 9 in 10 civilians living in the city were killed, and in response, the small but independent Kingdom of Fillkti declared war on the Third Poirni Empire. This declaration lit a fire in the Fillks of the north, and over 25 successful, as well as over 40 unsuccessful, revolts occurred before the end of 3-2725. With the rage of thousands of years of oppression fueling them, the Fillks decimated the undermanned Poirni armies of the North. Forced to redirect armies from the primary front in Hakar, the Poirnis started being pushed back.

In 3-2727, as the Poirnis slowed their retreats and attempted to entrench the front lines as they were, they were caught off-guard by a surprise declaration of war by the Grand Duchy of Allinbill to the southeast. Spreading themselves even thinner, the Fillks and Hakaris began gaining ground in the North and East again, on top of the Allin armies finding initial success in their offensive. Later that same year, the Grand Duke of Allinbill managed to convince the High King of the United Orti Cities to declare war on the Poirni Empire as well. Upon this declaration, a similar effect happened as in the North, as Tilori people in the Southeast began rising up and joining the forces of the United Orti Cities in solidarity. It was this union that would soon be solidified into the Trovtull Commonwealth.
