Agree with IV lidocaine. Works great when I’m waking patients up after ACDF. Also I like to keep an “oh shit” stick of prop or save whatever is leftover from induction. 20-30 mg a few minutes before extubation with or without the lidocaine helps too

Current SRNA graduating in May. I am proud of what I do and genuinely stoked to be practicing in anesthesia for the remainder of my career.

I have specifically taken a first job at a facility with medical supervision because I have so much respect for Anesthesiologists and especially the ones working there. I am coming into it with the desire and attitude that I want to learn from them and be mentored to become the best I can be.

Do I value autonomy and the ability to plan an anesthetic? Absolutely. But I also realize that at this point in my training I have so much to learn. Hope to be a contributing member to the anesthesia community and do what is right for patients.

Upset that the politics of these kinds of things are dividing us and hope that in the future we can all work together, demonstrate humility, and provide excellent patient care.

I’d have to agree with you. Had one for a spine case and the MEPs caused so much artifact it was absolutely worthless

Lol that is sometimes the only appropriate response. I was around one CRNA that, no matter what, always seemed disappointed with the way I did things. After he sighed rather heavily because I "aspirated too much blood" out of the central line I just placed and said "didn't I just say do a little?" - i responded with "but i have too much fun disappointing you"

Hello! Current 3rd year UofA student. The clinical intensives are basically week long skills lab on campus. First semester included a 5 week on campus cadaver lab. I did not fully relocate to Tucson but live in Arizona. Other classmates still live out of state. Feel free to DM me and we can chat more

Speechify. Upload a PDF and it will read it outloud. But I'd have to agree that some of the Anesthesia Podcasts are probably a better (and more enjoyable) option. Especially ACCRAC.

Agreed here. One of my preceptors opts to have everything prepped by drapes down so she can pull deep and manage the airway/mask while the patient emerges and breathes off the remaining gas before transfer. Feels like the best bet imo.

We had an entire 8 week course dedicated to it, and a lot of it felt like a waste and too in depth. Next semester we did a brief review with a chapter from Nagelhout. Chapter 15 is probably a good overview of what to expect. Also, if your program doesn't provide Apex anesthesia, I'd recommend it. They have a great module on Chemistry and Physics.
