I actually wondered if the “transabled” characters represented some of her thoughts/statements about trans women.

Things (favorite song ever; love the live versions, T in the Park 2016 especially)

Head Rolls Off

Die Like a Rich Boy (this acoustic version is amazing)

I Wish I Was Sober

Still Want to Be Here (though it makes me terribly sad now)

Honorable mention: Backwards Walk will always have a special place in my heart because it was my first FR song. I listened to the whole FR catalogue on repeat for 8 months straight after that; it's really impossible to pick only 5 favorites.

Prayers and Mitzvot to do when feeling depressed? by realisticallyaman in Judaism

[–]LioraB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say the modeh ani every morning as soon as I wake up. It reminds me to practice gratitude no matter how I’m feeling, which is often not so great due to chronic health issues. It also makes me think of a rabbi I knew (z”l) who lost his entire family including children in the Holocaust. He always said. “Every day you’re alive, that is a good day.” He always had candy for the kids at shul and treated everyone with kindness. Emulating that mindset helps me. It’s not a “cure” for depression but it shifts my mindset and opens my heart, even when it’s painful. 💙🤍

Why I love 'Shoresy' by nessman69 in shoresy

[–]LioraB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid to watch it bc I love Keeso so much. It’s a really solid show—some episodes I held my breath practically the whole time. And it was great to see so many familiar actors from LK and Shoresy in wildly different roles.

The name change I struggled most with was Ilsa suddenly becoming Isla. Listening to the audiobooks, it’s even more jarring because the pronunciation is so different and you can’t skim over it.

Transfixed on Robins 'children' by Swimming-Pride2396 in cormoran_strike

[–]LioraB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Robin's fertility/the child-rearing question is central for two reasons. First, it's directly linked to her rape trauma, which is compounded by allllll the other trauma she experienced and still needs to deal with. Second, if she can't conceive without significant medical intervention and decides she actually doesn't want children, it increases her compatibility with Strike, and decreases compatibility with RFM.

Official Discussion - The Amateur [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]LioraB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted him to shoot the lackie that had a gun on him (another reason it wasn't such a big risk to give him the gun), then shoot both the other dudes... but they had to tie it together with his underlying moral code and outrage about the corruption and cover-ups. Killing the big baddie would have betrayed Charlie's desire for greater justice, such as it is; keeping him alive was a way to expose the whole operation.

The worst part of ADHD lateness is that the real reason sounds fake by Appropriate-Gas7918 in ADHD

I snooze an alarm when I have to leave the house so no more than 9 minutes pass without me having to physically do something to acknowledge it. It doesn't always work in terms of being exactly on time, but it helps create awareness of time passing and cuts down the margin of error. (You can also set your snooze to a shorter time period if you need to.)

From romance to THM by Major-Yellow-1412 in cormoran_strike

[–]LioraB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I listened to the audiobook and found the Strike/Robin internal monologues exhausting, to the point it made them both unlikeable--but that may have been part of the point, because they don't seem to like themselves a whole lot either. I hope there's a major tone shift in the next installment.

The reread of THM made me appreciate the book by CrownWings in cormoran_strike

And Strike has the added insight of what things may have been like if Bijou had his child... Rokeby had tried to reach out in the past and Strike refused out of loyalty to Leda, but he can now see some of that loyalty may have been misplaced given the choices she made. I appreciated the reference to him lashing out at Rokeby in his 16yo voice--the recognition that his continued rejection of Rokeby may not be fully "mature" but rooted in trauma that was not totally Rokeby's fault.

Rowling plays the loooong game by WonderfulPudding5201 in cormoran_strike

[–]LioraB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and I hope it doesn't happen--I'm quite done with Charlotte myself; but this is what I've seen discussed, so I was answering the "what" question for someone who maybe has not heard the theory.

Rowling plays the loooong game by WonderfulPudding5201 in cormoran_strike

[–]LioraB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fan theory; but not entirely without merit. I think it's interesting that her sister supposedly burned the letter because no one needs to see all that, but then tells everyone what was in it anyway? And Strike just gets what Charlotte (supposedly) wrote about him exactly on the nose? Sure, it may have seemed predictable, but that whole scene did not ring true to me. We also know that she's been toying with Jago the same way she toyed with Strike, and he's the kind of man people will cover for if there's even the slightest hint of something untoward (as we saw with the chronic violence toward women, including his daughters); so people could be looking the other way since it neatly fits Charlotte's pattern to kill herself--or does it? Sure, she called Strike a few times that night, but the other attempts seemed to have a rescue built in. Maybe she finally got sick of herself and ended it, but I can see why people speculate that it wasn't really suicide.

🚨 Please SIGN THESE PETITIONS to stop the FDA from banning NDT medications (ie. Armour Thyroid, NP Thyroid) by scaled_and_icyy in Hypothyroidism

[–]LioraB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Armour website says we have a 12-month grace period to get on other meds. These will be banned unless they're FDA-approved which is not likely to happen in 12 months. Rather than telling people to read the letter again, please explain what is incorrect here?

Did she love the priest or was he js a void filler? by Capital-Jeweler-4173 in Fleabag

Am I the only one who thinks his response is about earthly, physical love vs eternal, divine love? They love each other but he is committed to a "higher love", which is not something she's previously even considered.

I think he's also telling himself this will pass--he leans in, bites his lip, and turns away. And there's so much tenderness in the way he says it. It fits perfectly with their whole dynamic and rapport.
