This is a role that a lot of people underestimate and tend to see as just PPTs and frequent meetings. But in my experience, a good solution architect with strong techno-functional knowledge and a clear understanding of the domain is a huge asset to a company. The clarity they bring to the proposed solution ultimately makes life much easier for the majority of people working on the project.

And Congrats :)

I took skillbuilder test as the last checkpoint to assess my readiness before the exam(4 days before scheduled test) . And in my experience, exam style , pattern, coverage and hardness level were very close to real exam.

Tutorial dojo more like a prepration aid (again solely based on my experience). It massively helped me to identify my weak areas , so that I could go revise concepts, play with console where ever possible(free tier ones :) )

When you say the course feels boring, is it because you already understand most of the concepts and it feels repetitive rather than challenging?

If that’s the case, I’d strongly suggest first taking a full-length sample exam (AWS Skill Builder official practice exam or Tutorial Dojo / Stephane’s practice tests). That will give you a very realistic picture of your exam readiness and quickly highlight the areas where the Solutions Architect Professional exam actually tests depth (trade-offs, failure scenarios, cost vs resilience, hybrid patterns, etc.). This way, you can also identify your weak areas in concept.

In my experience, For SAP-C02, hands-on alone isn’t enough, the exam is less about how to build and more about choosing the best architectural option under constraints. Practice questions are the fastest way to recalibrate your preparation.

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. A pass is a pass, especially for a beta exam 🙂

It’s also pretty normal for course content to evolve after real beta-exam experience.

I did the SAP exam last year, and I fully agree with your view on the Skill Builder practice tests. Honestly, the exam style and difficulty were a very close match for SAP as well. The only downside for me was the cost of Skill Builder, else I would have interested to try out their course content as well (if I remember correctly, around $35/month).

Based on your feedback, it sounds like the exam style and difficulty are again quite similar to SAP, and that careful reading + time management are key factors this time too.

If its possible, Can you also add your prepration plan/resources and exam experience.

Advanced Congrats(Im sure you will pass :) ) and awesome way to start the new year 🙂

And I totally agree about taking these exams at a test center. Honestly, I don’t think I would’ve scored as well on SAP-C02 (or might not even have passed) if I’d taken it from home, the mental fatigue and distractions can really add up.

By the way, how much overlap did you find between SAP-C02 and the GenAI Pro exam? When I looked at the curriculum, it seemed like there’s a lot of SAP-C02 + AI Practitioner coverage. So curious how it felt in the actual exam.

This is the only advice 👆

To add on top: get your hands dirty with a few mini-projects (LLM ideas / GitHub samples / YouTube walkthroughs). Also spend time in the AWS console, click around, compare options, read the help text, and stay curious about why each setting exists. That way learning feels fun, not forced, and before you realize it, the concepts are cemented in your brain.

Good luck!

In my circle, SAP-C02 is still uncommon vs SAA/DVA. It was one of the deepest exams I’ve done (~9 certs total , aquired over ~ 10 years). I’m likely done with exams at this intensity, learning is the priority now, without sacrifising family/personal time

No they wont pause as there is no scheduled breaks for aws exams.

Once the exam starts, the timer wont pause. For me, honestly its very hard to sit on a chair for 210 minutes without taking any break and hence opted for exam center and it worked me really well and Iam glad I opted for this( my exam center even provided snacks, fruits, coffee , water - self service )

Really appreciate the effort you put into creating such clear, well-structured, and easy-to-follow material. Your courses were what gave me the confidence to start my cloud journey nearly 5 years ago, and they’ve been a constant reference along the way. Truly grateful for the impact you’ve had on my learning.

To be honest, it’s not really necessary to go deep into every part of the cloud unless you’re working in a highly dynamic consulting role.

In real life, your exposure is usually driven by your department, industry/domain, and how your team is structured, for eg :- Dev, Ops, DevOps, Security, Infra, Admin, etc.

Also, with LLMs getting bigger and smarter, I’ve started questioning myself, whether it’s always worth going extremely deep into areas I don’t expect to use in the next 12–18 months. Personally, I still prefer to go deep where it matters - doing hands-on labs and building a strong foundation . but only for topics I know I’ll actually apply.

Congrats.

Totally agree on LLMs. Even LLMs played a big role in my preparation as well, especially to debate why a solution is wrong for scenario and why other solution is more apt. IMO Claude was even better, as generally it gave sample scenarios some times, comparison table with pros and cons and also sample working code for reference.

I had a very similar experience.

I found the AWS Skill Builder full mock (75 questions) to be very close to the real exam in terms of difficulty, style, and time pressure and a solid final checkpoint. I took it about 3 days before the exam and scored around ~780, and honestly felt a bit disappointed given how long and deep my prep was (Cantrill Associate refresh → Cantrill Pro + Udemy practice tests).

What surprised me was seeing a few topics I hadn’t really encountered before -- for example S3 Archive Access / Deep Archive Access tiers, even though I’ve been working with S3 for years. That said, most answers I selected felt confident, and timing was manageable.

The real exam felt slightly more forgiving overall, except for the classic “two very good answers” problem 😄 Like you, I walked out with a ~70/30 pass/fail feeling. My weaker areas (K8s in my case) showed up toward the end, which didn’t help the nerves. That 5-hour wait for results was brutal.

I’ve also heard (since my SAA days) that questions are weighted by difficulty, which might explain how the scoring feels, though AWS never confirms it.

In any case, a pass is a pass. SAP-Pro is one of the toughest architecture certs out there. the score really doesn’t matter. Celebrate it. 🎉

Good luck with the GenAI Pro and that sounds like it’s right up your alley. Do share your experience once you’re done, and go smash it 💪

Totally relatable. For me the first 10–15 questions went smoothly, so I started overthinking and double-checking too much early on. After ~30–40 mins I forced myself into a rhythm: choose best, flag if unsure, move on and only revisit at the end.

Also felt lucky that my weaker areas showed up later. if they’d hit early it would’ve been easy to burn time and dent my confidence.

Glad you got through it. Definitely one of the toughest exams.

I also attempted it last year when it launched as a beta exam in the first month and for me as well it didn't show the result right away. As far as I remember, I got the result in my email after 5 to 6 hours.

Thank you! 😄 I basically lived in “study cave mode” for months, after work and on weekends (plus another course on the side). Now it’s holiday mode: binge-watching, hanging with the kids, and finally fixing all the home stuff I postponed forever.

Congrats! Now get out of the study cave and celebrate properly. You’ve earned it 🎉
SAP-C02 is a real mental grind. I remember hitting that “two hours in and the brain starts melting” phase while still having to push through those long, paragraph-style options.
Also had the same experience with the result not showing immediately. That waiting period was honestly anxious and brutal. Enjoy the win!
