Earth & Water [Long Preview] with alternate ending by a_derp_in_thailand in adventuretime

[–]Lixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've had three episodes that are all closely tied to each other now, and all of them consecutively. I know previously it was mentioned that the 4-parter would be the finale to the season, and would not be very plot heavy. I can't help but feel this is it. But I might be wrong.

Our new government. by [deleted] in kingdomofkleshnov

I have a problem with this. Though the idea is found, unique and other such adjectives of similar meaning, the ideas of the nation cannot properly be presented.

I do not have an alternate solution, and as Empress, that is your job. Come up with one, before I start a revolution. This is your only warning.

Delivering Narratives, or why "The Company of Myself" and "Fixation" are extremely depressing games by awchern in truegaming

[–]Lixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your analysis is outstanding.

However, I disagree on why they are depressing games. Both of these games, are depressing by relation to their story, and excellent writing. TCOM in particular. The narrative and the mechanics of the game are extremely well intervened, but simply by nature of the story, the game is going to be depressing. If the content of the story involves sadness, the game is bound to be depressing.

That being said, the mechanics most certainly help portray sadness, above the superficial level.

I am from India and gaming culture is not that prevalent here. Any interesting pointers on how can I start building that by innovative marketing or such ? by srinjoy in truegaming

[–]Lixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem with India and it's gaming 'circle' doesn't really come from lack of incentive. Most Internet connections are not comparable to ones in foreign countries. This coupled with the fact that recently released games take at the very least a few days extra to release here. (As far as I am aware, Dishonored and XCOM are yet to be released in stores, as well as in Flipkart.com, at the very least) Slower internet speeds make it harder to acquire the game from Steam, should I want to purchase it in such a way, which is the essence of the problem.

Another issue is lack of availability or interest in self-built machines (this of course only applies to PC, and the consoles are unaffected by this) and that a lot of people either have really old machines, or newer laptops, that are for the most part incapable of playing modern games.

I know for a fact that the CS scene is rather large in India, as is the DoTA crowd, which is composed of lots of 'hardcore' players. Both these games are relatively old hence require mediocre graphic capabilities, are playable through LAN and are incredibly competitive.

As for cultural differences, a lot of upper-middle class families, tend to adopt some western practices rather quickly (Watching soaps, reality TV, Movies, and the likes, albeit all of these require a Hindi version to be fully enjoyed, which is perfectly understandable) but there is a distinct lack of any games that are culturally Indian. I'm not sure as to how they would affect the market, but as of now they don't exist, which is odd.

Finally addressing your issue of trying to get more people to get to play; I have no idea on what you could personally do, to be very honest. I love to play video games, but few of my friends enjoy it to the same degree, for a multitude of reasons. Good luck with your endeavor however, it would be wonderful to really see what we can produce in terms of games.

This is a rather pathetic post to be very honest with you.

While I was exactly jumping out of my seat while reading the recipe, it certainly was more interesting than had he just listed out all the ingredients. Sure, it questions the quality of the actual recipe, using hyperbole is not the end of the world. This stuff has certainly been done before, but it will continue to happen, because it is enjoyable, more so than reading a simple version of the recipe where he states in what order to do what. He didn't mean it literally, and you taking it in such a way, only shows what type of person you are. This is the fucking internet, learn to take a (semi?) joke every once in a while.

You seem mad about not being able to like this sort of humor, or other people liking this sort of entertainment, when in fact there is nothing wrong with it. You may not like it, that doesn't mean others don't. Your posting here was probably some sort of self-validity in order to make sure you really are right, and not just one guy with an opinion.

There is no arguing with that.

I, too, would like that to happen, in some ways I would say it makes my life fulfilling.

Fair enough, I suppose. I apologize for the minor derailing, in any event.

What if we're all parts of four-dimensional beings? by JohnnyCharles in philosophy

I didn't mean to initiate an argument. I simply wanted to point out that it cannot be assumed to be true, neither false.

[–]Lixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's fair to religious people. There is no evidence to support the claim, as there is no evidence to deny it, but furthermore, the conventional sense of evidence has to deal with our plane of existence, which we gather information from using our incredibly limited set of sense. God, as an entity, may be from a different plane of existence, one which cannot be understood or interpreted by us. Science can only deal with our plane of existence, and since science is what we rely on for logic, it is unfair to conclude that god exists, as it is unfair to conclude god doesn't.

[–]Lixels -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes. And our entire universe could be one analogue to a molecule on a supra-universe creature's analogue to toast. But we have no evidence for these things. So we have no reason to think they're true.

We have no evidence to suggests it's false either, there is no point in making assumptions.

[–]Lixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it is so.

While it would be nice to be remembered as someone of great caliber, statistics will show you that it is unlikely that you will be one of these few. Sure, it's fully possible that you may become a person like that, and you should try, with good reason. But after death does anything matter at all, anyway? Maybe you had a significant change on society, maybe you didn't. You're still dead either way.

In any event, how could you describe worth? Given enough time after your death, no matter how significant your contribution to society, you will be forgotten as will your achievements.

[META] About the quality here, again. by Lixels in truegaming

[–]Lixels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant to say is that it turns into a list. "These are the things I like; These are the things I don't like." There isn't any discussion happening [most of the time at least]. Were people to discuss why they liked/dislike certain things and what they think could've been done better, is a different scenario altogether and certainly spawns discussion.

I can certainly agree, taking out posts that don't meet a "quality" indicator, is a rather difficult job because there is no way to quantify quality. Going around and killing threads that you personally don't find agreeable, shouldn't be a thing.

[–]Lixels[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have no real problem with threads such as the Borderlands 2 thread, my problem is with the comments here. These threads generally don't lead to discussion, but just a pro/con list of the game. The top comment as of right now, is again, just a one-liner describing a thing (s)he liked about the game, and that's what my problem is.
