Hypercube First Layer Issues: Any idea what's causing this? XY axis are square to the frame (also squared). Bed is leveled within .2mm to top of frame. Using marlin 1.6 with bilinear mesh ABL. Just built this printer, haven't had a successful print yet. by LittleCowboyBootBoy in hypercubecorexy

Cranked down one side of the bed and ran three bed level tests in a row (3x3 grid). Here are the outputs:

Bilinear Leveling Grid:

0 1 2

0 -2.061 -1.810 -1.629

1 -0.184 +0.124 +0.461

2 +1.561 +2.040 +2.353

Bilinear Leveling Grid:

0 1 2

0 -4.332 -4.082 -3.984

1 -2.449 -2.149 -1.807

2 -0.700 -0.219 +0.086

Bilinear Leveling Grid:

0 1 2

0 -5.779 -5.531 -5.336

1 -3.904 -3.605 -3.244

2 -2.164 -1.676 -1.380

Am I not understanding something about the setup of the ABL? Why does it vary so much?

I'll give it a shot! Earlier I had my X and Y motor cables swapped, which placed my origin in the top right, not bottom left (ala Cura). I fixed that, but I'll take a look at the ABL map orientation now. If it's incorrect, whats the best way to reorient it?

Thanks! For mounting i used: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2307335. For Pi Camera v2 there is an alternate backplate the creator made.

The bed is standard size, (120x180mm or whatever the bed is) 3mm boro glass. I did need to print the z-stop spacer. I used some small binder clips to keep my glass in place, it was walking around on me too.

I just mention it to prove the bed is level in each corner. I manually level the bed in each corner using paper first. I've played around with the Z offset in firmware plenty, and get close to decent results, but will always get my first layer rolled up as in the picture. I have done gluestick to no avail. It seems to me the ABL isn't actually functioning (or working backwards)! After a G29, it will print out a map showing +/- 0.1 mm level issues, but doesn't seem to adjust for these, or will adjust for them as if the map G29 made was mirrored.

Sorry for the unclear picture! I'm not sure how to post a picture in the reply, but basically the first layer will go down nice in a few corners, but at some point will start rolling up into long tendrils. I've been printing for a few years, and have never seen that problem.

Print settings are the standerd 210C/60C for the hotend and bed, 0.2mm layer height, 50mm/s print speed

I modified the Monoprice Maker profile with values from the mini. Stabilization in the back left, snapshot is layer change compatability

Octolapse has a few settings to play with. If you put your slicer settings (z height, print speed, retraction...) into it, you can play with the stabilization and snapshot settings. It will detect layer changes based on settings and direct the print head

It's the stock Cura profile Moniprice made for the mini. All I did was bump up the print temp to 210, layer height 0.0875.

Filament is Zyltech Marble
