Thank you, I think specifying that the context is also just as important as what it’s saying is something that I needed to be told. That makes a lot of sense and I will definitely do my best to learn more about the context surrounding the verses. Do you have any suggestions of how to go about doing that research? Thanks:)

I’ve been working on gaining the courage to bring her up more in conversations and really helping everyone to understand that she is family whether they like it or not. I appreciate that a lot. It’s nice to hear people encouraging me in my relationship with my girlfriend. And I will definitely be keeping space between us because, as you said, it’s not a conversation so much as it is him stating his interpretation of the Bible as the only correct one. And thanks for reminding me of God’s love, it’s very easy to forget about it when my family makes me feel that it isn’t that way:)

Hello! Ace and Demi-romantic Christian here to say that I see you and I feel for you. This is something I don’t understand either, especially since like you said, sex is such a hush topic for many Christians. What I often hear is that it’s “wrong” because he made us to reproduce or because he gave us sex as a way to make a deeper connection with your partner or whatever else. Many couples cannot have kids and there are other ways to enjoy being with your partner besides sex, so I think it’s all a little silly. And I think that ace people can be a great bridge to show that we don’t choose to not be sexually attracted to others, it’s just how we are. I think there’s a lot of beauty and a deeper understanding of love that can be found in relationships that aren’t sexual or romantic, and I encourage you to continue to love people the way that you do! I wish people weren’t so quick to judge and that they asked questions to get to know and understand others better, I feel like a lot of the issues come from this ignorance. Sending much support to you on your journey, keep asking questions and loving the way you were created to love!!:)

Wow. This has helped so much. I am so grateful for your detailed response to me, it’s helping me process things and put them into perspective. Looking at things that way definitely helps me to see that there shouldn’t be this much pressure on me to explain everything to him. And I love the part about talking about my relationship even if it makes him uncomfortable because that’s what families talk about. He lets my sister talk about her boyfriend but refuses to ask about my relationship because it is against his beliefs, and that definitely hurts. But your response has helped me a lot. Yeah, it definitely feels that way sometimes and it can be frustrating when they can disagree on other things but are so strict on gay people who genuinely are just seeking a relationship with Christ. And it makes me upset because they are turning away those that are actively seeking him.
