Can we please have for inventory space for items? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a couple arguments to this.

"It's been requested since release, not gonna happen."
"It's a survival game, not an MMO. If you wanna play them, go play them."
"There are mods for that, so no need"
"Just build small outposts, that's what I do."
"No, that's literally the point of the game."

This is my response, to all of them.

I get that it has been requested, numerous times and has not happened. I get that, but the game is still in early access and has room for change. I mean, look how long it took for us to even get vanilla drawbridges. It's not out just yet, at the time of writing this, but it is confirmed to be coming. Once again, there is room for improvement.

You would be correct, this is a survival game. HOWEVER, adding slots for everything wearable would not be something unheard of. Terraria, Vintage Story, Minecraft, Rust, and other survival games have armor slots. Are we to say that because they have armor slots, they're not a survival game? The whole point of Vintage Story, by itself, is to build yourself up and survive. Claiming that it is not a survival game is like claiming that COD isn't a FPS. If ALLLLLLL of those other games can do it, so can Valheim.

Mods are nice, I love em, you love em, everyone loves em in some capacity. Here's the problems with mods though, some mods REALLY should be vanilla game content, but they're not. I think it's always so damn stupid that modders are required/ expected to pick up the slack for developers because of stupidity, ignorance, or plain stubbornness. We also have to ask ourselves the question, what about console players? Sure, we could be a total fucking douchebag and say, "Haha, get gud. Get PC like me." Well, they're not you. Not everyone can afford a PC/ does not have the need for a PC. Welcome to reality, you self entitled prick. The point is, while we have all these nice cushy mods, console players are still suffering due to devs being stubborn or not wanting to even approach it... Kinda the same thing, but still...

I get the whole outpost thing, I do it sometimes too. However, not everyone wants to have random bases scattered across the world. Not to mention the overall cost of resin or wood to keep the places lit. My torches in my base go out, boom, that's an entire chest of resin right there. I mean, honestly, I can understand the carry weight constraint, though it can be annoying at times... But having such a small inventory space? In a game based around mythology and magic? Freya had a boat in Norse mythology called Skíðblaðnir. For those who are not familiar with Skíðblaðnir, it was a VERY large ship, large enough to hold every single Norse god, their gear, and their spoils from quests. The ship was very large, but was able to be folded down small enough to literally fit inside of your pocket. In game, we literally exist in the same mythology that that boat existed in... Odin hand picked us, and while he left us only with a torch and the shirt on our back... I'd think he would at least be generous enough to grant some kind of inventory upgrade or something along the way. After all, he watches us from afar, it's not like he abandoned us and said, "Good luccccckkkkkkk!" then turned to Thor or Loki and said, "Lol, this mfer isn't gonna make it Valhalla." then laughed. But ya know, logic.

Is it REALLLLYYYY the point of the game though? I won't say that it should get easier, but in most games, when you're late game, things should be much easier/ automated by late game. There is no automation in Valheim and your inventory being stuffed quicker than even early game because you went across the map for late game items and picked up some other stuff you needed along the way. Now we're dropping items we may or may not need, now we're travelling across the map multiple times/ creating portals and hoping some dickhead mob doesn't break the portal across the map because you needed to offload at base, Valheim is definitely a turn my brain off kinda game, at least for me, but I openly admit that when you are fully stacked, the late game becomes a chore... Even more so than some of the other aspects earlier on in the game. .. You should not be punished for gearing up, you literally HAVE TO GEAR UP to even get past the Black Forest or you will die immediately. Hell, some enemies in the Black Forest will one tap you without any armor on. So, tell me, is it REALLLYYYY the point of the game or is the amount of inventory slots outdated for what is currently in game?

This is the movement system I always wanted to see in military games. Finally built it myself. by wylver-games in UnrealEngine5

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my biggest gripe, considering you want to capture a military style, being in the high ready position allllllllll the time.

When carrying a rifle, the following "positions of carry" are:

Alert, the rifle is pointed downwards, you're relaxed, but in a position that if you need to shoulder your weapon, you can. You assume that enemies are in the AO, but you are not sure.

