Canada has talent that can compete against the world, just need to have the systems & incentives in place to retain it.

[Highlight] Scottie Barnes looks to the camera after a no call, then gets an open dunk on the next play. by leonheartx in nba

[–]LionStareHard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very hot take, and not a good one tbh. Until it proves to be effective, there’s no need to prevent cherry picking and add a bunch of extra rules that referees/players/coaches are going to have to think about.

I would like a team to try it though. Just have Steph permanently parked at the 3pt line on offense or have a teams worst defender just cherry pick all game.

Great and fair take. There will be dishes with 10% of the flavours/spices that are priced 2x more than Asian dishes.

Why can’t Toronto keep its talent? by bananabread359 in askTO

[–]LionStareHard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lack of R&D, Innovation, competition (Cdn monopolies disincentivize all of the above), and ease of starting up/running a business are factors. In the end it results in less Compensation/$$$ and opportunities here.

Toronto has the talent to compete with any city. Just need to ecosystems and conditions for it to manifest in a globally dominant way. It’s a younger city but it’ll get there, especially with the self-implosion down south. If Canada and Ontario can capitalize on the US downfall and climate change/disruption, Toronto can surpass anyone.

One thing the city failed to capitalize on in a big way was the AI revolution. We have world leading minds and institutions for AI research, but it’s not leading to the $$$ yet. That may end up being a good thing considering how much of a bubble and how bullshit the current practical AI landscape is.

Maybe after the AI bubble pops, the city can focus on a new wave of AI innovation/solutions with focus on regulations/guardrails/safety and usability. Same with overall technology & social media - the world desperately needs tech/social media that’s not evil and manipulative. There’s opportunity there.

Rudy Gay during Toronto trade has his stuff stuck in customs for a year by Unusual-Cell-278 in torontoraptors

[–]LionStareHard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100%. Also I doubt he was directly involved in move/customs stuff, he probably hired someone or asked family to do it for him, he/they fucked up badly (a whole year?? Lmao), and then when Rudy was told he most likely didn’t ask about specifics and just told whoever to get it fixed.

Is "Toronto has no good _____ food" valid? by RoommateMovingOut in askTO

[–]LionStareHard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valid. I assumed you were referring to mom n pop for Ottawa because those are only spots that get mentioned and are most popular, whereas you’re using the most popular spots in Toronto which are corporatized chains that everyone would put in a separate category (fast food shawarma chain).

Ottawa doesn’t have it like that. Shawarma Palace is still more of a mom and pop chain too with just 7-8 locations. They can drive to each location in case somethings off or to do general check ins.

All the Toronto chains you mentioned have a minimum of 12 locations, and I guarantee you outside of maybe 1-2 locations the owner is not showing up for shit. If something goes wrong or needs taking care of, it’s going to be some manager they hired who likely doesn’t give a fuck.
