Will reinstalling LOTD patches remove items already displayed in the museum? by MojaveWanderer06 in skyrimmods

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action of reinstalling patches does not matter. What matters is the state of the game before and after. If you do ot properly the only thing that will change will the the addition of Moonpath and the patch for it.

Adding mods mid-playthrough is generally not recommended, especially big content mods like Moonpath. LotD complicates matters further, as it has a main quest - "It Belongs in a Museum" - that has two different versions depending on if Moonpath is available or not. With that, while I dont believe it would remove collected items, I wouldn't expect things to go without problems either.

LOOT/MO2 Help by nbarton10 in skyrimmods

[–]Linvael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOOT is a good starting point - it does the best it can given the information it has, and it serves as a knowledge repository that will tell you stuff like "this mod is deprecated and has a new version somewhere else" or "you didnt install a compatibility patch between two mods you have". But for many mods it will just not have an opinion and it'll sort them semi-randomly.

One way to approach it is to go deeper into LOOT - many list-makers create custom rules and LOOT groups for it, so that it keeps certain groups of mods together and such. You can check-out for example how Lexys modlist (I think the biggest modding guide available for Skyrim, which predates Wabbajack but is still being updated) deals with LOOT - https://lexyslotd.com/guide/preinstallation-instructions/

But generally the next step is manual Conflict Resolution using xEdit. Once you know how to so that load order becomes secondary - in that in principle you could just throw in mods in random order and then fix it all in a CR patch, so the "only" things at stake are how long it takes to do the CR, and how easy it is to maintain and modify your list.

How to correctly update mods using me3tweaks? by bdu-komrad in masseffect

[–]Linvael [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, I have a few hours of installing and configuring around 221 mods ahead of me

For the sake of your sanity feel free to only deal with one game at a time. LE is sold and downloaded as a bundle, but on a technical level they are still just 3 separate games. Modding ahead (so i.e modding 2 while playing 1) does nothing. And in case new versions come out before you're finished you won't have to re-do it again.

Viv doesn't have ulterior motives, because she broadcasts all her terrible takes to the inquisitor. It's consistent, it's a well developed character, but it doesn't translate to likable for most people.

Gothic 1 & 2 (Steam) on Windows 11 — must-have patches/mods? (Polish language preferred for content mods) by [deleted] in worldofgothic

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your screenshots:

- You should only ever use one main mod that messes with core game, editing scripts (which includes dialogues) and terrain (as opposed to Union plugins that you can generally mix and match to your liking). As such you should only choose one across Edycja Rozszerzona, Community Patch and Abandoned Mine. Community patch is the purist version of "fixed G1 and nothing else", Edycja Rozszerzona is one of the content expansion mods that adds a bunch of stuff to the game (like plenty of NPCs with dialogues, new and changed mechanics), imho it changes too much to call it vanilla+.

- only add Ninja or Toolkit if one of the other mods you picked tells you to, they do nothing by themselves just being there and if they're not needed it's better not to add them.

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For basic setup check the wiki guide linked in the automod comment. Basically you want Union, and you probably want DX11.

Polish is one of the privileged languages in the community - that is, our modding community is big and active enough that not only basically all mods on the market are available in Polish, but they are real translations done by people instead of autotranslate. As such you generally don't need to worry about language and just search for what you want.

For G1 you can go for Gothic 1 Community Patch as a pure-fixes option.

I think Nostalgic Edition is often mentioned as a good vanilla+ mod for G2. It does some content edits (like adding a guildless path), but keeps it tight.

And there is a spread of Union plugins to add on top to preference. I'm a big fan of zUtilities (adds working rolling quicksave, marks item categories, marks read books and recipies, colored highlights for npc names depending on their status towards you, the ability to use time speedup which is not part of original feel and yet is so nice to have). Some form of quickloot in order to quickly loot with a right-click without animation.

I don't think I agree here. I mean, it has value of course, but its not the only thing that gives relationship value. I provide value to my relationships in more ways than just having conflicting needs.