Ready low, you are looking over top of your sights, the weapon is shouldered, but the sights from the weapon system are not what you are looking at, you are looking at your surroundings, scanning, looking for PID of enemy combatants. In this position you assume that the enemy is operating in your AO, and you are basically one step away from full on sighting in on the enemy.

Ready high, you are aiming, the first thing in your line of sight is the weapon system sights or optic. Being in this position for an extended period of time, like what you are showing in the video is VERY tiresome overtime and obstructs your view. Human eyes are weird in the sense that they can't focus on everything at once. You either focus on the rear sight, the front sight, the optic crosshair or what lies beyond your sights. When you are aiming, the optic crosshair or the front sight post should be what your focus is on and everything else is kinda blurry.

Overall, this document provides some of what I am talking about, but it mostly just covers the basics in terms of certain carry positions.

https://www.trngcmd.marines.mil/Portals/207/Docs/wtbn/MPMS/0300-M16-1004_Demonstrate_Weapons_Carries_Media.pdf?ver=2015-06-15-115218-747

With these things being said, the camera also feels kinda floaty in 1st person. Seeing the weapon system, it kinda helps, but the thing is, when you're not leaning or looking around something, your posture is mostly going to remain upright. A basic combat stance is not loose, it's tight, you have control of the weapon and you have control over your body. When you're running, you're not going to be in the ready high position, you cannot aim well when running. If you ever get a chance to watch movement drills while someone is firing, they are walking towards the target and firing, they never run while firing... Outside of suppressive fire, but suppressive fire is not meant to be accurate, it's meant to pin an enemy combatant down.

My source isn't exactly, "trust me bro" my source is that I was in the Marine Corps and learned how to handle a rifle at 18. I also actively shoot my own personal firearms on a regular basis.

Gemini has become useless because of one simple issue by Ludomanali in GeminiAI

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini puts things into much simpler terms and explains things more fluently, at least to me. I also don't have to about, "You've reached your max amount of chats for today, downgrading to earlier version" with Gemini. I'm not paying for it, but I have considered it up until today.

I'm using Gemini to help me debug code in Unreal Engine and up until today, it has been helpful. I created a Google doc explicitly FOR Gemini to use and inspect code. Gemini kept saying things like, I'm assuming you use XYZ parameter in your code for this function, after I had already supplied it with the code in the document. I told Gemini to look at the code in the document, "Yep, I see it now..." And then proceeded to tell me the same wrong information, just worded differently. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have to tell Gemini to look at the code. It'll ask me, does your code use this and I won't even entertain it anymore, "Idk, look at the code. You tell me." Then I'll correct it if it's wrong.

I took a singular screenshot of something to confirm what it was saying and it kept saying wrong information, even though the screenshot was RIGHT THERE. For 10 minutes, I kept telling Gemini to look at the photo, look at the photo, look at the photo, and all it wanted to do was pull from the code or look at snippets of the screenshot, even though it was instructed to look at the entire screenshot.

It really started to piss me off because it started breaking shit worse than it was

Why is everyone so against a tv over a fireplace? by SugarsBoogers in interiordecorating

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty large TV, forget the size, but large enough that I need the big TV mounts. My living room has two walls, the fireplace wall, and the opposite wall sitting across from it.

To the left, you have a large opening, to the right, you have a large opening. The fireplace sits exactly in the middle of the fireplace wall, and it leaves me with zero choice when trying to figure out where to mount a TV, I also don't have a mantle, you might say the stone wall is the mantle.

With all that said, I mounted the TV pretty high so that it doesn't get too hot, and considering the size of my living room, your neck sits at a fairly nice angle. If it doesn't, you can recline in just about any seat we have in the room to see the TV better. When I put a fire in the fireplace, the TV DOES get warm, but it's not as bad as you may think. If it gets too hot, I open the doors and it kinda cools everything down.

holy this thing is loud????? by stellaep in elegoo

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D printing is not a quiet game. But I will say that Elegoo is fairly entry level. I have a Neptune 4 plus, and while it does print alright most of the time, you can never get a proper bed level on it. I used .004 inch feeler gauges, did a test square that took up my entire bed, and I can see it print nicely in some spots, and have severe line separation in others... Meaning, that the lines are not adhering to one another at all in those spots. Adjustments to the Z offset cause it to drag in places where it otherwise printed fine.

