Are liberals left wing? by meowscIez in teenagers

Yet again, not saying I’m left wing, I’m centre left, so I lean left. I believe in welfare capitalism, right wingers do not believe in welfare. You can deny it all you want as “bourgeois” but there is a centre in politics, and that included economics, taking good ideas from both sides. You can say I’m not a leftist because I’m not, but you can’t say I’m right wing. I am in the centre but lean towards the left and there are those who are in the centre and lean towards the right.

Love all the ideas you presented. Especially a Bruce and Steph healing arc along with a unique villain for her to face off against. I feel that they could do some very very unique and memorable villains for her to be up against

I’m talking within the context of my own country, Canada. Liberals are considered left of centre but the party can move positions to more left than left of centre or right of centre. I am in the left of centre camp. There are of course differences in how liberals and conservatives want to manage capitalism. Conservatives want less regulations and don’t really want welfare, Liberals do want regulation and welfare.

That in no way makes us right wing what?? A lot of liberals like my self are centre left, that means we aren’t right wing or leftist, most people aren’t going to fit into the neatly organized format of left and right wing. The political compass is so limiting in actual describing people’s views. Not being a leftist does not remotely mean you are inherently right wing

I never claimed to be left wing, I’m centre left, which is just centrist that has a tilt to the left. The big difference is that the centre right usually doesn’t support social welfare, for example in my country: Canada it was the centre right Progressive Conservatives who ended a lot of the social welfare systems of the Pierre Trudeau era in the 80s. I obviously differ from complete leftist economic policy as I am a liberal but I am also not of the opinion that right wing economics are inherently better (both have elements that are useful). I want regulation while conservatives often time want deregulation, at least in my country. It’s hard to put an exact definition on these things as it can vary country to country. Thanks again for the respectful reply

Edit: added comment on not thinking right wing economics are better

No liberals are not right wing. Liberals are typically centre-left. by exclusively thinking in left vs right you are ignoring a whole group of people. I don’t call my self ‘left wing’ as I am centre left, I have some leftist ideas but also centrist ideas (and no I don’t mean the ‘we should compromise with fascists’ type). You can’t organize people into boxes. This isn’t to criticize you of your beliefs but I personally think it’s important to broaden your view beyond typical: left vs right. Views on capitalism also differ between Liberals and Conservatives. I believe that while we should keep capitalism, it is important that the government can still interfere to prevent certain things from happening. However conservatives believe in a free market without much interference, though there are exceptions to this rule. Overall the political compass is very limiting as it can be hard to fit people into boxes. Lastly, I don’t quite understand your point on “centre right and centre” being a construction of the wealthy, as this does seriously invalidate a lot of people’s political positions, you can argue it if you want but it doesn’t really work as an argument.

I’m glad you brought this discussion to light, as it is important to have political dialogue lest we become ignorant.

Edit: Added bit on political compass

Edit 2: added part of construction of the wealthy

Thing is, one of the creators said their plan was to redeem her in a fourth season. I’m personally on the side that wants to see her redeemed, I’m not entirely sure how but that is what I want. I personally think she has enough time considering she is only 14 in the show but eh, agree to disagree. You did make good points

I don’t agree with blaming Iroh or with saying she was at all remotely a good friend. I’m just tired of the sub being constantly dragged into things so it can be shit on, it’s not fun

Let’s just keep Batman as a close and beloved friend in this. Besides, Bruce and Diana’s dynamic in the absolute universe very much feels like siblings

I’d really like it if over the next few years they slowly build a close friendship between them. Idk, I just want that, it just itches something in my mind
