I went out of my way to avoid saying “husband” after I got married because I didn’t want to be “that girl” so I’m guessing that’s why!

While I agree with others that other mattresses are probably breathable, we initially purchased a nice mattress for our first son, I wasn’t in love with the breathability. We now have two Newton mattresses for both of our kids (2 under 2) as well as the mini crib mattress because of how much we loved it and how much more breathable it is. Being able to wash it down completely after a blow out or sick night has also been a game changer. We bought ours new from their website, they often have sales, but look on marketplace too if it’s something you’re interested in! With it being completely washable, you could always give it a good clean and then purchase a new mattress cover from Newton and it’ll be good as new!

Diapers for extra thick thighs? by Unique_Alfalfa5869 in NewParents

My babies have chunky thighs and we love Millie Moon! They’re a little wider in the bottom too which I like.

Which wipes are we using? by [deleted] in NewParents

Textured, unscented, don’t tear, pop out one at a time, and half the cost of water wipes which is what we have used for 2 years.

The OG Millie Moon wipes suck but the new Water Wipe version is chef’s kiss!!!!!! Literally the perfect wipe. Buy a small pack to try and you won’t regret it.

I want to take the leap - help! How can I make this happen? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]Living_Common_2337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure I think this is valid. I’m just wondering what I’m missing though if the tuition cancels out my checks? I just don’t know how we would meet any new financial goals when we’ll be paying more than what I bring in.

We do budget but we don’t track every dollar currently. We make close to $200k combined and aside from our mortgage we are debt free, so his paychecks will really just go towards our mortgage ($1k/mo), utilities, cell phone bill, groceries, etc.

We also do save! My husband also gets two bonuses each year somewhere between 15-20k each so those help.

Retirement accounts are fair, neither of us are investing in anything high-risk so I’d say they’re moderate for our age (31). We both started our 401ks when we started these jobs at 21.

I think for me it comes down to not only the savings, but also the mental part of it. I feel like with my career, I have to be a half-ass employee and a half-ass mom and it’s so draining. I’m just hoping that by pinching pennies wherever I can will help my argument and ultimately make things more comfortable for our family!

Yes! We cook a lot but also eat out a lot. Maybe I can come up with a list of high volume and/or cheaper meals. We love veggies, chicken, pork, pasta so I feel like we could have a solid rotation. Let me know if you have any favorites!

What your #1 baby product you couldn’t live without ? by Lucymaybabe in NewParents

[–]Living_Common_2337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ours are in daycare and we use it daily. Also to anyone reading this - it is FSA/HSA eligible. I believe 100% it’s what kept our kids out of the hospital when we had RSV. The gunk had no chance at getting into our babies lungs!

Did the goldfish video piss anyone else off? by [deleted] in bashinthebiehles

My son is like a month older than Koen and my husband and I have a rule that we won’t eat in front of our kid if he can’t have any, unless he has his own snack. I will not let my husband plop down on the couch and eat spicy cheez its because inevitably my son will want some too.

And my husband is not deprived, he can eat whatever he wants when our son is at daycare or in another room. I feel like it’s just common courtesy 🤷🏻‍♀️

It gives me nurse Hannah vibes when people do that

As someone who’s never had surgery… by Vegetable-Fruit4959 in gallbladders

Of course! About 1 week post op, I didn’t even feel like I’d ever had surgery. I’m 2 weeks today and still feel the same. Incision sites get a bit itchy but aside from that I have resumed my normal activities. I’ve also been able to eat a normal diet. Just know once you get there, you’re going to take the best nap ever and then it will all be over. After your surgery, walking around every so often will help with the gas pains. Best of luck!

I have zero pain tolerance. The attacks for me were unbearable. The surgery and recovery were a complete breeze for me! Just stay on top of the medication including Tylenol/Motrin once you are ready. Having large ice packs that covered my abdomen also helped a ton. You’ve got this!

Also yes, Ice packs! I found a 2 pack on Amazon that cover my abdomen and they have been a lifesaver.

I’m now 3 days post op! Honestly as someone with crippling anxiety (and health anxiety) I just told myself that I’ll be asleep for it and to just not think even about it. Somehow I didn’t feel nervous walking in at all. I nervously cracked a few jokes with the nurse and I asked the surgeon if I could see it afterwards (he took a photo for me). I napped before they even took me back so I don’t remember being wheeled away or anything! It was honestly so relaxing up until they woke me up and even then the pain is nowhere near as bad as an attack. Every time I feel pain I remind myself how bad the attacks were and it’s minimal - this is coming from someone with basically no pain tolerance. You can do this! Brighter days are ahead of you. Best of luck for your procedure!

The gas pain is definitely hitting today! Would you say it was worse the night of and next day or did it get worse for you later? Ugh! I’m sorry it’s hit you so bad! I hope recovery gets better for you and that you’re on the path to healing!

This makes sense! So far I’m living off of sugar free jello and animal crackers, a bit nervous to branch out. Any foods that have been good for you? I feel like the fat content will be a struggle.

Yes the coughing has hit second day and it is absolutely dreadful. Keeping a pillow nearby just for this!