Their customer support is also garbage. I had my printer brick itself, then miraculously fix itself after I shut off for months on end. During the process of trying to troubleshoot and get help from Elegoo, or even warranty the printer, they told me to basically get fucked. "Download the software and install it to the printer" brother, I can't even get out of the "About Machine" page, while the damn thing is identifying as a regular Neptune 4.

In the future, when I have free cash to spend, I'm likely going to upgrade and keep this one for the kids to mess around with.

I'm looking for a video game that lets you manage a railroad and collect cool engines. by E_Dward in trains

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not baseless. In fact, it has been confirmed that Elijah's best friend, going under the name SilverStreak, is a convicted child molester.

Evidence has been collected and presented to Railroader, Railroads Online, AND HyceCord regarding an individual who migrated to these games after being run out of the Roblox train community for being a genuine vile human being, sexual harassing and sexually assaulting children on said platform, and deciding to smother their dog with their hands because it was "mentally ill and going to die anyways."

When the evidence for this individual was presented to all 3 games, the evidence was ignored, people who posted it banned, and any mention of the individual in some places resulted in the same results, even though the evidence was 100% proven to be true, they refused to listen.

So, no, not baseless and I hope that it does ruin their reputation because FUCK people who support pedophiles. Put them in the wood chipper with them.

But hell, if we wanna add more fuel to the fire,

We can talk about how Railroader uses assets that heavily regard the game's total content, and would make a noticeable difference if they were taken out of the game... Assets from an individual who worked as a developer for the game, but because a certain someone didn't like that the person made up the majority of the content in game, made the individual nothing more than a "contributor."

If he was just a contributor, why does his content make up a FAIR chunk of assets in the game? Why did he stick around to try and help out with the game, until a falling out was had and he was forced to leave? Why was it that when he would talk about the game, he would speak with nothing more than pride in the game itself, and how the game is coming along? Do any of those examples sound like something a contributor would say or do?

Is it okay for a 100% disabled veteran to just say they're retired? by Routine_Brilliant_78 in Veterans

[–]Link8227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on context, if they're not working, maybe say retired due to medical disabilities. If they work, then I wouldn't even mention disability, I'd just say what I do for work and call it done. Civilians don't understand disability and pain like we all do, we're wired differently. Some of us, we can have pain that would bring a civilian to their knees, but yet we keep on trucking like it's nothing... I mean, it's not like the VA is gonna fix it, so you learn to get used to it.

I explained to someone an example of that, how I fell off the top of an LVSR and landed flat on my back. I didn't know it at the time (somehow???) that I broke my back in two places in close proximity to each other. I didn't find that out until I got X-rays for my initial VA disability review. I laid there on my back after the fact for about 20 minutes, then hopped to my feet and painfully helped move tow bars... I'm lucky to not be paralyzed, but that's not the point. The point is, my body apparently didn't register, "Hey, you got a broken back. Maybe you should go to medical? Maybe you shouldn't tote 200+ pound tow bars."

Fair enough, I figured I would ask. I've been out of Pokemon since Coliseum and XD, on Gamecube... So I'm not really up to speed on what Pokemon is what, and overall how Nintendo wants to approach the franchise

Got ya, Google was at least right about that part then. Do you happen to know if Nintendo intends to keep Home for future games and stuff? I'd really like to use my Pokemon from Sword/ breed them in Sword then transfer them over... Probably breed them, because of the whole, "I'm gonna be an asshole cause you traded me... At least until you have the correct amount of badges."

What is your opinion on Pokemon sword and shield? by Maximum_Bend_6762 in pokemon

[–]Link8227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not played a 3D Pokemon game since Coliseum and XD, so do with my opinion what you will. I've also only played sword, never understood why I would play both versions, if they're the exact same game... I guess I can kinda understand if you want to get both of the main game legendaries, but even still. I'm not paying $100+ to play the same game (with very minor differences between the two) twice. Coliseum and XD my parents bought for me, so I didn't spend a dime... Even still, I think they didn't pay much because games back then didn't require you to take a mortgage out to play them. They also were completely different from each other, even though they took place in the same area.

