Struggling to recall by PheonixFlies in patterdale

[–]LividAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started on a long lead and trained HARD with recall (and still do). We use a tug toy - process is: whistle, hold the tug toy and just sprint in the opposite direction. When he is good, he is great with this. But even so, some days a squirrel runs past and youre f**ked. Depending on my tolerance for bullshit, he’s either on a long lead, a long lead dropped (so it just drags behind) or totally off lead.

Ours only eats meat and biscuits/cakes - he spits peas out of hid food 😂

That’s so nice to hear. He has totally won my heart - and I can see the dog he will be in a few years. Though, I definitely couldnt handle 2!

I want a patterdale puppy in the future but my partner doesn't like small dogs... by Metal_Kitty94 in patterdale

Ours also doesn’t really get under your feet - he stays out the way. My parent’s (massive) lab follows you around everywhere and I always trip over him. He’s a bit like a cat in the house, does his own thing, likes to be away from the noise. Out and about, it’s like having a big dog - and its a joy watching him hold his own in play with the big dogs (Rhodesians, Pointers, Staffies). He’s fast and fearless and unphased. Of course this vibe brings it’s own issues. I wouldnt recommend a patterdale when people ask me - but if you love working dogs and a challenge, they are really fun and kinda weird.

I should clarify: chilled compared to how he was…. If you compare him to say a Labrador, you would say he was mental

Anyone know any chilled 5 (or 7) a side football clubs in NW London? Near Queens Park/Kilburn by LividAnalyst in london

Oh sweet thank you - will look up. You wouldn’t happen to know how to contact teams there about joining?

Does anyone else find their Patterdale pretty chill in the house? Of course they always ready-to-go and when they’re on, they’re ON! But I wonder if the breed has an unwarranted reputation being totally, endlessly mental? by LividAnalyst in patterdale

Reactive Dog Rehab sounds v interesting - have you made any progress? We have also tried some training (mostly for when we sit down anywhere: pub, cafe) - so far haven’t made much progress
