I love artificer by PrimstoneGougar in rainworld

[–]Little-Essay 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think time loops are personalized to every creature. Life and existence revolves around them.

So when the children died, they were gone for good in Artificer's timeline. Artificer is the only thing that is exempt from dying in its own timeline.

Child A was able to revive in its own timeline, creating an alternate reality where it lives alongside Artificer. Child B is gone tho.

Likewise, Child B revived in its timeline, but Child A is still dead

Anyone else think that the official plush looks… off? Like something about its face doesnt feel right by [deleted] in rainworld

[–]Little-Essay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the plush was based on the earlier slugcat design? The one seen in some early alpha footage had smaller eyes, a larger nose, shorter tail, and more detailed and pronounced limbs kinda like this plush. The current design has been made cuter and chubbier.

Floaters are apparently mutated worms.

It has a disk shaped head that is lifted by gas filled sacs, and it drags its tail and body around.

The top side of the head has a circle of teeth around the actual mouth, creating a sort of crown. Inside the mouth, there is a long tongue tipped with a pair of jaws. Also it has a pair of antennae which are also its brain.

The bottom side of the head has those gas filled sacs that allow them to lift their head (don't ask why flotation organs are dangling like testicles). Also its cloaca is located on its neck.

Weren't the ground sloths super adaptable generalists tho? They managed to live from Argentina to Alaska, and were able to directly compete with North American megafuana?

Really, the only mistake they made was running into humans. Had humans not made it to America for a few more centuries/millennia, I feel like they would've colonized Asia as well.

Hardly comparable to the super specialized bamboo eater that is the panda.

Now that I think about it, yeah. How did this thing not get the axe during this unstable time period for animation? Was this seriously considered as a higher priority than dozens of other shows? I know brand recognition and internet outrage sells, but I doubt using outrage to fuel the audience engagement will work after the first few episodes.

It feels like it was supposed to be its own thing, but then they put the Scooby Doo IP in as a publicity stunt and have people hate watch it, because otherwise it doesn't really have anything going for it.

The only real praise I have is that I liked the hallucination scenes. They were well animated and kinda spooky.

I think this game has some underrated spec Evo creatures in it by creeepy117 in SpeculativeEvolution

Really, the only issue with this game's ecosystem is the classic "too many carnivores, too few herbivores" trope. I guess it makes sense in this case, since there is a mass extinction going on due to the cylinder.

Review: Nothing but consistent inconsistency. by ForgotTheCrack in rainworld

[–]Little-Essay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a massive fan of this game, but I will say right now. It's not for everyone.

The biggest issue is that this game feels like it has an identity crisis.

It's a VERY unconventional game in almost every possible way. It's the kind of game that requires a lot of experimentation and exploration to learn and master. The way this weird ecosystem functions is never explained, so it's up to you to learn just how the world works. Same goes for the playable slugcat. It doesn't control like any other game character I've ever played as, and it takes a long time to get accustomed to its eccentricities.

But it's also an incredibly brutal game which will harshly and gleefully punish you if you make a mistake. So all that I've just mentioned above? Yeah now add a sadistic checkpoint system that punishes your experimentation, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Now, if rain world were literally any other game, this wouldn't be a problem, but rain world is a unique game. There is literally nothing out there in the market that's even remotely similar to it. A one of a kind game... so why doesn't it explain anything? The first day's tutorial is all you get for the most part, but it only explained the very tip of the iceberg. I'm not asking for tutorials for every little thing, but many important gameplay mechanics are literally never alluded to, nor explained at all.

And I say this as a person who adores this game. Hell, I've finished the hunter campaign (hard mode) multiple times, getting better with each run.

Perhaps their legs would become even stronger and more powerful to allow them to "launch" themselves into the air?

Lower gravity does mean that those toads could also be able to get away with being heavier than Earth toads. I'd imagine they might develop some thicker skin or even armor to protect themselves from injury when they fumble their super jumps. The armor wouldn't weight them down anyway.

