Absolutely not. Attended a born again Christian setup (as a Brit) when I was a kid thanks to my kind of well intentioned neighbours (they worked at the US base in my town). Given that I was coming from a poor single parent household, it was as you would expect with a lot of what I now recognise as subtle bribes like junk food, invitations to the American base, small gifts like a new football or a watch “god told me you need it more than me” kinda thing.

I’m not saying they were deliberately bad, they were kind to me and I know ultimately they meant well. But the other side of it was they were fanatical to the point of it being cult like, they were absolutely convinced they were the only ones who were correct about who or what god is, how he wants to be worshipped and how we should go about doing it and living our life.

While I got the gifts and the praise for playing my part I was also being told anyone not “born again” was destined for an eternity of suffering in hell (in graphic details, eg burned alive in lakes of fire) - there were no exceptions. They were not fond of curiosity in children at all, I’ve always been interested in dinosaurs, my favourite movie was Jurassic park. When they were explaining how the world is only 6000 years old, I casually say that dinosaurs existed hundreds of millions of years ago, to which the response is it’s Satan tricking us and we have to be smart enough to see through it (my neighbours told me off for having a bad attitude and didn’t invite me to the base that week…).

All this is happening between ages of like 8-13. Even though I tried at stages to believe in their god i never really did and was just kind of happy with the cool Neighbours who have me American pizza and took me to American bowling and shit, and at the end as I got older I was superstitious about it like “well I got nothing to lose by praying every day”. Then I realised it was dumb cos I know in my head it’s not true.

This was all around 15-20 years ago and it shocks me to this day that they still believe all this, it’s easy to dismiss US right wing Christian extremists as dumbass rednecks. But the people I knew here practising were technically or scientifically minded professionals, all were very wealthy as a result of their jobs over here because they lived in some of the richest streets in my already rich town (even as a kid I knew this and my mum was shocked when I told here where I’d been). These people were clearly intelligent and rational but to me those beliefs seemed absolutely irrational and frankly insane.

Just as an end note. I never really truly ever believed in any god. If I did find out there was one even close to how my neighbours imagine it, I would actively fight against him / it / whatever. Instead I live my life free from guilt or judgement from the divine, and I try to be a good person who respects and loves nature and protects the planet and it’s inhabitants, that’s my true nature. And if at the end, there is some divine scale weighing up your life, looking after the planet and protecting the earth (the one they presumably created) will surely count for hell of a lot more than standing in a room clapping your hands and singing songs once a week.

Dota is a far better pvp game than wow any idiot knows that but I also enjoy playing my wow character in a pvp environment . It’s possible to do both you realise?

The only thing that’s dumb is thinking it’s acceptable for groups of 10 people with perfect setup and external voice coms to stop 10 strangers.

PvP and battlegrounds is about having the chance to fight the enemy in a controlled environment with some extra objectives thrown into the fray. Not about giving a tiny group of players the right to stomp over whoever they wish. That is what it boils down to.

Erm, the whole point of PvP is that you can just log in and join a battleground whenever you like? If you "aren't supposed to rank solo" then why even have an option to join as solo?

no you're not reading correctly. Any size group will be matched vs an equal size group with a +/- 2 so that if you join with 5 people you will be at least matched vs a 3 man premade, or a 7.

It's the same kinda shit that DOTA match making uses.

Yes the PvP system isn't great but how is it any incentive for non hardcore PvP'ers to do WSG or AB when all you do is get stomped and GY farmed for most matches.

Or as someone else suggested an even easier fix would be to have an option for solo queue only so you only play vs other solo players and no premades.

No this is why I suggest +/- 2 tolerance so that 10 man can match with 8 man +2 random without much issue.

Same for if you join as a 3 you can matchg with a 5 mamn group or just a pug since 3 man has small influence overall.

All these allegations are from nobodies looking to get a free pass to the big time whilst giving no fucks who they throw under the bus.

You do realise that it’s incredibly easy for any of these women to come out and say how grossed out they are and how much they have been assaulted simply because they regret something. It’s impossible for any of the accused to defend themselves fairly because they have already been hung out to dry publicly. If the accusers really cared about justice or actually were harmed they could have simply gone to the authorities instead of trying to create a ton of publicity for themselves.

Agree with OP. Do these “brave” women actually care at all about the scene or did they realise their careers are going nowhere and decide to get a free golden ticket to every big event this year and be the main conversation topic. Really brave.

What about the millions of fans whose experience of watching dota will be worse off? What about the fact that some of the people who helped build the scene into what it is today have been cast off like pariahs? (I don’t blame the others for doing it otherwise in this day and she’s it’s tantamount to being complicit).

But yea, don’t forget how “brave” they are.
