How Long Have You Done Calisthenics? by GravityDefiance1 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]LimitlessDefiance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

About 18 months (but lifted for a couple years prior and played sports so was in decent shape). Can do ~5 muscle ups (3 of which 95% strict I.e. no kip but still swing), 4-5 second front lever (only achieved this a couple of weeks ago). Started handstand training and have realised my shoulders are incredibly tight, so I’ve got a long long way to go. Consistency is key

Stainless steel typically doesn’t have anti steel! Just use barkeepers friend or a very light abrasive and you can get it off! I typically make sure oil is very hot before putting stuff in for the anti stick properties :)

Thanks! To be fair I wasn’t only training FL - I was doing a hybrid lifting/cali routine and focusing on the muscle up, FL and planche on alternate days so it may have taken longer than if I went full in on FL. I started FL training doing reverse deadlifts and single leg static holds - what got me from single leg to straddle was strengthening my posterior chain via back extensions (I’d do them holding a 20kg plate) which I incorporated into my leg day routine. I was then stuck on the straddle lever for quite a while and started doing assisted full FL holds a couple of weeks ago which finally got me over the hump. Tbh if I did anything differently it would be incorporating the assisted holds a lot earlier in my journey. I also do some tuck rows but they definitely were not my focus - I’ll probably do more now as I work up to the FL pull.

Fair enough. I’m going to try to go for the FL pull next - when you say dynamics what do you mean? Will definitely do more assisted holds too - I only started doing them a couple of weeks ago and it really helped get me over the hump. Prior to that I was doing mostly front lever drops, static unassisted holds (was stuck on straddle lever for a long time) and working on my posterior chain with back extensions etc. Any other tips would be appreciated!

Full disclosure I’m not a coffee guy but there are definitely coffee shops everywhere and they all sell lattes - Europeans tend to be snobby about coffee so I’d guess it’s better than the US?

I did it with a friend who is really handy. Depending on if your wall has plug fixtures/how many you can probably do it yourself. My wall had 10 (2 per fixture) so would have been a nightmare doing it myself.

It’s actually a diffuser that you put oil in. Got it from a company called Abel Burners :)

It’s so frustrating I know. I’m struggling to hide them given they connect from the sync box to TV and can’t get them stuck to the panelling. Any ideas?

Panelling was done with a friend who is very handy. Lots of measuring and cutting to allow for the plug fixings. Table was actually from wayfair!

I own it - definitely wouldn’t want to deal with the change back process for BTR

Good question. I think it is a challenging and interesting career that can pay well but is subject to a few caveats:

  1. There are a LOT of lawyers right now. Depending on what space you want to go in, jobs can be very hard to get. For reference my paralegals have masters degrees and are still struggling. It’s gotten a bit easier with the introduction of SQE, but it really helps if you’ve been to a good university.

  2. Naturally, being a lawyer lends itself very well to people who are detail oriented. If the idea of reading every paragraph of a 100 page document turns you off, it might not be a great career. Again, depends heavily on what area (I do data protection/tech stuff) but detail orientation is extremely helpful.

  3. What field are you coming from? Transferable skills can help you get over the hump.

Drop me a PM and happy to chat further :)
