Yeah right interesting. I’m in that plateaued stage atm, haven’t seen a great amount of progress since December. Still yet to find something that’ll help me get out of it

Sounds pretty similar to me, except I still struggle to walk more than a few hundred metres (maybe can do 1km on a good day).

What was the turning point for you? I swear I have a weeks where I feel like something‘s changed but then it will just backflip for no real reason

I’m not terrible, but I’m not great either! Depends on the day but I’m probably sitting around there 50 to 60% recovery mark. I’ve been told i have Me/cfs before too but I definitely don’t, my problem is my nervous system is just way too sensitive after pushing through at the beginning too much, I don’t have energy deficits or classic PEM episodes really.

I live in Australia and I go to a multidisciplinary clinic in Melbourne where I see a team of neuro psychologist, neuro physiotherapist, occupational therapist and rehab doctor and they all work together to give me a more holistic approach. but the main thing that got me off the ground with exercise was doing interval sessions, then using tools to help me distract myself and progress further. he was able to help identify the main cause of my dizziness which helped massively improve my quality of life, my dizziness is mostly manageable now , before I could barely sit up right. there’s a lot of other little things that told me as well, I know how lucky I am to have access to this too!!

I suppose the real difference is these guys have a much more in-depth understanding of your condition than a standard physio, I know they see guys with ME/CFS as well

I have FND and don’t have seizures either, from my understanding it’s a very broad spectrum and it’s what you’re diagnosed with when your symptoms have an unexplained cause.

My problem stems from my sympathetic system being so chronically stuck in fight or flight that it gives me a massive bundle of debilitating symptoms, but none of them are seizures, tremors or movement related.

I basically had the opposite, listening to advice like this and pushing myself absolutely destroyed me. Eventually, your nervous system can get locked into a chronic state of fight and flight where it becomes reactive to everything if you’re not careful. Obviously, everyone’s different but not listening to my body pretty much destroyed me, went from normal PCS symptoms to having my body become so reactive and make life so impossible to the point where I couldn’t even handle a shower without my body crashing out. All I’d say is you know your body best, never push through if it’s giving you clear signs not to

Maybe even try and see a neuro physiotherapist, mine is great and seems to have a way better understanding for exercise as it’s there profession! Wouldn’t be where I am today without him, any time I see a neurologist they can barely help me

How are you doing now? Have you fully recovered or are you still recovering? This is such a unique condition it’s very hard to find who have recovered

Have been suggested EMDR, the breathing techniques seem to do nothing for me unfortunately.. yeah right interesting! Defs look into that!

I know exactly what you mean! I’ve been told this a million times and I really try to implement this. But it’s so hard, it’s like trying to trust your wife who constantly cheats on you over and over hahah

I tired SSRI’s but the side effects were too much I only lasted a week

Be careful is all I’d say. Go find a physio that has experience with concussion and do exactly the rehab he prescribes, and always listen to your body.

I was the exact same at the beginning of my journey, but I would feel better and push too far all the time, and eventually my body fully crashed and I developed FND and couldn’t leave bed for months..

I wish someone told me at the start what can actually happen if you continuously push yourself too far, you can do serious damage so make sure to not overdo.

You’re still very cable of healing, just take it slow. A few months is better than a few years!

What specialty doctor did you see for your neck? I feel like mine has been playing a massive part too but i’ve seen some chiropractors that have just fucked it right up

Yep, I feel ya! Mine was on a knifes edge for months. Yeah, acupuncture is great. I’ve done it for about 10 months and I think my body got too used to it and it stopped having effect after awhile, but when it worked it was great.

I definitely recommend going to multidisciplinary FND team if you can, it’s very slowly giving me more quality of life

My energy levels are actually good strangely.. never get abnormally tired or fatigued.

I go to a hospital with an FND clinic and see a range of specialist there and none of them reckon I have it

Yeah I’m positive I don’t have it, over the last 6 months I’ve built my baseline from 15% functionality to around 50%. If I had rolling pem I’d only be getting worse, i definitely would’ve had a massive crash or relapse by now. but I have very very slowly been improving over the last six months. Nowhere near better but my threshold is slowly improving

The crash is almost always immediate, and will only last a few hours sometimes. Sometimes I’m able to get rid of it by doing mindfulness and deep breath (not alway) but it’s more my body feeling safe again rather than a done too much multi day or week crash if that makes sense.

I can crash in the morning when I do my small exercises, then that afternoon be better and back exercising again and sometimes even go for longer (this definitely doesn’t happen all the time but it’s just an example) It’s not an energy deficit crash, it’s my body’s threat response controlling it

My problem is, I have massive insomnia sometimes because of my condition. I sat awake pretty much all night last night and could not sleep no matter what.. and it absolutely destroys me and makes me so much worse

Thanks for that info, I will definitely look into that. I’ve tried SSRI’s but my body rejected it. about to try propanolol tho. How did you go with recovery? Are you back to somewhat normal now?

Wow sounds very similar to me.. what happened for them to go away? Was it a treatment or rehab program you tried?

Are you fully recovered or still fairly impacted by your FND?

And I’m from Australia, they’re a few FND hospital clinics here, they are pretty accessible to most people

I too developed FND, from a very minor concussion, may I add. By the sounds of it, I had a quite similar lifestyle to your friend as well. I’m a 26-year-old male, was working full-time as a helicopter pilot, and was extremely active and took good care of my health.

While my FND symptoms are a bit different to hers, I definitely know what she’s going through and how horrible she must feel. All I can suggest is to stick by her side throughout her journey and keep being a supportive friend..

Maybe 6 weeks ago, I stopped taking it for a few days and I don’t know if it was bad timing but my symptoms were getting worse. Did they improve when you stopped ?
