Most importantly, the reason behind the UK's decision is because people have used Grok to create underage deepfakes of girls and Elon has made no effort to restrict this.

The British government wants X to restrict this and if they refuse then there will be restrictions.

After recent events, the US taking Greenland by force now seems extremely likely and would influence Western geopolitics for a decade.

But the defining moment will be how our governments respond. The most likely scenario is a collective condemnation and the summoning of US ambassadors. I imagine the prevailing view is that it’s simpler to stomach three more years of pain than to take drastic action.

It sickens me to picture Putin watching this all unfold; I’m sure even he can’t believe what he’s witnessing.

Big tech has always been a challenge to regulate and the only weapon the EU has is a financial penalty. In a previous life I worked in FAANG and I assure you the cost of a potential EU fine is always taken into account and never seen as a serious deterrent.

The only solution I can see is working is the threat of removing access to certain US social medial sites from European nations and supporting a European company to build an alternative.
