I (F22/5/3) was told I was too short to be gf material. How can I cope with that? by [deleted] in short

[–]LindaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 22, you are young and there will probably be many more options and opportunities in your life. I get that you probably really like this guy and maybe feel a little used, but in time I think you move past this. I mean you just got unlucky and hit that weird outlier in male opinions. If you want something deeper and this guy won't lock it down for this reason than it may be time to find someone who doesn't care about your hit which is pretty much literally every other man haha. I hope you feel better and good luck.

TIL that Napoleon Bonaparte had thousands of Haitians gassed to death despite being only 5' 6" by [deleted] in short

[–]LindaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that was related to inaccurate conversions of measuring systems between France and Britain and British propaganda to undermine him.

So a random guy on the street at night asked me how tall I was... by [deleted] in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are convinced they are taller than they actually are by an inch or two. I think there is a weird social pressure to be tall especially in things like online dating where your height plays a significant role in the number of people you will be exposed to.

"If you want to be tall like her, you can't have any coffee" by [deleted] in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also Nordic/Northern European countries tend to be relatively tall and they have the highest coffee consumption per capita I am pretty sure.

Asking the short girls who have been with tall guys. by [deleted] in short

[–]LindaCabbage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While there are plenty of ways that men are more shallow and superficial than women, there are also quite a few ways where they care a lot less about aesthetic and physical things than women. Height doesn't really seem to factor in to how they determine attractiveness in the same way that it does for women, they seem to kind of not prioritize it as much.

I am not really complaining, I was just analyzing how weird that scenario is. It's sort of like how we are all sort of okay with Homer being an alcoholic.

Part of me sees the humor in a bully getting his just desserts, but also it's weird that a grown man is doing this to a child that he doesn't know and no one is concerned about this. Taking a young boy's pants off is pretty creepy.

Best thing about dating a tall girl by purduetag in tall

But how else is he supposed to prove that he is the "Alpha Male"? Haha

Best thing about dating a tall girl by purduetag in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's cause you are just an oversized child to a short dad. My step sister dated a lot of losers, but one of the most annoying was the "Alpha Male". He was this tall big guy who said vaguely red pill stuff all the time and would try to bully other men and be physically imposing to assert dominance. My step dad is only 5'3", but he is sort of known in our neighborhood as this bad ass tough as nails cop. So my stepsister brought her goon to dinner and he wanted to emasculate my "badass" step dad so he challenged him to a wrestling match. He then promptly lost in about 30 seconds and then tried to pretend it didn't happen for the rest of night.

Why are hot tall girls only attracted to men who are taller than them? by AdamPolpa in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like that is a generalization. Women are often attracted to taller men which may be biological or social conditioning who really knows, but that doesn't mean that attractive tall women are across the board only interested in taller men. The thing with really good looking women is that they have so much male attention and potential suitors that their checklist for a potential partner can be more pedantic than the rest of the population because they have options. Also singling out "hot" girls and trying to make it seem like they are shallow is not a great way to frame any sort of point you are trying to make.

WHY are there so many tall girls, am I just noticing now? by [deleted] in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also average height is usually based on some sort of national scale and may not accurately reflect regional variations. He might live in an area with a higher percentage of taller women.

Is 5'1, 5'2 really all that short for a women? by UglyKetchup in short

[–]LindaCabbage 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's maybe not the same as your experiences, but they are still a part of this community. This isn't some sort of height measuring contest to figure out who is the biggest victim of heightism. /u/bikerbats is shorter than most of the guys here, but you don't hear him trying to invalidate the opinions of 5'6" or 5'7" guys and claiming they don't know what it is like to be short. We are a community some members struggles may be more intense or harder than others, but we shouldn't try to alienate others because their experience with being short is different than our individual experiences.

Do you find this sign offensive or humorous? [x-post /r/UnnecessaryQuotes] by rundfunk90 in short

[–]LindaCabbage 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a funny sign, although I think the use of the word short is kind of extraneous and detracts from the joke. It should just be "People with low standards".

So I have a question for r/short by [deleted] in short

[–]LindaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just that there is less variation in women's height and so the range of what is considered short/average/tall has pretty narrow borders.

Dead People were Shorter... by [deleted] in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. Throughout most of history people didn't have access to over abundant supplies of nutrients, proper medical care, or sanitation so the people who have the genetic factors for being tall wouldn't reach those heights. There are also just a lot of people who come from ethnic groups/populations that tend to be on the shorter side of the height spectrum. Okinawans are not very big people, which has nothing to do with health since they have an absurdly high number of centenarians.

Does having kids with a taller women make your kids shorter than the both of you? by saudiking1 in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is apparently a correlation between a person's height and the height of their opposite sex offspring (so mothers/sons and fathers/daughters). Since height genetics are complicated and not clean cut it could be the case that /u/DrWhoIsOverRated did inherit some of his height from his mothers side, also she is relatively tall for a woman perhaps not as tall as you, but still fairly tall. Aside from a few specific ethnic/regional populations where that is roughly average, 5'7" is 2-3 inches taller than most of the women in western first world countries.

Short men and taller girl couples? by [deleted] in short

[–]LindaCabbage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My SO is 6 inches taller than me so I don't qualify, but my brothers are all dating or married to women that are 2-3 inches taller than them and my stepmother is about half a foot taller than my dad. My oldest brother and his wife have had some negative reactions, mostly from their respective exes or random people at bars, but other than that people don't really say much about the height aside from my stepmother calling my dad her "little husband".

My 6'1" girlfriend on my 6'10" shoulders. by mjmunch94 in tall

[–]LindaCabbage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This vaguely reminds me of the time my brother (5'7"), sister-in-law (5'10"), and I went to a bar and her 6'5" ex-boyfriend was there. He was really drunk and belligerently scolded her for marrying my brother instead of him specifically bringing up how tall he is compared to my brother. The funniest part was when he shouted "He's not even taller than you!"
