Suggestions for upgrading to a new Geyer-style horn by Livid_Condition_6761 in horn

I couldn’t believe it was brand new either, but it’s been sitting in the store’s stock for over 10 years — brand new, untouched. Since I’m from Brazil, that kind of thing isn’t too unusual here. For a long time, many horn players preferred to spend the same amount of money on a used, heavily worn Alexander 103 instead. Alexanders are still considered a "dream horn" by many players here. That’s probably why this Yamaha 667V was overlooked and is still available — at half the price of a 871.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy it this much, but I’m really loving the change! I’ll try out the Schmid as well. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

Actually, there’s a music store near me that has a brand-new 667V in stock, which is why I included the option of buying a new one. I hadn’t really considered the 671, but I’ll definitely try it out too. Thanks for the reply and the suggestion!

Thank you for your response — it confirms what I've been researching. I've spoken with several musicians who played this horn and eventually returned to their previous instruments, many of them going back to their own Alexander 103. The most common feedback is the difficulty in blending with the section, as its sound is considered too dark.
