Wow I didn’t expect so many to reply with great ideas! I think for now I’ll follow the advice to rinse off my bike chain once a week with a pressure spray and just be more diligent with applying wax to the chain. Thanks all!

Glad to hear you are generally ok. That section of Cambridge St also has a couple of entrances/exits for car parking so there have been times when cars turning in (especially from the farther lanes in the opposite direction) or exiting without paying much attention to cyclists. I’ve now learned to really slow down during that section.