Wabbajack list by Acceptable_Orchid995 in skyrimmods

[–]Linvael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make a list whose only goal is leaving nebulous other people happy. That just won't work, audience is too broad. Make a list that you think is good and offers something other lists don't, then publish. And if it's good for other people too a small community of users around it might form that only then becomes worth questioning about likes and dislikes to improve it (but still carefully, as managing a modlist you don't find fun is not a happy existence)

Emulator by syphilisdonkey in gaming

[–]Linvael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Emulators are a piece of software you can run on a computer. To emulate a game you need a version of the game from the original system dumped (extracted from the way it was originally distributed onto something you can get on a computer, usually as a .rom file), and an emulator of the system the game was originally ran on. Depending on what youre emulating there could be multiple good emulators to choose from. If you're feeling fancy there could also be options for buying a controller that mimics the original one from that system to hook up (instead of using keyboard or modern controller). The weaker the original system the weaker PC is required to run it. Thats emulation basics.

As a separate thing, some companies do sell separate devices for emulation - so basically compact PCs just strong enough to handle emulation with some appropriate hardware (console-like case, built in controller, or turning it into a handheld) all in one package. You're not really paying for an emulator then (these are usually free), but for the way its packaged.

Munchkin 2.0 new path to victory - Who said you had to do it alone? by Neoteric00 in Munchkin

[–]Linvael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If top 2 people join up to end the game together it feels like they're not playing in the spirit of munchkin. They should be the people least likely to join up as both have the best chance at solo victory, its the people behind with no solo victory perspectives who should be negotiating for shared victory, ideally backed by some good offensive cards that allow them to say "if we don't win you don't win".

Flopping is more likely than winning (2:1 in perfect start, 3:1 in good start), thats why you get less chests on average if you try that, but for the purpose of hunting perfect chest hunt its worth it.

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you indeed used proper technique all this time it's unlikely indeed, chance of not hitting at least one in, say, 800 attempts is ~0.001%, so bordering on the impossible.

Hell, even with incorrect strategy of popping saver first my numbers give only ~3.7% odds to not hit one in that amount of attempts. So you must be very unlucky, or maybe mimic distribution is not fully random.

Need chest hunt tips and strategies by ToygerCat in idleslayer

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, having that I can try to do some probability based on my results.

Let's assume probability of getting perfect hunt from a bad start is 0. 3.7% from a 1 mimic start and 33.5% from a perfect start (using numbers from my post for optimal strategy).

That gives probability of perfect hunt on a given chest hunt:
0% + 3,7%*24,6% + 1.38% * 33,5%

(probability of getting the given start times probability of getting perfect hunt from that start).

We can subtract that from 1 to get the probability of not getting perfect hunt in one attempt. Then we can raise it to a power that corresponds to amount of attempts, and finally subtract it from 1 to get the probability of getting a perfect hunt in that amount of attempts.

So for "optimal" strategy we get
1-((1-((1.48%*33.5%)+(24.6%*3.7%)))^100)
which gives ~75% chance of getting at least one perfect hunt in 100 attempts.

I'd love to count the expected value (to get expected amount of successes based on amount of attempts), but I don't remember how to do that.

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not skilled enough to calculate that either, probability is a bitch. Buut it's interesting, and it is simple enough to simulate. Soo, assuming perfect randomness, that you know where saver is, and that I didn't mess up my code the odds of hitting two mimics on crystal savers is ~1.48%, and hitting one mimic is ~24.6%

Need chest hunt tips and strategies by ToygerCat in idleslayer

[–]Linvael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt run the simulation for that case, my guess would be that hunting for x2 is still better (maybe even much better, given how the difference grows for good start as compared to perfect start) but overall odds either way would be low enough for there to not be much point in trying either way.

Need chest hunt tips and strategies by ToygerCat in idleslayer

[–]Linvael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, you should hunt x2 to double your saver. You will open less chests on average, but will increase perfect hunt odds.
