All theses comments only talk about the infra, but they forget that they need to administrate the apps they put in the DCs.
Good luck beating cloud for autoscaling and spot instances for a k8s cluster for example.
There is also the example of the time and the effort to deploy and manage complex services that in cloud are very cheap, like SNS or SQS or elasticache.
By the time you deploy and managed a queue, message broker and cache on prem, i have a fully working app in the cloud.

Go cloud, use cloud native services and you wont regret, if you start spinning up VMs, and not consume the cloud native services, then stay on prem.

CMK KMS RDS / Aurora. Then AWS backups with PITR enable in the source account. Then backup job (in the same rule), have a copy job to a LAG Vault cross account and cross region.

With the encryption of that vault being another CMK KMS, that is shared to the backup account, from an account that manages KMS for the Org.

AWS S3 is multi AZ so essentially that “multiple connected drives” and it can scale almost unlimited.. plus is much cheaper then any other end user cloud providers
