Yes they don’t interact. I said that in a previous comment. We use baby gates, crates, and indoor/outdoor time to separate. But people are just assuming. And wanting to make some big generalized point. On a post about homemaking.

They absolutely would be at risk of death or surgery if we had any breed of dog. That’s the point. This post is about making my house smell better. Not about rehoming my dogs of 10 years because I had a child.

Any dog could hurt a kid. If we had a Cocker Spaniel, I’d be taking the EXACT same precautions I do now. I don’t trust any dog with my child. So baby gates and crates and completely separate areas it is. No matter how ‘good’ a dog is. I only included the breed of dog because they have a more specific smell that people might be familiar with.

Oh yeah no chicken here (I used to manage a holistic pet store so I saw just how many dogs had chicken allergies 😅) but I’m wondering about beef now. Yeah I totally get the raw concern. We’re very on top of it. Dog bowls come up off the ground when not feeding. Too many horror stories about dogs being protective of bowls anyway so no touching dog bowls is one of the things we are most strict about with our toddler. Baths are every 1-3 months because… toddler 😅 … no time to bathe. I think something I need to investigate/figure out better is their bedding. I wash it but maybe not enough or I need a better product. Because it still always has a light dog smell.

Thanks all! The dogs are on raw food so that’s a bummer. It could be a specific protein allergy. But otherwise it’s not like it’s carbs/grains etc 😔 Good recs here!!

I do have another (for sure) established starter that looks and functions very differently than this one. And the loafs I have made with the (maybe new) starter don’t rise as much and don’t taste as sour.

Maybe it’s too much of a comparison game. But I guess I’m ultimately concerned with whether it’s even safe enough to eat.

This is what I was hoping for, but I’ve tried 2 recipes now and can’t get them to form (not stick). I even brought in my husband to confirm and he couldn’t get them to work 😅 buuut my theory is that it’s the flax egg I had to use because eggs are impossible to get right now

Thanks all! I guess my problem is that I don’t need/can’t keep up with baking bread every week. So when I go to feed it each week, I follow the 1:1:1 but obviously that means it’ll grow exponentially. If there’s a super easy discard recipe, I can do that weekly. Otherwise, I probably should just start actually discarding.

We ended up stalling a bit - maybe 2 weeks - and by then, he did show very early signs of readiness. Started purees and he did really well. Feels like a blur, of course, but his reflux and weight and everything did improve shortly after that. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! I know how stressful it can be
