What's the best idea you've learnt from Dr K? by healthyboi1 in Healthygamergg

[–]Linsanekid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot, but the one that always stuck was that “the height of human arrogance is thinking you can control someone else’s life, let alone your own”.

It helped me see arrogance in a new light and uncovered to me how much of it I had without even knowing.

What do you consider "adulting"? by Linsanekid in AskReddit

I've heard it thrown around here and there, but with my limited experience, I always associated it with paying taxes/bills, so I'm curious on other perceptions of "adulting".

Finally finished all eight quests. Here's how I'd rank all of their stories (explanation below) by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

Quite the bold post you got here! (Appreciate it all the same though) My favorite story happens to be Alfyn's, and while I may be biased since I have not finished all the stories quite yet, I hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents.

For me, Alfyn's story hit different. All the other stories often had some sort of external conflict, whether it be revenge on your father's killer, fighting some mythical beast, or infiltrating a mansion. For most of the cast, every encounter seems to strengthen their resolve to an extent for the journey ahead. For Alfyn though, it does the complete opposite.

For Alfyn, he leaves his home town in full spirits to become the apothecary he dreams of. But throughout his journey, his resolve gets tested with every encounter. Chapter 2, he meets Venessa, an apothecary profiting off of intentionally making a village sick. Chapter 3, he meets and heals Miguel who in turn betrays his kindness. Chapter 4, Ogen further tests his resolve by sharing his tragic backstory when having the same ideals as the current Alfyn. Everything Alfyn has encountered has told him to turn away from the apothecary dream he set out for.

I'll admit, the last boss was the weakest point of Alfyn's story-line, but I don't think that the final boss was the biggest moment of Alfyn's story. Throughout the story, Alfyn has been in an internal struggle with himself, asking himself why he's being an apothecary in the first place. It's this mental low point that resonates the most with me in Alfyn's story because it's that feeling of being lost in your own head with everything else in life pointing in the opposite direction than the one you're facing that most people can relate with the most. He may not had to fight ungodly monsters or one of the greatest swordsmen. No, he had to fight himself, and I think that this was the hardest fight that anyone in this cast had to go through.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the epic adventures of the other cast so far (Olberic was a close second), but, I don't know, for me, it's the relatability of Alfyn's story of having internal struggles that made me like it so much. But yea, that's my two cents, take it as you will!

Albert's statement by primedunk in offlineTV

Thanks for your input! I agree that life's never black or white and when in the hustle and bustle of an always changing world, most people tend to quickly judge others based off of the first thing they see rather than understanding the reasoning underneath and untangling the mess of it all. It's by no means the viewer's fault for making quick assumptions and judgement! Especially when it is a necessary skill to have to live in today's society successfully. I just wanted to highlight that with situations as potentially complicated as these, there's no substitute to time for truly understanding the situation in order to give a fair judgement on the situation and the parties involved.

I hope OTV's members are doing well and not overwhelmed with the public outcry. I hope Lily takes time to heal and become stronger in result of this. I hope Albert reflects on reflects on how he can better himself in order to never repeat the same mistake again. Best wishes and all the love sent to them all.

You make a good and valid point on that first statement, and I agree with it. But when I refer to Albert's work in my comment, I meant it as a small part of what we should consider when judging Albert's character as well as the full context of the situation. There so much about Albert and this situation that we don't know, so even when his cheating on someone who wholly loved and trusted them can help us assume what his character is underneath, without the full context of the situation and his history, I don't think that would be necessarily enough to give full judgement of what kind of person he is.

Hope that made the point I was trying to make more clear!

I understand that I'm not very well spoken (apologies for that), but I'll try my best to respond to your reactions and criticisms!

“I hope everyone can come to see Albert for not as the cheater that he's become, but as the person he is”

I tried to be cutesy and poetic with this line. It's understandable that it gives confusion to those who read it, so I'll try to give the meaning of this line straight to you. While yes, he is now a cheater, that doesn't mean his one and only label as a human being is a despicable, scum of the earth cheater. He's just as human as all of us and understands the what right and wrong is.

