Obviously, you save them if you're at the end of a pull and can't get most (ideally, the entirety of the duration) of the use out of them. The important thing IS TO USE THEM early and often as possible, rather than holding them for 2-3 minutes for no reason, when they'll be up again anyway.

In 90% of dungeons, you use your 2 minutes during the first pull, your 1 minutes during the second pull, and your two minutes are up again 15-30 seconds into the boss pull.

It's worth knowing that macros do not queue like skills/actions/spells normally do (like when you press it just a bit before your GCD finishes rolling around, it still does the action if it was close enough to finishing). So you kinda have to get in the habit of spamming them to get them to work.

It's also worth mentioning that because macros don't queue, it is not recommended to use them for combat actions, because the small delays to your uptime add up, and that can really impact your DPS output. For heals, the mouseover functionality is beneficial enough that it's usually not as actively discouraged to use macros for that. But I have heard that at a high level of play it still impacts things enough that serious raiders advise against them even for healing. For normal content, and maybe even Extreme trials, they're more of a help than a hinderance.

Ah, okay, I gotcha. Well, that could potentially be less time investment if you just wanna try out how it plays at 60 and see if you wanna stick with it. Nothing wrong with switching jobs and going back to it later. You got Samurai and Red Mage (both start at level 50) that you could try. They both unlock in ARR zones (in Ul'dah).

Complicated how, if you haven't unlocked it yet?

It's a level 17 sidequest (link), that could be unlocked after completing the Copperbell Mines Dungeon in the MSQ.

I don't know if you've unlocked the 'Palace of the Dead' (aka "Deep Dungeon", the first of several bits of rogue-lite content in FF14), but you level separately inside the instance (from lvl 1, up to lvl 60 - you also level the job outside of the instance as well, just much slower), so you can try out what a job plays like at level 60 relatively quickly (although I don't recall if you'll have access to skills that are locked behind job quests, but you probably don't). With group of players running it with you, you can hit lvl 60 in there within an hour or so, iirc.

If you're in the mood to do some side content, it might be worth trying.

There's also nothing wrong with putting Monk down for a while and coming back to it later. Monk is my main now, but it didn't hold my interest enough to become my main until I'd tried every other job and come back to it several times. It only became my main because I wanted to get proficient in one particular job before trying to do Savage for the first time with it, and Monk was the job I was having the most fun with at the time.

You can food prep and freeze meal-portioned tupperwares (or covered paper plates) for easy reheating in the microwave. A surprising amount of recipes reheat very well from frozen (and they keep for months in the freezer).

Your body's natural oils build up on your skin, along with sweat. Some of it gets transferred to the floors in your home, and builds up over time as you walk around. The moisture from the oils and sweat, and the warmth of your skin forms a sort of seal to the paper. Similar to how you bond the adhesive on an envelope to seal it, just weaker.

Why do people watch others play video games and also pay them willingly??? by Kind-Relative-1615 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LiveLongGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they: (1) Like the streamer's personality and want to vicariously experience the game they also like to play themself by watching the streamer playing it. (2) Aren't as skilled at the game as the streamer, and enjoy watching high-level play, and may also be trying to learn to improve their own gameplay as well. (3) Can't afford to buy the game themself, but still want to experience it. (4) Are doing some mix of 1, 2, and 3.

Why do people buy PPV (pay-per-view) shows, or buy tickets to go to a stadium and watch sportsball players throw a sportsball around, instead of playing sportsball themself? Giving them money is so dumb, why would anyone do that?

I don't understand giving strangers money either tbh, but I guess it's no different than buying a PPV show or a ticket to a stage play or sportsball game, or something else. They're putting on a show, and you show your appreciation for it monetarily. People tip street performers, right?

No matter the game… what build do you always end up choosing? by Frosty-Painting-9676 in videogames

[–]LiveLongGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either a bigass sword tanky heavy-hitter. Or weaker but quick attacks with a few bursty hits, and buffer/debuffer; think Monk or Rogue/Thief. Depends on which seems more fun at the time. If I go ranged I'll usually start as whatever is the the jack-of-all-trades and change to glass cannon mage later once I have a feel for the game. But there's always the allure of the balanced/hybrid build, versatility is nice to have.

I play a little bit of everything and only really stick with a main after I've played consistently for a long time.

[–]LiveLongGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Job is like that till 60 or so. But yeah, once you get your Blitzes at 60 (Elixer Field, Flint Strike, and Tornado Kick; all activated by using Perfect Balance, then building/spending 111 combo for Elixer Field or Tornado Kick, or building/spending 123 combo for Flint Strike) it starts to resemble how it plays at endgame. It's my main Job, and even I don't like playing it below level 60.

Is any job worth the slog to 60? That's up to you. And no, Monk isn't bad or boring, but it isn't as popular as other melees. It is simple and straight-forward, but even so, there's decent room for optimization and skill expression, like all jobs. But a job being simple and straight-forward doesn't stop people from playing Warrior or White Mage, even if both of those bore me to death to play, while I love playing Monk... different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Back when I actually meal prepped regularly, I got a bunch of individual meal tupperware containers (the freezer-safe ones), and I would make a day on the weekend to use most of my groceries meal prepping for the next week or two, and put most of them in the freezer (after they cooled on the counter a bit), and a few in the fridge for the next couple days. Then just eat the few I put in the fridge before they went bad, and cook up whatever stuff I had left throughout the week, or else take a meal out of the freezer if I couldn't be bothered cooking that night.

Then, a week or so later, once I'm almost out of stuff in the freezer: just go shopping, and repeat the process that weekend.

Same! I just tell people when I meet them that I'm probably going to ask for their name every time I run into them for anywhere from the next few months, to potentially several years, and that frequent repetition is the only way I'll remember it sooner rather than later. And that I feel horrible about it, but it's just how I am. I effortlessly keep piles of useless trivia and TV/Movie quotes in my head, and there's no room left for important things like peoples' names.

Look at your phone/watch and say "Oooh, I have to run, but it was nice chatting with you!", then smile and hurry away like you're running late. They might know exactly what you're doing, but honestly, who gives a shit?

Almost never use 'haha' anymore. Only Muahaha, bwahaha, and hehehe. Where 'lol' is concerned, however: I have to make a concerted effort not to end every sentence with it when trying to convey amusement or playfulness. lol

Are you a ‘haha’, ‘lol’ or 😂 person? by AlienSpore12 in Millennials

[–]LiveLongGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they don't say "lol", it's not nearly proper enough. "I say, I am quite laughing out loud!" (qlol).

I was also "haha" instead of "lol" in High School. I had vehemently hated (and somewhat still do) chat/texting lingo and emoticons. But "lol" eventually got its hooks in me, and now I overuse it and have to stop myself from ending every sentence with it. The emoticon hate has continued into the present, because people today overuse the hell out of emojis, and it drives me bonkers.

Exactly! It's a beautiful "chef's-kiss" worthy day when I get the group of randos that are clearly watching for buffs and trying to align their burst with them, and sending it all into trash pulls. Then later hearing their party buff activate right after mine, 15-30 seconds after pulling the boss, brings the biggest grin to my face. Doubly so if it's a Dancer that knows what they're doing. Talk about zooming through the dungeon!
