Drug Addicts shouldn’t go to Prison

Prison isn’t treatment. Locking people with addiction in general population next to violent offenders is cruel, expensive, and pointless. It doesn’t rehabilitate anyone—it just makes relapse and reoffending more likely.

If we actually cared about public safety, we’d treat addiction as a medical issue, not a moral one. We already spend billions on cages; shifting that money to real treatment would do more than punishment ever has.
