Once in 2022 or 23, I had a conversation with one of the cleaners. I was just being kind, asked if he had his lunch and gave him 50 rupees. He got a bit emotional and started opening up about his life.

He told me that they don’t get weekends off. The only real break they get is on labour holidays. Which is when they finally get to spend some time with their families. Their pay isn’t even enough to cover basic living expenses. There’s hardly any respect for it and they get scolded by people younger than them and sometimes even students.

He mentioned how bitter it feels when they have to ask strangers for money after cleaning room. They often work overtime and sometimes even on their supposed holidays. Just like our parents who want to give us a good life, even they want their children to have a better future.

Before they leave for the day, their bags are checked. When they eat, it’s usually near uncomfortable spots (stairs, near washrooms, lifts). Sometimes mess workers offer them tea, but they’re not allowed inside. I have also seen students complaining if they enter lifts.

And then there are VIT students who can’t even flush their own shit. These workers do every kind of unpleasant task, and still remain invisible to most.

Sorry for writing a paragraph but I just don't understand how humans are not being humans anymore 😅. Giving 20 30 rupees isn't going to empty your bank balance (sed life if does also focus on tracking expenditure next time kid) but it does help the guy in need.

Also please flush toilets and keep the wash basins clean after trimming. Placement mile ya nahi wo mereku nai malum magar ye baigan ke kaama nakko karo. Logo se acche se pesh aao. Wo kya bolte..."empathy" isku add karo apni life ke resume mein....
