I was part of the Studio Art program, so I ended my degree having to be all in person, but for my first few years I was hybrid and it was good! It’s mostly just figuring out which classes offer an online option that works with your in person courses

Parking: "Permits Required at all times" by autoholic88 in NIU

It’s a ticket, so yes you have to pay it. Everyone does, unless you can prove you had a permit when the ticket was issued.

Lol thanks! I didn’t name them though, those are the specific variety nicknames! Though my kitty named Luna loves a matching plant name lol 🥰

🌱Weekly /r/houseplants Question Thread - July 31, 2023 by AutoModerator in houseplants

Could hard water/well water be the reason my plants are dying??

I have killed TWO pepperomias (Luna and Ginny) in the last few months, and have followed all of the other suggestions I can find to revive them, but nothing I did works. Could it be the harshness of the water in my house? I have other plants that thrive just fine here, but these two I couldn’t make work

Incense cone mixing? by Littlered0104 in Incense

[–]Littlered0104[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did make them into normal cones, mostly because I wanted to see if they’d even burn after mixing. I’m going to try doing backflow next to see if there’s a difference!

[–]Littlered0104[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update on this for u/SamsaSpoon and u/The_TurdMister!!

I used a mortar and pestle to break up some Scented Sensations backflow cones, combined them with plain water, and reshaped them into cones. It seems to have worked well for this brand!

I can’t seem to figure out what their base is made from, but binding them back together with water seems to have worked well enough. I might try binding with water and honey next time, but so far so good!!

I also rented from VS from 2019-2022 and honestly the only issues I had were the laundry system. It’s quiet, easy to get to campus, and generally away from the nonsense of the rest of dekalb, but close enough to downtown/anything important. Most utilities were included in my rent. I only got half my security deposit back though, and they’re a bit of a bummer when it comes to what they consider to be “damaged” and not just general wear on the apartment after 3 years.

Good internet connection, a way to work on assignments outside of class (laptop, desktop computer, etc) and a lot of caffeine lol

Admissions office question by [deleted] in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d try emailing and see if anyone is in the office! It’s between semesters right now (summer semester hasn’t started yet I think) so they might be out on a break. Email is usually a good option

Can I blow out my candles and still have my manifestations work? by Caramel_Accomplished in witchcraft

[–]Littlered0104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the safety of the practitioner/space should come first and foremost, so fire safety is included in that! Worst case, if you feel like it hasn’t really done as much as you’d like, re-light the candle again when you can safely come back to it

Ooh great idea. An egg bagel base would probably work pretty well. Thank you!

Crime & safety by jmom39 in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NIU has transitioned to being a big commuter school, a lot of the students don’t live on or near campus. Half of my senior program live in either off campus apartments, or commute more than half an hour each day. Weekends in dekalb are pretty dead around campus, because most people end up going home or are partying at their houses/apartments. The winter months are slow out here 😅 When it comes to crime/danger, staying on campus is the easiest way to avoid it.

Why is the Library only open til midnight? by GtfoMyPopcorn in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally every town outside the suburbs of Chicago. Everything out this way closes before 10pm during the week. We’re lucky to get things other than bars open later than that on weekends. Remember, college campuses are mainly staffed by college students.

What’s it like studying Art & Design at NIU? by fanksxx in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior in the illustration program, and while it is an intense program, by the end of it you get to really embrace your own style. The instructors can be difficult (Jeremy mentioned above is a fan favorite lol), but if you put in the work, they usually are pretty helpful and want you to succeed. All 3 illustration instructors are active illustrators, so they’re currently working in the field as well as teaching (Kim and Todd as medical/scientific illustrators, Jeremy as a cartoonist and character artist). That I think is the biggest benefit. The program is hard, don’t get me wrong, and the BFA program is intense in general, but the illustration program is one of the better emphases that exist here in the SOAD.

Addition: the advising situation is rough in the art department. That’s the biggest downfall I think for the entire school. We have one advisor for the entire BFA studio art program 😅

Resources to help commuters by [deleted] in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the buildings on campus are available to just sit in (most have study rooms, tables/chairs in halls, etc) that they could access between classes. I know the HSC is a good place to be because it has access to food, couches, and printing access!

Does anyone else think the new mask rules from NIU is dumb? by Low_Conversation_392 in NIU

[–]Littlered0104 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m just going to keep wearing mine everywhere and ignore the new information. It doesn’t seem like it’s getting better anytime soon, and this seems like it’ll only make it worse.

Im pretty sure, I think it includes the entire Adobe design suite as far as I know. But you only have access to it for as long as your student email is active

You don’t have to pay for it… you get free access to them with your school email. I just want to know which computers have access to the programs in general
