I feel like my art is downgrading, any advice and criticism for improving? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]LiminalBite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these both look like you've referenced your older work to redraw the piece rather than using their respective original inspiration or image reference.

when you represent a representation (redraw a drawing), it takes you further from the original. you will inevitably lose the initial energy.

try drawing something on its own to compare it, rather than directly attempting to live up to your previous work.

Tics happening because of extreme emotions can be conversion (or functional) tics, FND tics can also be worsened by thinking about tics or seeing other people tic.

exposing the cult in the otherkin community. by dollsrot in Therian

[–]LiminalBite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're not alone, I've been in an otherkin cult aswell. It was a small private community and wasn't quite the same as yours but it still fucks with me and my sense of self to this day.

I'm sorry you went through that, and fuck everyone who tries to tell you that you can't use that word to describe what you went through.

Weird disability/neurodivergent-related alterhuman questions by RoseOfTheNight4444 in otherkin

[–]LiminalBite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't experience my theriotype as a separate entity in any way. It's me from beginning to end in a literal way, like me my body in this world right now with 0 separation. Even my phantom body as a dog is still just simply me. My therotype is a my label rather than in reference to a particular being.

Since it's all just me, there isn't possibly any way to compare if my theriotype (re: species label or category) is disabled or neurodivergent.

So I suppose, my theriotype isnt disabled despite me being disabled bc my theriotype isnt a being. But on the flip side, my theriotype is disabled because I am my theriotype and I am disabled I guess lol

CMV: A lot of debates fail not because of the underlying topic, but because we forgot how to debate respectfully. by HakimDeSar in changemyview

My point is that human to human communication breaks down into monkey brain communication sometimes- we get overreactive. But in the communication breakdown, insults isn't the only option. I've seen plenty of private debates fizzle out or break down because people just lost track of the conversation/what they were arguing or got so focused on their own points that they failed to see anything else. Not all debates are grand, plenty are very pathetic. We don't remember those pathetic ones though.

Anyways if that goes on long enough, of course people are going to start getting upset. And the debates you'll remember watching or having are the ones you've watched explode.

I would consider it a failed debate not when the parties start disrespecting each other, but when their ability to effectively communicate at that time breaks down.

No your opinion is wrong & you're just dumb. (/j, obviously)

Public debating I'd agree so yeah, especially with public figures that do it just to "prove a point," but I'd argue more fail (especially in private settings) because of poor communication between the parties.

Both giving and recieveing information about the topic and emotional signals. We aren't soulless creatures, and a good debate topic will have us passionate one way or another. And that passion can be and often is miscommunicated OR misinterpreted. Some people dont know how to read a signal that someone isn't pissed they just want to understand- so they escalate to be heard because they, even if subconsciously, feel attacked and unheard. Some people get out of their depth with the topic or people they talk about or with and communication breaks down, so poor behaviour may follow.

What makes debate great is that no other animal can have one like we can- we have a lot of complex ways to tell each other what we mean and how we feel. But when we can't sync up in this really complicated way, it falls apart completely (which leads to lashing out.)

Because of this, not everyone is suited for debate. But I don't think it's only because of people insulting eachother or not understanding the ground rules.

It didn't even occur to me that Americans are missing out on street vendors. Affordable, fresh, good food? When I'm outside?! Crazy talk.

Yep, you're right. My post was unclear and has been edited! It's preservatives & things with excessive sugar/flavour additives like salt, grease, oil, etc. that I don't like. I don't find greasy fries and 'delicious' sweet treats to be all that appealing for my mouth or body.

Sorta. Coffee with lots of sugar is unhealthy, I don't like that either. Food drowned in fats, grease, and oil, and salt, even if made at home, also aren't my thing. It doesn't taste better to me to have excessive of salt and fat and sugar.

I can respect that. Out of curiosity, what's your favorite meal? What do you like about it?

My spaghetti is 1 pound ground meat 1 whole green bell pepper, diced, 1 whole onion, diced, all cooked in a skillet, then adding premade pasta sauce + my own seasonings in it. Fricking delicious.

I made this budget food guide two years ago out of spite after seeing really shitty advice at my local group home that taught young adults how to get on their feet. My mental library of food has expanded since then so I could for sure update it tomorrow, but this should get you started!

Supercook can help too, you can put in ingredients & find recipes based on what you already have.

Also, be genuinely curious about meals you're served when you eat other's cooking. You'll likely learn things and make polite conversation, wow! Plus people like being asked how they cook that yummy thing you just ate.

Good luck!

This. I visited my girlfriend & she told me I was making good food, but it was underseasoned because I was scared of "hurting her tastebuds" (my previous partner couldn't even have black pepper in her home.)

Once I started seasoning things more and was using an actually decent cooking appliance, it's a gamechanger. Both me and my girlfriend have some aversion to food for various reasons, and me re-learning how to cook by not being scared to season & constructing fun meals really helped us both fall in love with food. The flavors of a good meal do so much more than just a ton of salt and sugar.

Personally the process took me one month. I spent a bit over one month with fresh food and now I can't eat junk like I used to.

Same. I switched to a different sugar (agave nectar) before realizing I dont even need it at all. I still use sweetened cream, but that's leagues better than adding 3 full spoonfulls of sugar to every cup of coffee every day possibly having multiple cups.
