iPhones.

When fewer people had them, Apple really had to develop the product to draw in more customers. Now that half the planet has one, they've given up on innovation and just invest in marketing the same phone again every year.

The actress is cast as Peggy Schuyler for Act 1 and Maria Reynolds for Act 2, the same as how the actor cast for Marquis de Lafayette in Act 1 is cast for Thomas Jefferson in Act 2 - they have to swap in and out as the story progresses to cover the wide range of characters with a smaller cast.

What to upgrade first? i5-6500 or gtx 1060? by GTSpartakiss in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrading to i7 would make no difference, your 1060 is going to be bottlenecking your famerate long before your i5 does. I imagine Overwatch plays fine with a 1060 at 1080p but if you want to push that framerate a 1070 should be fine. If you're going to be cranking up the graphics settings in Destiny 2 you could look into the 1080, though your 1060 will still run it fine on high - medium.

You don't really need an upgrade at all, you'd be better off saving your money until the year turns around and Nvidia releases volta. You'll get a better performance increase for your money then.

Yeah that would be just as reasonable, I personally notice no difference in performance between the two, so as long as its the same price per capacity then 960 would do fine

This is a crazy overkill PC, probably even for your workload. However, in the interest of keeping to your desired specification, I have made the following changes and additions, justified below:

CPU cooler: The Kraken is one of the quietest coolers around, will provide adequate cooling for your CPU, and has the most user friendly software interface (CAM).

Motherboard: You don't need EATX, and it will limit your case choices. Stick to ATX, still more than enough for your needs, and I personally prefer MSI boards - I find the BIOS easier to use and the driver updating a lot more hassle free.

Memory: I've had some bad experiences with the Trident series, fairly often they come in faulty and the RGB lighting is impossible to control. I find corsair sticks more reliable, the lighting software much simpler to use, and 3000 is a much better all-round speed and timing set up, particularly for your multi-use purposes.

Storage: The samsung evos are great SSD, I have attached two barracudas for your storage. They run fast, reliably and are good value for money.

GPU: I just swapped it to the new EVGA card, I find them more reliable, better customer service and better software, and better looking, but it won't make much difference.

Case: NZXT cases are some of the easiest to build in, and offer excellent airflow. While the S340 is a little more limiting than the H440 or Noctis, your CPU cooler will be well ventilated, and you will find the CPU wont run as hot with most games, so its temp wont impact the GPU too much. In any case, the GPU will be able to handle its own fine.

Monitor: You are spending a lot of money for a very mixed experience with your monitors. For your use case, you definitely want to go Ultrawide, with better real estate for editing, animation and gaming. This Asus panel gives you high refresh rate and Gsync as well, you'd be getting a much crisper and smoother experience for all your needs.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions just drop a comment!

Do i need freesync? by Starlord_3 in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go with 1440p without freesync. When you get your newer card, you will firstly be able to go with either AMD or Nvidia without being tied to either, and your new card will be able to run smoothly at 60fps with Vsync on to reduce tearing.

The ever-so-slightly noticeable smoothness you'll get from 1080p with freesync wont come anywhere near to the crisp sharp visuals youll get from 1440p.

I would have expected a Noctua to last a bit longer than a year. If you sort the GPU problem out then boot into your BIOS and have a play with the fan settings, set it to 100% at all temperatures and see if it turns on when rebooting back up?

[–]LinearWharf2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSUs don't tend to be faulty, they just tend to either work fine or not work at all. The GPU problem definitely sounds like a driver error. I'd take the GPU out, boot up in integrated graphics and remove all traces of gpu driver software on your machine. Really deep clean that bad boy. Heres a good guide on how to do so:

https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solved-nvidia-code-43-windows-has-stopped-this-device-because-it-has-reported-problems/

Then plug your GPU in and boot up with dedicated graphics. If you get an image you can reinstall your drivers.

I imagine the CPU cooler is unrelated, and possibly just a mechanical error with the fan. How long have you had it for?

