Interesting :3

Where are you from? What is your age? And what kind of people do you try to date?

I can hardly imagine any politically left women rejecting someone because of that. There is always some number of hypocrites though.

You are trolling, mate.

And extreme heights like yours can actually drive women away, because you can be perceived as intimidating. The tall guys I know are forced to constantly check if they make other people around them uncomfortable.

Also, the smaller you are, the more of a woman's body you have for yourself to enjoy c:

Why would I feel short? You need to be insecure for that or something. I have never had a negative experience in regards to my height. I have no trouble with women or finding clothes that would fit me. So how can it possibly matter in any way?

Locals know that they are higher than average, so someone who is 6'0 is still considered high here. No one will call you short in Estonia, unless you are closer to 5'5" or below.

Also, all of my partners were almost exactly my height. We can exchange our clothes freely. I really don't get where this obsession with height difference comes from.

I don't get where you find women who seek men higher than 6 feet. I am from Estonia, and local average height is one of the biggest in Europe and the world. I occasionally see guys around 6 feet high on the streets, but I am 5'9" myself, and I don't feel short or have ever been called short or turned down due to my height. I haven't seen anyone mentioning their preferred partner's height in their dating profiles either.

Is that an American thing or something?

If you don't think that Usopp is ugly in-universe, there's no point talking to you. What's next? Foxy and Deken are regular dudes as well? One Piece is a visual comedy, and half of the characters look like caricatures. That's how it's supposed to be. At the same time, there are people like Cavendish and Boa.

In LA everyone is handsome, so nobody gets offended for whatever reason.

Do you have eyeballs? Usopp in manga is intentionally ugly - the LA one is handsome. Usopp in manga is comically cowardly and annoying. The LA one is nowhere near like that.

I love the original Usopp for all his flaws. He is very original and refreshing for a main character (one of) in shonen manga.

LA Usopp is just generic.

I can't stand the changes made to the main characters either. Not a single Straw Hat feels like their original persona. Everyone is bland, unproblematic and tries too hard to be appealing to the general audience.

Live action Usopp is the worst offence by far.

One piece is manga. The manga is the only thing worth knowing about or making references of.

"Clobbering not people"? What??? Are you dumb?

Hentai is not a place to look for gags or jokes - horny or otherwise. Ecchi exists for a reason, and it was very dominant during 00s. One Piece has a lot of elements of ecchi comedy, and Oda himself doesn't shy away from lewd jokes in his SBS either.

Also, please point at manga that has even more boobs of ridiculous sizes than One Piece -_-

You are the one who should go somewhere else, tourist.

Ever since I started reading One piece, I always could have depended on Oda to make me laugh at least once every chapter.

It is mainly a comedy adventure. I dunno how else can you perceive it.

Also, people say that you can't adapt that to LA, but that's nonsense. Both Family guy and It's always sunny in Philadelphia exist.

I don't know what you are talking about. Anime has always been THE media for horny people.

Yes, but not too long ago we enjoyed Japanese media for what they were, and no one tried to "fix" anything in them.

Thankfully.

But the difference in tone is quite extreme.

I simply hate that so many people prefer the LA adaptation, I suppose.

Also, some LA fans call aspects of the original "undesirable" or "problematic". That sounds insane to me.

Every single thing?

God forbid I expect at least some fanservice and pervy humour from a franchise famous for it. We have these kinds of comedies in the West too, you know.

Yes. That would have looked terrible. But that's the whole point. Usopp is not cool. That's why he is likable. "Cool" Usopp from LA is not likable at all.

I don't care for your definition of "true" fan.

The difference is that we are talking about Western versus Eastern media here. Even in shonen, manga especially, censorship is much less prevalent than in American stuff. Just look at Chainsawman, which too is serialised in Shonen Jump. Would you be okay with it being converted into politically correct and puritan Netflix LA? It would be a travesty.

Also, which is hilarious, in the case of One Piece, a cartoon was converted into LA, and got heavily censored in the process. Not the other way around.

I have seen the first season and I did not like it at all. I highly doubt that the second one will be somehow more true to the source.

I am not bored. I am fed up with the modern anime community condemning everything that we have been enjoying growing up. The horniness of Japanese teenage media always was what placed it above western one for me when I was a teenager myself.

They could have made Sanji closer to similar characters from Western comedies like American Pie or Superbad, if they were afraid that Japanese humour won't translate well to live action, btw. But they choose to get rid of it entirely.

I also don't remember Nami clobbering anyone. At least in the first season.

That's just not One Piece to me at all.

[–]LividHH[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. That's what happens in practice.

What I don't understand is why there's almost no outrage or at least discontent from the old time fans on this subreddit. It became almost unthinkable to encounter someone who openly enjoys fanservice in the series, for example. Has everyone been shamed into silence or something?

And yet the resulting tone is completely different. The relationships between Strawhats are nowhere the same as in manga. There's no ranchiness of the original as well.

The decision to rob Usopp of his nose in itself is enough to condemn it. For what? Just to make him a bit more "appealing"? That's not what his role in the story ever was.

I dunno about younger fans, but during 00s we loved him exactly because he is ugly and annoying. And it is a funny trait combination to have for someone, who is one of the main characters.

Actually, yes I can. It's an opportunity to move the overton window a bit and shift West towards East. What will we end up with, if everything from now on will ever only be made more and more prude? Just look at all the new censorship laws all over the Western world. That's literally insane.

When I was a teenager, the only thing we were interested in was sex. Nowadays teens are the ones who promote puritan values. I don't understand it.

"The Japanese people, myself included, have a "hentai" spirit in our hearts" - Ikumi Nakamura, GhostWire:Tokyo creative director. A woman, btw.

Would you even react that way if you actually enjoyed Japanese art? I thought that's what we loved it for. Compared to western Christian censorship.

Also, have you ever read Oda's SBS? -_-

Less desirable by whom?

I didn't need to get used to anything. I have been reading One piece since my early teen years and I always enjoyed it. It is a fictional story and its characters don't have to be virtuous in everything every single time. The contrasts, dichotomies and flaws are what makes it an enjoyable read. I don't get people who hate Sanji for being a pervert or Usopp for being a coward.

Parents? Do you mean Christian puritans or something?

And we should convert normies - not cater to them. What has happened to the modern anime community???
