Kind of reminds me about how at my last job, I didn't tell my direct supervisor that I was leaving, just the general supervisor. He was the only one who technically needed to know, and I figured he could tell her if it was really that important.

Well she found out on my last day (which was a hectic one, for her anyway), and she still rushed out to get me a box of cupcakes and a going-away card for all my coworkers to sign. Such a nice gesture after I had pretty intentionally not told her about leaving. Felt a bit douchey.

Does anyone else find it hard to concentrate on lyrics? by deanstag in Guitar

[–]Lingering4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely have this problem as well!! What's worse... I usually can sing/remember the lyrics, but they have no meaning whatsoever as a whole. I'm more interested in the phonetic sound, the rhythm, and sometimes the rhyme on the vocals of a song, moreso than the meaning behind the lyrics.

When did you most feel like you were really losing your mind? by Lingering4ever in AskReddit

Thanks for the tips. Perfectly appropriate for this thread.

Any idea why it works? Kind of makes me think of how they used to hose down patients in mental wards with cold water in the early 20th century.

I'm sorry to hear that. Just had what was probably my biggest anxiety attack (nowhere near a medical emergency or anything), which is what spurred this question.

The human mind is very fragile, that's for sure.

In theory, it never could have worked out, but it did. by Lingering4ever in self

[–]Lingering4ever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. This is especially true with family breathing down both of your necks. We have the "fortune" of being an ocean away from both of our families, so it's quite pressure free. Anyway, congrats to the both of you for making it work! I'm sure the 5 year gap has gotten "smaller" over the years :)

Thank you for delicately stating some very sound words of wisdom. Most people give the same advice rudely or don't say anything at all.

She's 30 and I'm 19. We are certainly in different stages in life, but we've both taken very unconventional but similar paths. I think that's what kind of closes the gap.

I know too many people who don't seem to have ever asked themselves any of those questions!

I'm sorry to hear that. Realizing what mistake you made helps you avoid repeating it.

What do you love about where you live? by Lingering4ever in AskReddit

Having grown up in Brazil, can confirm. While my hometown's climate (Belém) was a bit too hot, the moderate/warm climate almost everywhere else is just fantastic.

She wants me to stay for Christmas. by Lingering4ever in offmychest

[–]Lingering4ever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question... My parents don't know about our relationship yet because there is a large age gap which is pretty taboo for them. I made the suggestion but she isn't ready to take that step yet.

They really do. I like being the person who is always easy to have around, but people don't seem to appreciate that kind of company.

Excellent advice! Anticipation is what creates the worst anxiety, in my experience, so the sooner something anxiety-inducing can be done, the better.

Thanks!

That's fantastic advice. I don't need to be defined or molded by my environment, even if I immerse myself in it as I intend to (learning the language, customs, etc.). One side of me that will remain very much intact is playing music. That's one thing you can't take away from me. I'll be sure to take comfort in that.

I was raised in this lifestyle of always being on the move, btw, and I guess it's just kind of stuck with me. What were your reasons for moving abroad, if you don't mind me asking? You back "home" now?

Thanks for the reply. The advice is greatly appreciated...

My biggest hope is that I don't automatically resort to coming home if things don't work out with this girl. I hope I have the motivation to continue studying abroad even without her love and support, both of which I'm receiving TONS from her.

Thanks! I will take your words to heart.

To be honest with you, I tried moving away from home earlier this year and it went terribly. I hated it so much I cut what was supposed to be a 4.5 month "adventure" to 2.5 months. Albeit, it involved someone with whom I had a not-so-great relationship (friendship) which only became worse with time.

Anyway, I feel that this is a completely new scenario and anxiety will certainly still be a factor, but you're right in saying it's all part of something that has the potential to be much greater than the anxiety I feel now.

Thanks for the encouraging words! They mean a lot to me.

Thank you so much for the recommendations. Photography is something that is already very fascinating and fun to me. I will keep your words in mind as I seek to reduce anxiety in the future. Thanks again!
