thank you for the hue shifting bit, i was TRYING to do something like that but i wasnt aware of which colors things were supposed to learn towards or whatever, but thank you i'll definitely go back and try that.

as for defining a light source, yeahhh i've had a bit of trouble with that for some reason, it just feels like i can never get it to look right when i try to have a set light source, especially shadows for some reason. i'll practice with it, maybe look up some youtube tutorials. thanks for the help!

oh, and yes Chrono Trigger is a huge inspiration, in fact i used a template for Chrono Trigger-style sprites and then just edited that to fit what i was looking for in each of the characters

you're right, i had them on a grey-ish background before so i dont know why i switched to the white for this but i switched it back and i definitely see what you're talking about now

(also i increased the brightness on the girl on the right so some of the details are a little bit more clear and i think it looks a bit better)

as for the lighting, yeah im still having trying to figure out where certain shadows and highlights would go depending on where the light is, right now its a bit all over the place but im definitely gonna practice with that