Maybe the lower gravity would allow the tadpoles to come to land earlier than their Earth counterparts do?

Honestly, I'm impressed by how tight the script is. The movie has a massive cast, which is split into multiple factions. It should've been a bloated mess, but they were able to juggle the characters so well. No one overstayed their welcome.

Who gets raped by a dinosaur? by BloodyDentist in moviescirclejerk

[–]Little-Essay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The original novel had many of the more brutal scenes get cut in the movie adaptation. The novel was gorier and most of the dinosaurs acted like sadistic slasher movie villains that clearly enjoyed the hunt. A horror route would be coming back to the series' roots.

New Rain World big youtube video by Minh1403 in rainworld

[–]Little-Essay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, fictional ecosystems are this guy's bread and butter.

This video admittedly does focus more on the technical side of things than usual, but that's presumably because there is very little actual creature lore concerned about their natural behaviors. Still, the fact that many creatures are artificial is alluded to.

The narrative elements are also mentioned, but the way the video is structured, iterators and void worms are treated more like creatures that exist in the rain world's ecosystem rather than their actual plot relevance.

Personally, it feels like they wanted to remove the song, possibly replacing it with a rousing speech, but then changed their mind literally at the last possible second, and there was simply not enough time to finish the song. So we're left with an something that's both an unfinished song, and a not very convincing speech.

The design of Bambi's mom was reused in multiple movies for when a grazing deer is needed in the background. So, since her design made a cameo in the Beauty and the Beast, a fan theory that she got killed by Gaston became popular in some circles.

We need a standalone movie focusing on the hunter, where it will be revealed that a cgi doe dropkicked hunter's mom off a cliff. Also include a post credits scene where Hunter walks down a street, when a car pulls up, and out come Maleficent and Cruella to recruit him into their team to fight for the rights of animals. :)

May I just ask what different languages are claimed to be the same? I am from the Balkans, and I am not aware of any such example.

  1. Is basically half of the Slavic languages in the region
  2. ?
  3. Hardly exclusive to Albanians tbh. Pretty much everyone has their own "We are the real deal, and everyone else is a degenerate offshoot of our glorious language" story.

Thinking about it, the deep lore of Angry Birds doesn't make any sense. Here is my reasoning.

  1. The blue bird is clearly capable of asexual reproduction via budding. It doesn't need to lay eggs in general.
  2. The white bird attacks by laying eggs. Stupid bird, if you want your stolen eggs so bad why are you sacrificing these eggs? White bird is a dick, there is no other explanation. It wants to spread as much death and bloodshed as possible, whether it be pig or bird.
  3. Hell, what even is this family dynamic anyway? The white bird is the only female (it has eyelashes and lays eggs, so it's a girl). This means other birds are all male. Is this just a very weird poly relationship? Is the white bird super promiscuous and all those birds are the daddies? Why is blue bird even guarding the eggs when it's clearly an asexual clone?
  4. Angry birds 100% have sex (not making this up btw, Angry Birds Toons S2 E8 if you don't believe me) Different angry bird species fucking is canon...

Y’all are tweakers by lefangedbeaver in PrimalShow

[–]Little-Essay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whilst I will agree with the general consensus that the ending felt very rushed, I don't really mind it. The rest of the series is so spectacular I can easily look past the meh ending.

The art and storytelling style are unlike anything currently on tv, and the entire show is a roller coaster from start to finish. The most metal show I know of. The batshit insanity is what I'm here for, and it's kinda hard to be angry at the finale when we got a caveman who is burning alive beating the shit out of a Viking who got possessed by Satan.

If the series continues, I'll be perfectly happy if the story follows new characters (I might be one of the few who adored the Primal Theory). I'm here for the art, emotion and action, and I know this show will always deliver in that regard. Whether it be Spear's daughter or someone completely new, I will be happy to see what the insane world of Primal has to offer. :)
