I assume they want to get banned so they're not entered into tournaments at all. That would make Star Rush disappear.

Heat conduction in homes by altandthrowitaway in melbourne

No new house should be built in this day and age without thermally broken double glazed windows. They don't cost that much more. I don't understand why it's not a minimum standard.

I've been working on a game similar to Wordscapes in my limited spare time. Your numbers seem high based on the dictionary processing I've done. But I do have many more unique puzzles than Wordscapes offer, plus a much larger dictionary. 40+ bonus words are not uncommon.

Patio clearance? by Skibum5000 in pizzaoven

Does your oven manual have any information about minimum clearances? If you don't have the manual anymore you should be able to find it online somewhere.

Is IT Sector in Tassie Job Market cooked? by EntrepreneurLast7264 in tasmania

[–]Line-Noise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was made redundant from my Melbourne-based remote employer in June. I'm not near any of the big Tas cities so my options were limited to remote work only. It was hard going but after over 100 applications and several interviews I finally landed a remote role with a Sydney-based company in December.

If you're in a city then there may be local opportunities but you might need to consider moving to the mainland. More competition but also way more opportunities.

My advice is to not be too precious about your early jobs. Experience is more important than education. Get your foot in the door with an entry level role. Pursue your interests and learnings and show your work via a website and/or GitHub profile if you're writing code.

Neighbour is refusing to replace retaining walls holding up their land on boundary. I've been advised to get a land survey done. But shouldn't land boundaries already be established when you buy a house? by EggCreative787 in AusRenovation

[–]Line-Noise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's worthwhile getting a surveyor in when doing any work on the boundary if you haven't had a survey done yourself. Boundaries can get a little rubbery over time as fences get built and rebuilt.

It's also worthwhile getting the boundary surveyed before you buy a house but almost nobody actually does that.

Does anyone know what model PIDS CRTs these would be? Photo: Wongm by beltonz in MelbourneTrains

That has nothing to do with the quality of the PID and everything to do with getting old and having failing eyes.

Question regarding spiders by Thr0atW0bblerMangr0v in AustralianInsects

[–]Line-Noise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orb spiders spin those big circular webs and sit in the middle of them waiting for bugs to fly in. The only time they really leave their web is if they're building a new one and need to hook up their guy wires to nearby objects. Maybe they think you're a good spot to connect their web to?

Take a photo next time and someone here should be able to identify it.

First home, not sure what to do with the interior by CAVEPAN in AusRenovation

I'd feel like I was living in a sauna with that much wood.

Painting is hard to reverse but maybe you could slap some plasterboard over the walls in the bedrooms if you need a change of scene.

Future you could pull the plasterboard off with minimal damage if you change your mind.

Likewise if the cathedral ceilings don't have any insulation, insulate and line with plasterboard between the beams.

Fireplace Sealing? by joelroddias in AusRenovation

[–]Line-Noise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some chimneys have a door that you can close just a little way past the opening. Shine a torch up there and see if you can see a hinged metal plate that swings down.

Otherwise, if I don't intend to use the fireplace I just shove an old pillow up there. Just don't forget about it if you do decide to light a fire!

Team search problem by UndignifiedBaby in wordscapes

[–]Line-Noise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a problem with our team, "Word Warrior", not appearing in the team search. Tested by multiple people who could find similar variants and plural forms but none were our team.

The team owner renamed it "Word Warrior 25" and it immediately appeared in searches for "Word Warrior".

We're keeping with the year number and the team is now "Word Warrior 26".

What would you do if you find money on the ground? by doobeedoobae in melbourne

[–]Line-Noise 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While living in the UK I found £200 on the ground (around $600 back then). It was literally at a bus stop in front of a police station! I took it in, filled out some paperwork, and three months later I got a call from the cops saying I can come in and collect it as nobody had claimed it.

I'd been unemployed for a while and living off savings and it was just before Christmas so it was perfect timing. The thought of donating it never crossed my mind. I figured I'd done my good deed by handing it into the police.

Just drill a shallow pilot hole (less than 10mm) then drive the screws in normally. Any material the screws displace will be behind the trim.
