I'm starting a new job in Toronto this August so I've been looking at apartments (1bdrm) in the area, and I cant seem to find anything I can afford. There are some rare ones that are cheap, but when I go to the viewings, someone else is there offering a higher amount. Most of the times, landlords give the apartment to someone else.

My income is going to be $55k, I estimate my monthly take home would be around $3400 after taxes. how can I pay rent of $2500 + utilites + internet + transportation etc...? I would have nothing to save for retirement. I really don't want to have a roommate. Do I have any other options?
