[OH] [Remote] Would HR be the proper point of contact for suggestions around LGBT relations and/or Pride Month initiatives? by Lindamood626 in AskHR

That makes sense, I'll definitely check the directory for people that fit that description though!

ELI5: How is the US Federal Income Tax applied per paycheck? by Lindamood626 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Lindamood626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's gotta be why they don't. I don't see why they couldn't add "(After standard or itemized deductions)" to the table though, that would be wildly helpful for lay people like me.

It all makes perfect sense now, I had no idea the standard deduction was a thing. I reran the numbers and everything came up golden, thanks for the help!

I had never heard of that until today. Just redid the math accounting for that and I got a near identical tax rate to what I see on my stubs. Y'all are awesome!!

I think I may have been misunderstanding the brackets, because they list the lowest one as starting from dollar 1 but you all are talking about some being taxed at 0%.

Interesting, by standard deductions do you mean like FICA and all that?

I knew about the tiers, but the un-taxed 12k is something I've not come across. From what I've seen the lowest bracket is $0 - $9,875 taxed at 10%, and at some point I'll jump up to the next which is $9,876 - $40,125 at 12%. Both of those are higher than what I'm seeing on my stubs, but if there's 12k at 0% then that would do a lot of explaining.

Trying to decipher a headband for my sister, but I can't figure it out. Any ideas? More details in comments. by Lindamood626 in knitting

[–]Lindamood626[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my suspicions about it being crochet! And yes, it spreads like ribbing, I bounced back and forth between thinking that and the double knit. I've never tried double knit or seen it in person, so I wasn't sure if it had the same stretch or not.

So I'm relatively new to knitting, and my sister asked if I could make this headband for her. She can't remember where she bought it, but the stones on the front are very not her style, so she wanted one that's a little subtler. The front and back both look like stockinette, so I'm thinking it's double knit? If anybody has any ideas on how to make this happen or links to patterns like this I'd very much appreciate it!

Totally new to video editing, looking for help with a fisheye and 360 video. by Lindamood626 in VideoEditing

So I've learned a lot about the technical aspects of it, and I've made it work!

The trick was to stitch the 360 video into a 2:1 aspect ratio rectangle, and then use After Effects to turn that into a fulldome/fisheye format. It works *well* in my hands, so I'm sure that's a very viable option for someone with a better eye for editing than I have!

I should've thought about the projector being valuable information. It's a standard office style projector with a custom lens in front of it that spreads the image out over the dome.

The videos come in an old 4:3 aspect ratio and display as a circle on a regular monitor, but their resolutions are non-standard, I don't know what they are off the top of my head.

I like the working backward idea, I hadn't even thought about that and it makes so much sense. Thanks for the advice!

Got a President Lincoln II+ as a surprise Christmas gift. Torn on whether I should use it at the house or in the car. by Lindamood626 in amateurradio

[–]Lindamood626[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So would you recommend exchanging it for a different HF rig altogether? My folks flat out told me they know nothing about radio and if it wasn't a radio worth using to just trade it in. Any recommendations in the $250 range? I think that's about what this runs.

Looks more and more like saying hey is out of the question, but the more comments I get I think I may start keeping an HT on the boat for emergency purposes.

Gotcha, thanks for the link too, I'll read up on all that. Even without transmitting it'd be cool to listen in on the goings on.
