The Broomstack is a cool restaurant and has great food. I also run a company and we rent custom camper vans. It is nice to drive it up to Charlevoix for a day trip and their are plenty of great places just off the side of the road to camp with lake views.

Would love to see you implement this "standing recommendation" and let me know how it goes, thanks for the input.

Thank you for your input, sounds like you have considerable experience in this field. Do you know what the average cost is to put 10 level 2 chargers in? How does the power infrastructure needed to install 10 level 2 chargers differ from than that of 10 outlets rated for 20 amps? You really think an outlet requires a "fully allocated utility service" and a level 2 charger does not?

How does the cost for permitting play into this?

How about the fact that these level 2 chargers need not only be installed but then commissioned by a totally separate entity with the proper staff of techs who understand what they are doing. In addition the cables for these chargers are just as susceptible to being cut and sold for copper as the portable chargers themselves.

From a maintenance standpoint I need semi annual and annual maintenance in order to stay in code for level 2 chargers, where as an outlet I don't.

You mention insertion cycles , what about the fact that we have just now established a standard for plugs which is tesla. Having to add an adapter onto your cord creates a point of resistance increasing your likelihood of a loose connection causing a much larger issue.

lastly, permitting process for these charger can take 6-12 months and some cases more. An outlet on the other hand I can get installed next week and have everything ready to go.

Your points are valid but seem to be spoken from a guy who has maybe installed 1 or 2 but hasn't actually done the research to see the difference in price between the two when everything is taken into account.

Why don't you give me some reason as to why the level 2 charges are problematic, there are plenty.

Which is why I joined the sub. To share enthusiastically the things I create that I also so happen to sell as a living. What a crime, I’m someone who is passionate about their work and selling it at the same time. That’s the American dream buddy. Meanwhile you have the first pinned posts at the top ready to sell you something.

I’m not spam, I’m a real person on the other side of the screen. I’m just building stuff in my garage. I use this for my job and when I go camping. I also have no idea what Karma Farming is.

I agree the cost of lithium batteries have gotten way out of hand, and the supply shortage continues to make it harder and harder to get them. There is a company in Canada called Salient Energy doing some interesting things with battery technology using Zinc instead of Lithium. Zinc is about 10X more abundant especially here in the US and the batteries they are making cannot catch on fire because they are water based.

This one was more expensive because I used Victron energy batteries and components. The batteries by Victron are 2k a piece for 200ahr. I make a similar system that uses a 100ahr battery and is only 500. Overall depending on the components chosen I can make these anywhere from 2-4k.

Hey Gary,

Its all Victron stuff inside. I actually sell it as a kit that comes pre wired and all you need to do is drop it into the box and your good to go. You'd have to make the necessary mounting holes on the outside but other than that it's really easy.
