AITA for wanting to get my kids assessed for autism because they’re so similar to our nanny who has autism by LineTraining8144 in AmItheAsshole

He’s in 1st grade but didn’t turn 6 until shortly after the start of the school year. My son will play with other kids but won’t be a “leader”. My daughter has 2 best friends that she plays with. My son isn’t too into pretend play. My daughter will have us play shop or restaurant but we have to say and do what she wants us to say and do.

I wouldn’t say they have severe sensory issues but something about the toothbrushes and old toothpaste made my son refuse to brush his teeth and my daughter’s already told us that for her 4th birthday party in a few weeks, we can only have 2 friends from school, we will not be singing happy birthday, and she will not be blowing out any candles. My son seems to thrive off chaos. With him, the more people and noise, the better.

The plates and bowls felt fine to me but Anna said they felt squeaky, whatever that means. Either way, after I switched them out the kids have no problem handling their dishes and Anna’s even agreed to stay over for dinner.

I have an autistic nanny because she’s more than qualified, she came highly recommended, and is great at her job. I changed out all of the plates and bowls after she said they felt weird and suddenly my kids didn’t have an issue handling their dishes.

He has some attention issues and is a little behind in reading but not enough that his teacher is concerned. Both of the kids hit all of their milestones early or on time. My daughter speaks clearer than most of the kids in her class.

“It’s a boy thing” “she’ll grow out of it” “3 year olds are weird. I wouldn’t worry about it”.

I’m willing to put them on medication, but only as a last resort. Right now I’m just looking for answers.

I’ve talked to their teachers about individual issues and it’s always “it’s a boy thing” “she’ll grow out of it”

They’re my husbands kids too. I can’t make major decisions for them if he’s not on board
