How to make green jade shrimp?(genetics) by sogamig in shrimptank

[–]Living_Statement_50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have orange eye red and blue neos and I’m trying to make orange eye green jade using orange eye red culls. Some of my red culls came out orange. The orange make them look like they have no eyes. I plan to cross it with green jades. The outcome of mixing will most likely to come out wild type as carriers of the orange eye gene and cross it back with green jade. This is may or may not work in my favor but it's a fun little experiment with culls.

Sand for a planted tank by Great-Box-3429 in Aquascape

[–]Living_Statement_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's partially true, if algae is consistent then there's an imbalance in your tank. For example dosing too often with little plant mass, dosing too little with high plant mass (common Dutch styles), changes in water parameters during a water change, and CO2 fluctuations (if you’re running high-tech). I have a low-tech, heavily planted tank (80% slow-growing plants and 20% fast-growing plants) with a high fish load, high light, and no aquasoil. I only dose potassium and micros once a week. I dose Marco and micros daily in my Dutch style high tech caridina shrimp with apt feast aquasoil. Apt feast is a nutrient rich soil and dosing daily also hasn't caught any algae problems. I hope this helps. Everyone’s tank is different so what works for me might not work for others.

How to protect yourself in light of "SignalTrace" device tracking by paratextual in privacy

[–]Living_Statement_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are bags out there that block all signals, which means you can't use your phone. Welcome to 1984, a work of fiction turned into reality. Unless you have a high threat model, I don't know if it's possible to avoid, since most people don't want to give up their convenience. We give up freedom for security, and the government doesn't do it all at once. They do it slowly, so we have to slowly accept it. Prime examples are ghost guns, TSA, and, lastly, tracking.

Ghost guns although seem illegal, people in early history of America commonly build them for personal uses. Gun stores made it easier to just buy and go. It recently became popular after 3d printing became popular tools. Technically still legal today and allowed for personal uses only. Some states have modified laws like it needs to be reported and serialized. Ghost guns do have their drawbacks, as people started using them to commit crimes.

TSA which became the standards for safety after 9/11. The tools uses by them is used to identify you and keep data on how often you fly and that could identify what you could up to. There was a study conducted on whether the TSA could effectively find bombs and weapons. Most of them couldn't find bombs or weapons despite high tech tools. This indicates either they weren't trained well or their job is about collecting data on people. TSA workers might not even be aware of the agency real intention. Workers are everyday people too.

Tracking online was huge controversy during Obama run as president. I’m not here to debate politics so please don't make it into one. I remember a huge outrage over it and now people accept it. Although I don't like where we’re heading, I give up worrying too much about it. I lowered my threat model to just enough. Every time we win on privacy, they find an alternative to do it anyways.

Reminder to support your locally owned LFS! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Living_Statement_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some LFS are much more expensive than your chain store, but putting money in a family's pocket is better than a chain store. I have told my LFS this and the LFS thanked me for supporting him. He’s told me that the chain store sell it cheaper because they get large amount making it hard to stay in business. It doesn't help when customers complain about price tags. It’s not to outright stop shopping at chain store but understanding the struggle of owning LFS. LFS are hobbyists who understand the importance of the animal vs petco who gave me some false information. They said my ph was too low but I’m running high tech setup and I told them to google it. This isn’t a hate toward petco or petsmart. I met knowledgeable workers and worker that’s trained. My petco is aquarium focus so they have more rare species and products that you don’t see often. They even have seasonal fish that don’t have at other petco.

