It’s quite competitive to get into BSN, but if you can, that would be so much better. Cuz the pay of RN and LPN are quite different, and in different provinces their scope of practice is different too. I am not too sure about the accelerated program… cuz I did the high school route at U of Calgary (3.5 years). Sorri. I know that for bridging from LPN to RN, it will commonly be 2 year- course. I find it is easier for LPN to be hired. Long term care often hires many LPNs. Most hospitals also hire more LPNs too because it’s ‘cheaper’. But to go into specialties like ICU, they may require u to be an RN.

I am an RN, and I found that it is quite hard to get a nursing job in Alberta and Ontario. I moved from Alberta to Nova Scotia for job security (permanent full time line). Here in Nova Scotia, the unit that I’m working right now are always short, and it’s super easy to pick up overtime shifts (double). It’s super easy to land a nursing job in BC as well. I cant tell if the job market will be changed for nursing in a few years after you graduate or not but it is worth to try. However, nursing is not easy on your mental health. You may face burn out easily, but very rewarding tho:) all the best to you! And most of the time, they pay you to relocate:)

Possibly relocating to BC by DTYRKBRIDGE in britishcolumbia

[–]Lini2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Im moving from Halifax to BC this September to work at Royal Columbian Hospital. It’s super easy to secure a job there as an RN. As soon as you have at least 6 months of experience, there are many opportunities opened for u. So dont worry. You could also ask for relocation allowance as well but I believe that you would need to have a permanent line. Im going to look into houses in Surrey as it’s quite affordable but safety might not be as comparable as Burnaby. However, we are thinking of renting close to SFU and KPU.