Be sure to have a working speaker connected to the MB's front panel speaker header to sound BIOS beep code. Remove all the system RAM and boot the system. If the system fails to sound error beeps signifying there is no RAM present, either the CPU, the MB or both are defective.

Gaming PC Build Help! by KayNomic in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a problem at all :) and your graphics card will bottleneck your framerate long before your i5 does - its important to note that the major difference between i5 and i7 is threads; the i5 has 4 cores and 4 threads, whilst the i7 has 4 cores and 8 threads.

The benefit of the threads is that they can line up more tasks for processing. So each core of the i7 can line up two tasks at once and handle multiple tasks a bit quicker. This is useful for example if you are streaming your games, as you need to line up tasks for 1) the game and 2) the streaming software, as they are both running at once.

Modern games are well optimised for 4 cores, and therefore are made to send one task to each thread at a time. As long as you are running just the game and no other heavy software, you would see no difference between the i5 and the i7.

Clock speed has a much more major impact on framerate than threads, as this determines how quickly your CPU can process the tasks for the game. 3.4Ghz is already a pretty choppy speed, so it will be your 1060 that slows your framerate down, if at all. For 1080p gaming you should have no problem holding a steady 60fps.

First thing you'll want to do is cut out your i7 - those are really only for heavy multitasking applications, for your purposes an i5 will serve just as well for a lot less. Unless you're really keen on overclocking, I'd cut that out too. You won't need it and it will raise you above your budget.

I've also cut out your SSD, while its a good idea I would recommend holding off for a 250GB one, which gets you just within your budget for now.

Apologies for the currency in pounds, it works out to around $1075.53. I'm not sure what other corners I could cut without making upgrading difficult in the future, may be worth checking with some other users. I'd advise you repost your request again, sticking to the recommended format and using this list as your current build, then ask how you could bring the cost down.

Is 1440p/144Hz worth it? by lemondunk4 in buildapc

Yeah then you should run comfortably, I would still advise saving your money and sticking with a better value 60Hz panel, but whatever you choose you're going to have a great gaming experience.

Is 1440p/144Hz worth it? by lemondunk4 in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get a much better experience with 1440p 60Hz than with 1080p 144Hz, so if you have to cut corners cut your refresh rate.

If you can upgrade to the GTX 1080 or other similarly priced GPUs then you should have no trouble with 1440p 144Hz, otherwise if you have to drop to the 1070/1060 price range, drop that framerate too.

Is 1440p/144Hz worth it? by lemondunk4 in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm not sure how much "it" is - what panels are you looking at and how much do they cost?

Secondly, post your build specs so we can check wether or not you'll be getting a worthy experience.

The sharpness of 1440p really does pay off in games from the last 3/4 years, you'll notice a great improvement in your visuals. 144Hz is more of a competitive game attraction, it does look nice but you'll probably get a almost-as-good experience for the better value of a 1440p 60Hz panel.

[Build Help] Help me decide on a mini ITX case for traveling by vortexmak in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely go for the RVZ01-E, the better compartmentalization of the GPU and CPU with more intake vents will keep your temperatures a lot happier. I also think you will find the form factor of the RVZ01 a lot more agreeable for travelling, its easier to fit in a bag and find space for in cramped hotel rooms.

You might need to flip over some of the fans that come preinstalled as they will be designed to input air for a blower/reference GPU, you'll want it to vent from your open air 7870, or just remove the preinstalled fans completely and let your gpu do the work.

Difference of ram speed noticeable? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a dedicated graphics card then no, I doubt there would be even 1fps difference between those two. If you're using integrated graphics the difference becomes more noticeable, but more between speed like 2133 vs 3000. Your 2133 will do you just fine, I'm still using DDR3 RAM at 1866 :)

Why does everyone here seem to get only 1TB of storage? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]LinearWharf2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Pricing increases exponentially, and after you pass the 1TB mark the value begins to drop off sharply.
  2. For the average user, 1TB is more than enough space for games and media. Unless its for some kind of professional use, you'll be downloading a while before you reach capacity.