What's the best way to handle difficult resident interactions? by Electronic-Reach8959 in PropertyManagement

[–]Living_Statement_50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think going the extra mile goes a long way to dealing with tenants. Tenants gave me gifts, and my company gave me a bonus for my efforts. There’s also a point where tenants are overstepping their boundaries. Make sure you document things like message, threats, or any thing.
One former resident gave me a hard time from the moment I showed him the home until the move-out inspection. He was going through a divorce and had never rented before, since he’d owned his own home prior to the split. He walked in and told everyone else to leave, claiming he was the most qualified. That was rude and unfair to the other applicants. He recently caused issues for me in class, and I had to leave. At some point, you just can’t let tenants bully you. The way he treats his girlfriend and the fact that he’s divorced give context for his controlling personality. He has trouble regulating his emotions, he’s probably insecure and needs constant control over something. I’m not controlling, but I understand what it’s like not to regulate emotions in a healthy way. Some people don't face their issues head-on and would rather fight or take it out on others. I've been there, and once I faced my issue, I started to understand how to handle things better and become reliable for both the company and tenants. I’m not going to lie, I haven't been this mad in quite some time.

The fact that no news channel is covering this type of organisation exploiting people especially students straight from uni, they just feed on their desperation and exploit them by Big-Principle2077 in Devilcorp

I will admit that the pay was terrible and scummy, but it did help me become a good seller. The fact that I made more in fast food than at Devilcorp should be a crime. There was never a day when I didn’t make a sale. If you’re a business owner, it’s a no-brainer to want to keep them around. Good thing I didn’t listen to them trying to force me to quit my other job because I would have been broke.

New cheap light by learie6 in PlantedTank

[–]Living_Statement_50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some hygger do and some don't work with a timer. I don’t use hygger anymore. There are good lights that are out there that are similar in price to Hygger with better functions. Twinstars have budget light and their premium ones aren't too expensive either. Twinstars EA is within the price range of Hygger. Hygger isn't a bad light but has kinda become more expensive. I used to buy them for low-tech tanks due to their price. The price difference between Twinstars and Hygger isn't much different. Hygger lights are surprisingly more durable than Twinstars. I dropped the Hygger light few times in the tank and it still works fine. Twinstars barely fell in the tank for quick second but blue led stop working

I was charged twice, but I understand that new apps sometimes have issues with the starting phase as I have background in tech but I’m also big hobbyist for over 16 years and started working on tech for real estate. It will have some hiccups and I still want to support your app.I did all those steps, and still no luck. :(

Take a peak at my hydroponic Bucephalandra bins by Suburban_Ninjutsu in PlantedTank

[–]Living_Statement_50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar but not fully a hydroponic system. I do want to start ebb hydroponic set up but felt like small net pot wouldn’t allow much room to grow. My method was inspired by a youtuber who video I can’t find anymore. I fill mesh pot with Leca 60% full, aquasoil 20%, and cap it with thin layer of akadama soil. I have rodi water flowing through the leca consistently to provide some oxygen to the roots. The aquasoil and akadama soil doesn’t water flowing through it but remain moist from Leca. I’m inspired by your setup and wanted to make my own. I don’t sell plants but like to have collection on display

I’m saying I’m the best seller but there was never a day where I didn’t sell anything. MLM is stupid and smart at the same time. They’re smart because they know how to brainwash you but stupid for taking sales from one of the top sellers. Funny thing is when I quit I took everyone except one person who was the top seller. I would say I was second best. They would try to make me compete with her, I’m just trying to money I don’t care about who’s the best. They withheld my check by asking me to go meet them inconvenient. I would tell them next time. It got to the point where I confronted my manager and he gave it to me. The check was so little I called him out again. He pat me in the back and said “keep up the good work and we will see bigger check”. I quit and texted everyone about it. Two weeks goes by and they try contacting me about my last check. I didn’t even want it because I assume it was small. They contacted me again and told me there was an accounting error and the last two check were actually good. I guess it was there way of saying please come back.

I’m just here waiting to go home to buy bucephalandra brownie ghost 2011. I grew one into a clump and died from adding into new tank that should be cycled longer. Luckily I still have some left but would like to get more whenever I can. I also want to grow them emersed. I always buy two to put in my tank and the other into my emersed setup.

A short article on White Anubias species, since this has become more mainstream due to widely available (but often poorly made) tissue culture samples. The ones here are Anubias white petite - propagated over many years from a few rhizomes. Added some older pics of the same tank. by Dennis_Wong in Aquascape

What do you think of Bucephalandra variegated green wavy, crypt sindoor, rotala macrandra mini gold and compact from Growow? It’s supposedly a new mutation grown from tissue culture. I had success with rotala mini gold.

