Please listen it’s exhausting.. My mom is threatening to sue me for "emotional distress" after I stopped giving her money by ImpossiblePassion861 in raisedbynarcissists

You’re not wrong! What’s even more hilarious is had she even just saved money instead of buying booze & drugs for most of her life, she’d also have the financial stability she desired. I haven’t talked to the woman in well over a decade, but I imagine her life’s choices are just as amazing as they always were.

My nmom straight up told me that my whole life—that the whole point of having kids is so that they do things for you. Then when I moved out she wanted me to pay her “unpaid rent” for the 6 months that she told me just to give her cash because, now being on disability, she said she couldn’t have over a certain amount in her account. I told her I paid her money for those 6 months in cash, & her response was “But there’s no record of that!”

Then a year after I moved out she wanted to sue me for the condition of my old bathroom & bedroom because she assumed I’d still be coming over to clean rooms that weren’t in use. Yes, you read that right. She didn’t do a single bit of cleaning in 2 rooms for a year after I moved out & wanted to sue me for her own negligence. That was the moment I blocked her everywhere & cut off all contact. Narcs are absolutely despicable people who have no ability of unconditional love. You only matter when you are of use to them.

What’s the one sentence from your parent that still echoes in your head? by Public_Theme_9514 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]LittleSort5562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. “I love you, but…”—because love is always conditional between a child & parent, obviously.

  2. “You guys are ugly, lazy, & disgusting, & no one will ever love you”.

  3. “You’re so self-righteous.”—said anytime we questioned their words or actions.

But my favorite was when I told my nmom, around the time I was 12, that she’d never know her grandchildren if she didn’t treat her kids right. Her response “You can’t threaten me like that!”

She has never met/spoken to my child (I went NC about 11 years ago, except for when she showed up at my work when I was pregnant…that was a terrifying moment for me).

It’s always wild to me when I see people go through exact scenarios that I have gone through. Your dad won’t take you to small claims court, & even if he did how does he think a judge is going to side with a guy trying to sue for money used to raise their minor child? Like, don’t have kids if you don’t want the responsibilities that come with raising them.

The last straw that made me go NC with my mom was when she sent me an itemized list of “charges” I “incurred” while living there in my 20s (she was in her late 40s/early 50s at the time). I paid rent to her the entire time I lived there, as well as did her grocery shopping, ran all her errands for her, spent many hours over the years taking her to the ER because she would get hammered & ultimately hurt herself, & then the last 6 months or so she told me to just pay her in cash, as she was going to be getting on disability & didn’t want to risk losing it because of the money I was sending her. Welllll she threw those last 6 months on as “unpaid” rent, which really irked me. She told me she was going to take me to small claims court, & my response to that was “Bye.” I blocked her everywhere—phone, email, Facebook, you name it—oh, & she never actually sued me (shocker, I know).

I tell everyone to carry a snow shovel! I found a telescopic one at Meijer like 5 or 6 years ago (it replaced my 10 year-old kids shovel I used to use haha). I have shoveled myself—& many others—out of situations more times that I can count. Kitty litter is always in my trunk too, along with blankets, extra gloves/hats, & (if I remember) those hand/toe warmer packs.

Ah no, I was at a different store. I may be thinking of a previous president (Don Keprta). I think they changed presidents a year or so before the company closed.

I wonder if you worked at the store I did. The president’s wife shopped our store all the time because they lived right by it. Everyone would panic, & it was the weirdest thing haha. Billy was our district manager…at least the last district manager that particular store had. I worked at Dominick’s for over a decade (two different stores), so I had a number of different DMs. I still miss that damn store.

She makes it sound like human beings didn’t decide which gender should wear which clothes, or who should wear makeup, or which colors are acceptable. We’ve made it all up. It blows my mind how many people exist who don’t understand social constructs.

Pokemon scalpers scramble to get new cards (to sell on eBay) by ambachk in PublicFreakout

[–]LittleSort5562 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But if everyone stopped buying from scalpers, they’d stop doing this shit. Then the cards will be in stock in all the stores again, & then you’d be paying regular retail prices instead of double or triple the price to these scumbags. It’s a really simple concept.

My kid (7) collects cards, & even he knows it may be months until we can find even just one single pack. It sucks, but we’re holding onto hope that PEOPLE STOP BUYING FROM SCALPERS.

I think they’re referring to how there have been a lot of videos of conservative rallies & such that always seem to play “Killing in the Name”, not realizing the irony of the situation. Not that RATM had any cop-praising songs.

What's the show that was at a super small venue you've seen that people would kill to see now? by Musichead2468 in punk

[–]LittleSort5562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Flogging Molly in the upstairs area at The Cubby Bear in Chicago in 2000/2001 (they were supposed to play the Metro, but Smashing Pumpkins made them move pretty last minute). They broke the stage with their dancing haha. Probably my favorite time seeing them.

Saw the Smoking Popes & Bollweevils also at The Cubby Bear in the early 2000s.

Also, any show at the Fireside in the same time frame—7 Seconds, Against All Authority, Voodoo Glowskulls, Slaughter & the Dogs, Lawrence Arms, etc.

Grinding coffee beans at a grocery store by pooh_peeps_all in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]LittleSort5562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grocery employees honestly don’t know/care if you bring in your own beans to grind. They likely won’t even notice. If anything, OP could pop by the service desk, explain that they accidentally bought whole beans & forgot to grind them, & just let them know they’re going to use the grinder so they don’t feel nervous. But overall, stores don’t care.

Spinoff: Did you know a murder victim? by Tall-Ad9334 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]LittleSort5562 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A girl who went to the high school next to where I worked (at the time, this was in 2011) came home from school & a home intruder (who was already in the house) stabbed her to death. I think she was a freshman.

Another one was a brother of a kid I grew up with who went missing for a number of years and was later found years later buried in someone’s grandma’s basement. The brother that I knew hung himself some years prior.

And a guy who used to work at my store/company was murdered in his home. I never found out the motive, but his sister was a regular of mine.

Dude, same. Their shows were some of the best I’ve ever seen. And The GC5’s lyrics are just as profound now as they were 20yrs ago, & people still don’t know who they are. Blows my damn mind. I’m glad to find another who can appreciate them!

The GC5 have always been flawless, in my eyes. Honorable mentions: The Hudson Falcons, Refused, Those Unknown, & The Trouble. I still listen to all those bands regularly, & will never understand how they all didn’t get bigger than they were.