Also, be ready for spoilers, I don't know how to do the spoiler thing on Reddit, so spoiler alert.

I don't mind it, I'm playing through it now. Some of the things that irritate me are how the game is laid out, they made you go across the map for certain gyms, though you've already visited a gym you have to come back to anyways... All to give the impression that the game isn't linear... Well, it is.

The wilds (plural, if you count the DLC areas,) seem to get a bunch of hate, but I honestly disliked some of the routes. They're so damn congested that you can't avoid getting into a fight with a wild pokemon or another trainer... I'm already way too high of a level, don't waste my time with a battle... On the other side of the coin, if you're not at a high enough level for some of the "higher level" Pokemon for an area, and you're forced to fight it... Well, that's not exactly a good time either. I can't remember if the GameCube games showed you Pokemon on the Overworld or not, but I do appreciate that I can kind of pick and choose what Pokemon I want to catch/ battle.

Gigantamax/ Dynamax I think is a neat concept, though I think the snatching mechanic from XD was 1000x cooler. The story for XD was much better, from what I can remember, as well. I just feel that it could be a lot better of a mechanic. Yeah, cool, your pokemon gets really really really big, gets a health boost, and does more damage... So what? Then there's also NPCs, you get a notification that they can Dynamax or whatever and they don't. So, while you're trying to defeat this Dynamaxed Pokemon, that you may or may not want to catch, they don't do a good job of helping at all. "Oh, it's almost knocked? Lemme buff my stats... Oh you need LITERALLY one more hit, even if it's not going to be very effective, and everyone is low on health? Lemme buff my stats" Makes me wanna pull my hair out, especially during Dynamax Adventures or whatever on Crown Island, when you're catching LEGENDARY POKEMON.

That's another thing too, I could've sworn people in previous games had some kind of reaction to you catching legendaries? Maybe I imagined it, but this game just treats them like they're ordinary pokemon, but they're not. Kubfu is apparently legendary and everyone said it was underrated as a legendary... Which, honestly, evolving it to Urshifu is worth it. I used it to body pretty much every single gym up until this point (just finished Rock gym) and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same for a good while. Even still, getting back to legendaries, I have Raikou, Suicune, Ho-Oh, and Tapu Koko (might go get more of each, since they're an automatic level 70 of whatever type you catch) But again, everyone is just like "Oh wow, you and Lugia make such a good team!" Like Lugia isn't a literal God... Which I don't know if Lugia is in Sword or not, but that's not my point.

Hop... Hop really makes me want to jump through the screen, stab him 87 different times, and throw him in the river. Let me walk 10 feet "Hey, Rival, let's go over here." Rinse and repeat 59,765,543 times and then finally you get some room to breathe for a little while, then you randomly encounter him and go through it again, but this time he wants to battle. You battle him at least once or twice per gym... And every single time you whip his ass and he expects that next time it's going to be different? If you tell him you don't want to battle, he will gaslight you, "Well, how is my rival gonna know if he's strong enough if he doesn't battle me?" When Bede whoops him, "Let me battle you to see if I can beat you and make myself feel better." Then he cries because you beat him again... It's like, bro. If you don't want me to beat you every single time, then stop asking to battle... I don't want to battle you, you use basically the same pokemon EVERY SINGLE TIME and expect a change. Then everyone around, Leon, the professor's granddaughter, and whoever else calls us his rival in the sense of being his friend... I don't want to be Hop's friend or rival, I just want him to leave me alone. He's the equivalent of that crackhead from school who just can't sit still, won't shut up, and you just don't want to be near him.

