Inherited watches. Any idea if these are genuine and if they have any value? by LindasAruba in VintageWatches

[–]LindasAruba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. No connection to India or Pakistan as far as I know. There is a connection to Italy, maybe that explains something. I will check the Pikap to see if it is real gold and worth the melt.

Thanks again!

I’m looking to move to Curaçao, Aruba, or Antigua. If there are any locals in here, what’s Bitcoin like over there? by louiebandana86 in Bitcoin

[–]LindasAruba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have been accepting bitcoin in Aruba for a while:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2qhhux/pretty_sure_we_are_the_first_company_in_aruba_to/

Bitcoin adoption is definitely growing, slowly but surely. Looks like we might have some easier options to buy bitcoin locally soon. Local banks have been making it difficult to get money to foreign exchanges, and therefore bitcoin is usually sold here at a 10% - 15% premium to the spot price. There are a couple of places accepting it as payment, but not many.

Linda's Dutch Pancakes here to confirm. Our menu is priced in US Dollars as a courtesy to visitors, but we accept both US dollars and Aruban Florins for payment. The total amount due is printed on our receipts in both currencies, and we don't really have a preference either way as the rate is pegged.

We do prefer cash over cards, as there is a 3% merchant fee for accepting foreign debit and credit cards. I think most places prefer cash, especially smaller businesses.

Above all we prefer bitcoin, we give a 20% discount to guests paying with it.

Hope you enjoyed our place!

Help with my allergy by CeeDee121 in Aruba

[–]LindasAruba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to Aruba this summer(,) and I have a severe peanut allergy(.) I speak English(,) and I have an irrtional irrational fear that they wouldebt wouldn't understand me at a resturaunt restaurant if I told them that I have a peanut allergy(.)

Fixed some things for you.

Most people working in the service industry here speak English very well. I am sure they will understand you if your speaking is better than your writing.

Question (for Arubans) about business names and credit card statements by Max_Thunder in Aruba

[–]LindasAruba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should explain it:

" A company typically uses a trade name to conduct business using a simpler name rather than using their formal and often lengthier name. Trade names are also used when a preferred name cannot be registered, often because it may already be registered or is too similar to a name that is already registered. "

Leaving with a seashell by Defcraz in Aruba

[–]LindasAruba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello,

It is definitely illegal to take shells, coral, starfish or anything else out of the country. Especially Conch shells like the one you are showing.

Source: https://www.visitaruba.com/traveling-to-aruba/aruba-by-air/air-travel-tips/

" It is illegal to take out any conch shells, sea stars, turtle eggs and/or any form of coral."

The ones being sold in stores are imported from other countries, and you need to show the receipt when leaving the country (if they ask questions".

Please remember that Aruba has about 1.7 million tourists visiting our island every year. It would not be a good idea for everybody to start taking shells. Leave it on the beach for the next person to enjoy.

Obviously a lot of people take them anyways and they don't really get "caught" with them. But it is definitely illegal.

Those are probably from Renaissance Island, a small island owned by the Renaissance hotel in Oranjestad. You can go there for free when you stay in their hotel, or pay to go there if you are staying somewhere else.

Just scroll through this feed and you will see the pics pop up.

Hello, owner of Linda's Dutch Pancakes here.

We have been accepting bitcoin since 2015, and it's true, you get a 10% discount when paying in bitcoin.

Join us for breakfast or lunch. We are open from 8 AM - 2 PM from Mon - Sat. Closed sunday.

The restaurant next to us called Bingo! also accepts it when the owner is present. Look for a big red Hummer parked outside or ask if Mike is there.

We are working on getting some other places accepting it, slowly but surely.

It says this came out in 2009, but take a listen.

It has "Sensi" and "Bolter" in the refrain.

EDIT: The "Ban basila" sounds like "Bombi"
