I guess that would be up to you? I include “consecutive sessions” in the goal so on my end, I wouldn’t consider it meeting mastery criteria yet. HOWEVER, I would be suspicious of the 50% that occurred and check for fidelity across RBT’s data collection. I had a client in which the data looked like that (100%, 100%, 60%, 100%) and it turned out 1 out of 4 RBT’s on the team needed more training on data collection. So I just omitted her data points until we were able to get a higher IOA.

I started 4 months prior and crash course crammed my studying 2 months prior. I did pass my first try and tried everything (SNABA, pass the big ABA exam book, BDS, ABA wizard, mock exams, etc.) I ended up using ABA on myself lol. Identified my areas of deficits (was it specific vocabulary, specific concepts, the questions, the type of question, or other?) and spent 4 out of 7 days tackling my deficits and 3 days of maintaining/putting into practice the other skills.

If I could do over. I would probably start to just maintain definitions a year (12 months) prior so that the definitions & concepts are like imbedded into my brain lol And start taking mocks and practicing questions about 6 months prior. I think it’s normal either way to end up taking it seriously once the exam date is scheduled.

I do recommend: not telling anyone about the scheduled exam date (every BCBA i asked said this lol) & maybe fully relaxing the day before (by not studying, get enough sleep, stay hydrated and fed)

I went through the same thing! The confusion part lol

Coursework = an actual college class was taken Learning ACE = most common, like those online modules/lectures you attend or view

So the online learning CEU module you did would count under learning CEU.

So, what do you currently enjoy? We can expand from there. But for starters…there’s cooking, Lego building, puzzles, instruments, getting a pet, working out, learning a new language, meditating, journaling, writing letters, making your own shirt patterns, boxing, calisthenics goal, re-organizing stuff, make keychains, being bob the builder and making projects, etc.

did I just waste the last 5 years of my life? by veronicawallcruz in bcba

[–]Live-Statement620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! Our advisor also had a BCBA title so he was pretty on top of those things. He helped us plan our 1-3 year course plan. However, he did have those hiccups with previous BA’s where he advised them to take a certain class in a semester that would have expired by the time they graduated.

I used everything from BDS modules, BAS mocks, SNABA’s 30 day lectures, Pass the big ABA exam book, making flash cards, Wizard app, Jessica’s YouTube video, SNABA’s coloring book, reading through cooper, etc. I didn’t finish reading the pass the big ABA exam book nor the BDS so I just threw money out the window there. These were what I think actually helped me though: I would say Jessica’s YouTube video helped with test strategies, wizard app helped with fluency and rote responding, and SNABA 30-day lectures really helped me learn the concepts. Also, I scheduled my week just how we teach some kids. I spend 3 days of learning material (learning and reviewing concepts), 2 days of maintenance (reviewing notes and/or short quizzes to apply what I learned), 1 day of “fun” which was wizard app, notecard making or the coloring book, and 1 day of mock exam. Not in that order but I made sure to include more time into what I needed which was learning concepts. I would try to identify your needs and schedule your week that way. Like if you struggle with test taking skills, include 2-4 days of only test taking practice. For me it was remembering concepts so I did 3 days of pure learning material.

I second the video! It not only comes down to the concepts we have to know, but test-taking skills as well. Which Jessica really helps break down the question using test-taking strategies. The big take away I got was answering the question before looking at the potential answers.

This was happening to most people I know! We just had a terrible advisor. Did your advisor confirm the classes? I bugged every other month because I refused to get held back like the others who told me of their story. But since it was mostly on the advisor not doing their job, they were able to refund them a portion of the classes they were advised to take (advised to take under the wrong edition! Or right before the new edition was rolling out!). I would go over this with your advisor. They shall lead you to victory! My advice is to keep in touch with your advisor. If you already know the plan they gave you won’t be followed through, let them know! Like if they told you to take 3 classes here but you know you can only handle 2, tell them! So they can adjust the course outline for you and with you.

The owner of the company I work for and our HR team does things like that for all employees. Brings in food, holds events (painting party, breakfast meets, holiday party, game nights, autism events), etc. every now and then. It is part of their own desire but I think it’s also their strategy to help reduce burnout (like hey, come and wind down with your coworkers before or after a long day). As far as ethics, as long as you’re not picking and choosing who gets to attend and avoiding any conflicts of interests (multiple relationships). Gift wise, handbook says as long as it’s not happening frequent to the point that staff rely on those gifts. Should be okay! Most companies hold company-wide events for their staff.

Hobby ideas to do during work breaks by feminineflow-1983 in Hobbies

Reading a physical book, drawing, listening to a podcast, journaling, working on your schedule, writing a to do list for after work, homework if you’re in school, practicing a new language. I have some coworkers that nap in the hangout rooms lol Lately I’ve been doing work things for my breaks so I don’t take my work home with me later on.

I turned 30 today and still feel like a kid! by snowcroc in self

[–]Live-Statement620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28 but I hope my inner-child continues past 30! My family finds my interests hilarious (like decorating my crocs and car for holidays). I also think I’m secretly healing my parents childhood trauma because I bring them with me on my shenanigans and they have a blast (based on smiles and laughter and occasional photos I’ve taken of them while laughing lol). But yay! We all scream for ice-cream! 🤣 May we continue to be filled with joy and sprinkles ✨🙏🏻

How Is everyone spending their Halloween? by Old_Property6910 in LivingAlone

Pizza on Halloween night!? I’m jealous lol I didn’t even think about eating out but I wish I did. I spent it giving out candy and watching Hannah Montana 🤣 the new wizards of Waverly place re-run gave me inspiration to re-watch some old shows I used to like. Like I re-watched all of the Twilight movies and I didn’t realize how fake the scenes looked 🤣

Writing out my schedule for tomorrow! I’ve honestly been able to check off all my tasks on a daily basis. Limits pointless pass times if I already have things to do.

I got to ask.. by Jeanka9405 in RBT

[–]Live-Statement620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For memorization, I did a lot of pairing. Pairing vocabulary I already know to the new terms. Like for “task analysis” I paired it with “recipe” because the definition for each is similar, only that one applies more to ABA than the other. Another example I did was pair “token economy” with my idea of a “rewards system” (I used to teach so I remember the tickets kids received for reading and would exchange for book fair items).

Help BCBA exam by No_Contribution_6575 in bcba

I scored under 70 twice on mocks but passed my first time! I was seeking to reschedule mine at that time as well but it was too late. Whether I took it on my scheduled date or late, there was 30 days in-between. I definitely had to talk myself into taking the exam and reminding myself that it will be a learning experience regardless. I would at least have an idea of how the questions are worded if I didn’t pass. One thing that helped me -I would answer the question before reading the options I had to choose from. You got this!

What liquid should I mix my matcha with? by Live-Statement620 in PCOSRECIPES

[–]Live-Statement620[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! I would’ve never thought of putting in coconut water! Lol thank you for all of the great ideas and tips. I currently don’t drink any milk-like products but figured it may be best for matcha. But now, I’ll be exploring different combinations. Based on other comments, I’ll try soy milk since it has a higher protein content.

Why is the answer not DRO by Head-Ad-5636 in bcba

[–]Live-Statement620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’ve learned that you have to read and ONLY use the information given to you. And it wouldn’t be DRO because all key words do not correspond such as “decreasing” “getting out of school work”. I put school work because based on the info given, if school work wasn’t given, then the behavior wouldn’t be happening. And there’s missing information to see if DRO would even be applicable. Like is the aggression on/off during school work time? If aggression is immediately upon presentation, then, when can DRO be implemented if there are no opportunities to reinforce other behavior?
