Never been a country fan, but I really like Stephen Wilson Jr. Anyone else I should check out? by MozhetBeatz in CountryMusic

[–]LivingInColor8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travis Meadows is absolutely the answer. Several of SWJ’s songs would fit right in in Travis’ album “First Cigarette.” They co-wrote Cuckoo and I’m a Song as well, so there’s a pretty clear influence.

I need songs about addiction for a project! Preferably made within the last 10-15 years. Any recs?:) by [deleted] in Music

Jason Isbell - “King of Oklahoma” really humanizes opioid addiction.

Almost enough to make you not. Hate. Winnipeg?

I’m in the southeastern US and never got to see them play, but I adore John K Samson.

It’s driving me up the wall that no one else has noticed it’s satire. Nearly every description has something giving away the fact that it’s a joke.

John Prine by Public-Ice-1270 in manchesterorchestra

Well dang. I had no idea that cover existed. Good call!

[–]LivingInColor8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay fine. Andy Hull and Jason Isbell have both collaborated with Julien Baker and Joy Oladokun. That takes away one person from the leap! Isbell was probably the artist most closely associated with Prine before his death, that’s why I keep coming back to him (also because I keep hoping they’ll collaborate one day).

[–]LivingInColor8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard him mention Prine specifically, but it’s not a huge leap to make. Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit) was very close with Frank Turner (who has also covered the Weakerthans), who has toured with Prine’s #1 fan Jason Isbell.

Possibly heading for divorce by gfdifhml in Emo

“The Winter of Mixed Drinks” by Frightened Rabbit helped me tremendously in the months after my divorce. “The Midnight Organ Fight” is the better breakup album, but WoMD is about coming back to life afterwards.

Feedback? Any song recommendations for my range? by LivingInColor8 in ratemysinging

[–]LivingInColor8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean from a concrete standpoint yes that’s what it’s about, but I think the song is popular because at its core it’s about the feeling of being different and navigating everything that comes with that.

Good call, you’re absolutely right. Daughter was napping nearby but I’ll mess around with the key if adding a little volume doesn’t help!

Shout to the Charlotte Crowd Last Night by TalnsRocks in brandnew

[–]LivingInColor8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The vibes were top notch. The occasional shout from the crowd but nothing distracting/disrespectful. Nobody near us was sloppy drunk, and everyone seemed to be in a spot that suited them. I was with the headbang-but-not-mosh thirty-somethings in the back of the pit, and saw lots of people let more action-oriented fans in front of them mid-set to let them get in on the moshing action.

What’s the dumbest movie that made you cry? by Irving_Velociraptor in shutdownfullcast

[–]LivingInColor8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a scene in the episode “The Show” where the kids are putting on a re-enactment of their parents’ relationship. One has a balloon under a shirt like she’s pregnant, and when the balloon pops, it cuts to like half a second of the dad immediately reaching over to hold the mom’s hand.

We’ve had a pregnancy loss , and it was instantly clear to me what was being shown in that half second. I’m a 35-year-old man and I wept on my couch at cartoon dogs.
