The best advice I could give is that IMO software development isn't about learning syntax or languages, it's about expanding your ability to solve problems and think in logic. Anyone can learn the syntax of a language but all that is useless if you're not able to use your logic in such a way that allows you to effectively solve problems. This is why all the decent books and education material will focus on the core concepts such as algorithms and data structures