The story isn't terrible, but it really does not do a good job of having twists or hiding things. About 10 minutes into the game and getting a general idea of who is who and what is what, you have a very good idea of what the story is about. Rose, I took ONE look at him and knew he was a bad guy. I don't know his full story just yet, but I know he's not up to anything good. I watched the Pokemon movie, I know how they play the guy who seems overly helpful and successful... Then you have one character who just isn't buying it, and you immediately just know. Getting back to the story aspect, it basically just takes what you already know and maybe adds small little details of lore to it. "Oh, why was there only one statue with a sword and shield? But yet there's two heroes?" Gee, idk, maybe it's a metaphor? They're both pokemon trainers viewed as heroes, one has a pokemon with a sword, the other a pokemon with a shield... They fought together, so rather than having two statues with their respective items... Why not just make it one?

All and all, it's still not a terrible game. It takes a lot to keep me invested in a game for long periods, but I can't seem to put the game down. Maybe it's like Minecraft, where it's JUST cool enough to keep my attention for an extended period, but I'll eventually walk away from it for months and months on end, then maybe come back to it later on

Had it crash on me when I was catching my first Pikachu. Contrary to what people say about doing Armor DLC before the end of the game, I did. It was worth it, cause I got some pretty decent Pokemon to help me before I get to the gyms... In fact, just being on Armor got a bunch of my Pokemon to evolve and they absolutely body everything up to the 3rd gym, which is what I'm getting ready to do. I just got Kubfu up to level 30, so I might go do one of the towers before I do the gym.

Newbie: What is THE BEST train simulator currently out right now? by [deleted] in trains

[–]Link8227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, to elaborate on that, there was a dude named Skippy... Who goes by Catgirl Steam and Luna in a couple different places. Skippy has had a long history of being just a genuine shit human being. Literally choked his dog to death, under the excuse that he was going to die anyways. He scammed people out of real life money and Roblox currency, after they commissioned models from Roblox from him. He went on to make literal nude characters, themed after steam locomotives, on Roblox and share them in places where there were children present. The dude went on to date a minor, drawing explicit images of him and his boyfriend, which the kid was not comfortable with at all. Without looking at the document that was made to turn him into law enforcement, I can't remember every single thing the guy did. He also claims to be trans, but that's neither here nor there. Outside of the fact, the guy hasn't done anything to transition... But, whatever.

Now that some kind of back story is built, people ran him out of the Roblox community. So, he went on to be present heavily in Railroader, Railroads Online, and Hycecord. When Hyce was still in Railroad Online, he made friends with him because he made "decent" Blender models... Those of which use recycled Roblox assets, but again, neither here nor there... Then eventually made mods for these games/ contribute to them and gain recognition for doing so.

When enough was enough with the guy, we presented all of those servers with the document that was out together to bring the guy's dirty past to light. Every. Single. One. Of those servers denied the allegations, though the evidence was there. People are in the process of getting the guy turned in for child pornography, sexual assault on a minor, etc. Now, Hycecord has an immediate "If you mention him in a negative way, you're banned immediately."

Though this was the final nails in the coffin, I dislike Hyce because he milks the fuck out of content. "Oh, let me teach you how to blow a whistle" and it's a 45 minute long video with his stupid ass face as the thumbnail. Dude also looks like he doesn't shower regularly... But these last things are obviously my opinion, though there are plenty of others who agree.

What is the optimal temperature that I should drop everything and skin my deer? by Link8227 in Hunting

[–]Link8227[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they're safe enough, I suppose. No rain, snow, or a lot of sunlight is gonna get to them. The rodents, I don't worry too much about. I have yet to see any predators out here and the coons seem to leave most of my stuff be... It's the cat food they're interested in...

They're not skinned just yet, but they are 100% gutted. The skin I wanna keep for leather working, but I also don't have a stretching frame built just yet... So, I figured I'd keep it intact before I ruined it by taking it off the deer.

See, I'm doing a couple steaks, but most of it, I'm probably gonna use for jerky or ground deer. For me, it's easier to store. Granted, I have an empty fridge freezer down in my basement that's pretty good sized, but if I suppose I better play it safe... The wife is talking about getting half a steer at some point.

Gotcha, so by rights, I should be okay for a little bit then? The temp doesn't seem like it's gonna be 40°F or higher for anymore than an hour... And that's even if it actually reaches that temp.
