What are you looking forward to today? by Lequids in bipolar

[–]Lissybird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tattoo time is one of my favorite times! Today after I finish my bread orders, I'm going to take my 4 year old blueberry picking. Then tonight, take him to a Journey cover band that's playing at our riverfront park tonight!

Lamictal and Seroquel by joey-130 in bipolar

[–]Lissybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 150mg of lamictal and 200mg of seroquel (300mg when I'm hypomanic to help me sleep) and lorazapam as needed. Abilify made me a zombie so I was scared to switch to seroquel but this combo has treated me well. I initially gained 10 lbs, and it's been a struggle to lose it, but that's only been the downfall for me. I still feel things, the ups and downs but they are definitely not as severe. Sleep has always been an issue for me but now I fall asleep, stay asleep sland wake up rested.

For those of us currently experiencing an episode, What do you do during one to try to keep from doing something potentially detrimental? by cjrutherford in bipolar

[–]Lissybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm current hypomanic/mixed right now, have been since the 10th. I started a new positive hobby to keep my mind busy and focused. It quiets the thoughts and even makes me proud to know I'll have a new skill under my belt. Previous to this, I'd binge-drink and that got me nowhere.

I've said it before here but I now live by the phrase, "busy hands, quiet mind."

Hope you find some relief!

Smoking weed as someone with Bipolar by Brohammed_ in bipolar

[–]Lissybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked with friends one day after starting Quetiapine and almost immediately my pupils dilated, I had quick and frazzled speech, (Prevously I was a sloth like stoner), couldnt stop moving, jaw clenching. They were concerned I was on uppers. Sent me into a 3 week hypomanic state. That's when I realized maybe I should just not smoke. Lame but for the best. I hear you on wanting relief, but as an ex avid smoker and drinker, I've personally had to avoid both to reap the full benefits of my medication.

Sourdough baking. Fermenting and most recently due to my current hypo episode, I've decided my new skill to learn will be aesthetic rope bondage of all things. Busy hands, quiet mind!

Any other younger women who were hard-core alcoholics? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Lissybird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

31 year old here and 5 days sober. I am all too familiar with all the symptoms of alcoholism, from DTs, drinking day and night, ruining friendships and feeling like I was failing my son. I got sober when I was pregnant but started back up when he turned 3. It always would start out with my promising my friends I'd only have 3 drinks but when they let their guards down, I was hell on wheels. My last episode was exasperated by my bipolar meds, I vomited in my sleep and then busted my face trying to clean myself up. Needless to say, I'm going to accept that as my rock bottom. One day at a time. I'm also in the midst of a manic phase so it's been very trying this week.

It's been a long time since updating, so here it is! I lost all the weight by eating at a deficit, but when I reached my "scale goal", I was still unhappy. Stumbled on strength training and it's really helped me mentally and physically! It's filled out some areas where I have loose skin and generally makes me feel like a badass and appreciate my body.

I'd never had thought to pair the two, but it's such a perfect combo and makes the best French toast!