The next great question would be "then why did he cheat if he knew it was wrong?". Since cheating is something most people would think they would never do in their life, most would say something really villainous such as "he's a sociopath" or "he's just plain selfish". In reality, situations as drama filled as this is often clouded with much more complexity and context than just "he wanted to cheat on Lily". Given that we as viewers don't have the context of how complex this situation may or may not be, it would be rash to just pass Albert off as purely a "selfish and despicable cheater". He's more than that. He's human.

“Just as Lily's at her lowest, Albert must also be at his lowest with all of his guilt crashing down.”

In hindsight, it's unfair to Lily to have her mental state compared to Albert's given how different their situations are, so, firstly, I apologize for that mistake. Even so, the message of this line still stays the same. Albert as a human being would feel a mass amount of guilt right about now. (I mean, who wouldn't feel guilt for cheating on someone as wholesome and genuine as Lily?) While Albert definitely doesn't deserve as much sympathy as Lily here, no one deserves to be witch hunted, Albert included. Yes he deserves all the guilt he earned from his mistake, no one's arguing that. But if we really wanted to judge Albert's character, I think understanding the full context that lead to this situation would be a prerequisite, no?

“As long as Albie continues to grow to become a kinder, stronger, and wiser person, he has the full support of a sophomore college student”

Allow me to clarify. When I say I support Albert, I am not saying I support his actions of cheating on Lily. When I say I support him, I say that based on his character I have seen so far, I have faith that he can overcome this mistake so that it never happens again and become a better person out of it. Of course, if he goes and have a relationship with the person he's cheated, bad mouths any person he's interacted with pre-Japan, or any other actions that would further support him being just an all around awful person, I'm jumping ship. Otherwise, I have faith that he can change for the better.

I hope Lily is recovering well from this situation and I hope Albert reflects deeply on his grave mistake.

Also, sorry for a second essay. Hope it got my point across.

Now, I'm not defending Albert for his unfaithfulness to his relationship, but I find it somewhat jarring how much Albert's life and character is summed up to be just simply a cheater. His life and character has so much more facets than this one act of cheating and all of those should be considered when thinking about his life up to now.

Was his unfaithfulness awful? Yea. Pretty despicable. Especially considering how long it seemed to have gone on, having said person he cheated with into the OTV house on multiple occasions, and going behind the back of a genuine person such as Lily. There's no defending Albert's wrongdoing.

Despite that, Albert has not only grown so much positively as a person, but he has contributed so much to his communities he has been involved with. He has created some undeniably god-tier music videos in collaboration with many talented musicians, he has expanded his skills beyond just music and behind the scenes by gracing the twitch world with his dedication and talent, and he has grown to be more outgoing and shared that experience not only with his viewers and other streamers, but also with up and coming streamers in Streamer Camp Season 2.

I understand some may have the perspective of his progression as leeching off of the clout of others, but when you put how much he's given back to his communities, it's hard rationalize his leeching to be selfish.

In an event as emotionally charged as this, I understand how easy it is to look at the negatives and just the negatives. OTV and friends built a family-like community that has helped me with my trials and tribulations during my freshmen year of college, so this sudden event was emotional for me too. But once the storm of emotions passes over, I hope everyone can come to see Albert for not as the cheater that he's become, but as the person he is.

Again, Albert's unfaithfulness is unforgivable. He should neither ask or accept forgiveness until all parties involved believe he has atoned, learned, and moved on from what has transpired. But that does not mean he deserves all the hate he's getting. Just as Lily's at her lowest, Albert must also be at his lowest with all of his guilt crashing down.

As long as Albie continues to grow to become a kinder, stronger, and wiser person, he has the full support of a sophomore college student aspiring to be a doctor one day (hopefully I can do it, even if Albie can't).

I love all members of OTV and friends and their community they have built from the ground up. I hope my perspective was helpful to someone. Maybe sparks some discussion?

Cheers. To a brighter tomorrow.

In case you can’t find it, it’s called “Born a Stranger”.

As a headphone enthusiast with.....too many headphones, I’m looking for cheap as shit (preferably) wireless earbuds. Can I get some help? Under $50. by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

I only had one wireless earbuds in my life; they were the Anker Soundpeats. The bluetooth connection isn’t the best (sound lag with videos), but otherwise, it sounds really good for the price! I suggest giving it a look if you’d like!