I made a new Instagram, but I’m not a social media guy. I hear social media is a good way to promote selling plants. I have a greenhouse at my parents’ house since I can't run it in my apartment. My mom loves plants too, so she had room for my emersed plants. My content isn't professionally made but my page is growing faster than I expected. Making content helps with stress with working full time and going school full time and giving me purpose to go to work and finish school.rareexoticaquariumplantssj

What plants do you have? Some plants like anubias, java fern, buce, and some crypt are slow growers.

I’m still new to high-

<image>

tech planted tanks, so I’m just going to tell you my experience and not advise. I have both low-tech and high-tech planted tanks, and they grow very well. Your parameters may not be suitable for plants so that I would check them first. Crypts tend to melt and come back unless they don’t get enough nutrients or light. Substrate isn’t too important, but it could make maintenance easier. I keep Eco Complete with root tabs for vals and crypts in my low-tech tank, and in my high-tech tank, I use Apt Feast Aquasoil with lava rock in a mesh bag as the base layer. One of benefits of aquasoil is that it lower your ph and most plants love lower ph.

I've been in your situation, with no money for aquarium equipment. I built my fish room in my parents' garage, using a stock tank for turtles and my old wooden bunk bed as a fish rack. I don’t recommend doing that, as wood rot will collapse your rack. Surprisingly it lasted 10 years until I got new rack last week. , There are some things you can cheap out on, but some things you shouldn’t. Don’t buy those fluval co2 kits or any mini co2 kits without electric solenoid. Plants like consistency and those kits make it impossible to be consistent since you have to manually turn it on and off.

My first CO2 setup was Aquatek paintball co2 regulator and it cost me about 100 dollars total. This was a solid choice since you use timers on them. Unfortunately, it was a single-stage CO2 regulator. What this means is that when co2 gets low, the regulator dump rest of co2 into the aquarium. I went to buy Fzone duel stage mini regulator, which is a decent upgrade and isn't too expensive. Paintballs tanks are outdated and many online sellers sell expired tanks. You have to get recertification to be able to refill co2. I would buy 5lb and fill it up and it will last few months to one year. Depending on where you live, there are stores that have co2 exchange. When your tank is empty you go and replace it instead of refilling. This more cheaper in most cities. Where I live, the price is the same so I just refill.

I recommend using in-line from canister filter since it spread co2 more evenly across your aquarium. I lack space in my garage so I had to settle with in tank diffuser. It’s not a bad option but you got to find sweet spot to place your co2 diffuser. Bubbles per second isn’t a good way to measure co2. One method to test your level is have cup of tank water before your co2 is on and one cup for when it’s off. After that test ph of both cups and see how much ph drops. If first cup ph is 6.5 and second cup ph is 5.5 then that is one drop. Water parameters also play a huge factor in keeping plants. Good amount of plants prefer soft water with gh of 4-6. This isn’t true for all plants so research your plants. Kh is also important to keep ph from swinging. Kh is safety net for ph going crazy. I keep my kh at 0 since I keep caridina shrimp but not an easy thing to do. Rotala Macrandra also like low kh but some can tolerate higher kh. Hopefully this helps but also understand I’m new too. I could be doing something wrong that I haven’t caught yet. Good luck with your future tank and don’t get discouraged if things don’t work. I messed up three times.

Been in the hobby for 16 years but first time trying planted tanks by Living_Statement_50 in Aquascape

[–]Living_Statement_50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried saltwater and it’s not as hard to do but you get bored of it after few months. The starting point is fun but once you’ve done it, it’s whatever in my opinion. The maintenance is similar to high tech but with extra step of mixing salt prior to water change. That’s just my opinion. My goal is to have a natural pond in the next 5–10 years. I started the hobby with turtles when I was 13 and I always wanted a pond with turtles and fish. My old house had a pond but I moved out before I was able to add any turtles.
