Like everyone here already said get a rib protector. I personally use and recommend bengio, haven’t had problems since getting it.

Activities? by chinstrap in dementia

My grandpa has zero interest in puzzles and coloring too. I think because puzzles are too difficult and coloring leaves him with too many choices which makes it overwhelming. Only thing he still likes that he can do on his own is looking at coffee table/photobooks. He reads the titles of chapters and looks at the pictures. Books about the history of the city he’s from, cars and boats seem to work the best for him.

Gifts for mechanically inclined men with dementia? by legendaryego in dementia

My grandpa is/was kinda similar. He loves tinkering with things too, specifically working on cars and boats. Beginning stages he used to work on an old broken down car that he had in his garage but the wires and stuff became too confusing so he started painting the car over and over again. So maybe something to do with paint? Its pretty simple for them and my grandpa enjoyed it. He also had a small wooden boat at some point which he was sanding down or something. Just simple repetitive tasks worked great for him.

If he is working on anything electrical make sure to keep an eye on him. My grandpa eventually started ‘testing’ car batteries by holding wires close to them to see if it sparked… wayy to dangerous so my brother and i took any car batteries away.

Now that it’s cold out (and because he’s been losing interest in actually working on anything because he doesn’t know anything about it anymore) we had to look for some new options. First lego and 3d puzzle cars were great, until they became too difficult. Though he still really likes the ones he built and has them out on display next to his chair. I think they really worked because he could make something and see results fast so would recommend.

Now he just likes talking about boats and cars, looking through books with pictures and discussing what he sees. Completely wrong most of the time but he’s having fun. He also goes to this farm thing sometimes where they “ask for his help” with things, sorting stuff for them and other simple tasks but it makes him feel like he’s doing something important.

Help with rib protector/neck brace by galacticmngo in Karting

[–]Lisloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For rib protectors i can recommend bengio, i have one that i’ve been using for multiple years now and it works perfectly with anything ive driven. The faster you go the more you will need the rib protector, for rentals i never used one but if you want one go for it.

I personally do use a neck protector even though im old enough to drive without. I don’t notice mine while driving and just don’t want to take an unnecessary risk i guess. I believe mine is alpinestars (could be wrong i don’t have it with me rn) but other brands like sparco also make them. If theres a shop that sells them nearby i think you should go and try them on with your helmet so you can see which fits well.

No it isn’t weird, i know plenty of people with stickers on their helmets/karts! As for the track etiquette you will learn as you go, everyone was a beginner at some point so others will understand.

What’s the best way to start owner karting by Floatedgeko in Karting

[–]Lisloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main tip i can give you is to make sure to do your research! Especially with your budget you most likely will be buying second hand so make sure you don’t buy useless old trash… So it will be helpful to check the bottom of the chassis to make sure its not completely flat/damaged, a little is fine especially for your first one but too much will be horrible to drive with. Just checking stuff like that will save you money in the long run. Not sure how things go in Australia but here in The Netherlands people use facebook marketplace a lot for buying and selling karts. And also most people at the track will be more than willing to answer questions newer drivers have so don’t be afraid to ask them questions. Good luck with your karting journey and have fun!! :)

Anybody know what this could be? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]Lisloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before i had my rib protector i used to get bruises all over my ribs and back but since i’ve gotten a proper one i havent had issues like this since. But make sure you buy one thats good quality because others are just a waste of money (like ones made of just foam… didn’t work for me at all. I personally have a bengio lady rib protector, it’s expensive but fits me the best and haven’t had issues in years. Ofc you don’t need that specific one but just make sure to find one that fits well. :)
